An Expedition to IKEA Leads to Expeditious Expediting Of EXPEDIT

Advantages: Cavernous, easy to build (mostly). Neat styling and apparently well made
Disadvantages: Bloody heavy & unlikely to survive taking apart (after all who keeps the instructions?)

Ikea expedit - surprisingly good!

Advantages: easy to build
Disadvantages: heavy

...the place for about an hour before we had taken it all in. All the furniture looked great, and the furnishings were really funky too! We had lots of little items in our basket, but as yet had not decided on the bookcase. So we went to the restaurant to decide. We qued for food, and despite the que, we were served very quickly. The cashier told me to grab a loyalty card from beside (Ikea family card), which got us money off the food, and free coffee. A cooked breakfast for me and my wife, and two coffees for £1.98!! We ate, and drank and decided on the bookcase. We chose the expedit bookcase, which was £106. very reasonable, as the thing was basically a 6 foot long, 6 foot high cube of shelves. It looked sturdy,and stylish. So, we picked it up in the self service lobby, and paid for it, along with our other things. I was happy with the level...

I purchased this particular model because it had a Cycling Plus best buy, and had positive reviews elsewhere. I have a daily 22 mile commute, and need to carry quite a bit of kit, including shower stuff and a change of clothes - my walking rucksack was starting to get rather heavy. The rack comes in silver or black - I bought the black one. The Expedition is a heavy-duty rack, weighing in at 900g with a carrying capacity of 30kg, and comes with a handy bracket for mounting a rear light. Advantages: Great destinations, experience of a lifetime, registered charity so not profiting from you, just go for it!
Disadvantages: Ummm.... cost might put people off, although it's pretty standard for this kind of thing it does seem a lot of money at first. You can raise it though!

...I didn't actually go on a gap year expedition, although I have heard they are good. I went on one of their 6 week summer expeditions, to the Tien Shan mountains in Kyrghyzstan, in summer 99. The expedition was fairly typical of the summer ones, with a little over a week spent on a science project, some time doing glacier training, ice climbing etc. and then a two week trek phase. The different types of science work varies with the particular expedition, but often includes ecology-related projects, surveying, geology, glaciology etc. I did a geology project and really enjoyed it. Overall however I think the quality of the science done varies quite a bit, beware if that is your main reason for going, the expeditions are primarily set up for the adventure type stuff. ...My girlfriend works in a florist’s and I regularly get roped in to help out with the deliveries whenever I’m available. The van they have for the task is a red, T registration Vauxhall Combo van. So because of my experience I have decided to write an opinion on it, and also I haven’t written one on a car for a while. The cab is based on the ever-popular Corsa that unfortunately is immediately apparent as soon as you see them. As with many small vans on the market at the moment the van looks like it has had a square metal box bolted onto the back of it, much like the Fiesta based Courier. The Combo is powered by the 1.9 Vauxhall diesel engine, although some of the earlier models may have the Isuzu power plant under the bonnet. Advantages: Very versatile, easy to use, space saving
Disadvantages: not the best playback quality I've seen

...old video tape, and it was also very easy to label each newly recorded session on the DVD. The newly recorded DVD can be played back straight away to check that all is OK and any mistakes are easily deleted - I was using standard DVD -R disks so the deleted recordings still take up space on the DVD even though they will not be played back, to properly delete recordings and utilise the space freed up I would have to use DVD-RW disks. To make my new DVD playable on other players (including my PC) the DVD had to be finalised, this is a simple menu option which does not take very long but completes the dubbing process. I have to say that I am very pleased with my new combo VCR/DVD - it does everything I wanted it to do and I thought that the price I paid for it was reasonable. It takes up less space than the two machines it replaced...

I suppose no-one ever has enough, but there comes a point when I get very tired of seeing toys all over the lounge floor, bursting through boxes and spilling onto clear space. I have been looking around for a suitable solution for quite a while, and whilst looking on the IKEA website last week I realised I could make use of the expedit range of shelving IKEA sell in more ways than one. The shelving comes in a few different sizes and colours. You can buy a set of shelves that are square in shape at approx 70 x 70 cm. This is the smallest they sell and contains four inner square slots. A range of other sizes are available to include eight inner slots, sixteen inner slots and twenty inner slots.
