I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

...Timothy Taylor's Landlord is the latest Bitter that I have sampled in my journey to discover the World of Real Ales. It is now back on sale in my local Pub after a brief absence so when I fancied sampling something a little bit different I thought that it was about time that I gave it a try.
THE BACKGROUND
Timothy Taylor is brewed in Keighley in West Yorkshire and has been brewed there since 1858. Even today it is still a family owned business and in fact it is the largest remaining independent Brewery in West Yorkshire.
Timothy Taylor put part of the success of their Beers down to the fact that there their Ales are still brewed using traditional brewing methods, and Spring Water that comes straight out of the Pennines.

IN THE PUB WITH MADONNA!

...Many moons ago I started drinking Real Ale. The main reason for this was that I wanted a beer that actually tasted of something! I also wanted to know what was in the beer I was drinking and to support the Independent breweries (the bloke on the Real Ale Society stall at Fresher?s week at Uni was pretty hot too).
That was back in 1990 and I have sampled a few good and bad beers since then. Many beers (and breweries) have come and gone and some have become classic drinks that you would think have been going forever. One such beer is Timothy Taylor Landlord.

...When I was down in London the other week, I was mostly drinking Youngs and/or Fullers ales. Local is best, I always think. One evening though, the Youngs was getting to the end of the barrel and was certainly past its best. Luckily, its next door neighbour was the usually pretty reliable Timothy Taylor's Landlord. So in my best Anglified accent, I ordered one imperial pint of the stuff for the not unreasonable price (by London standards) of £2.40.
Timothy Taylor started brewing in Keighley, West Yorks, way back in 1858 using spring water straight from the Pennines (they still do). The brewery has remained in the Taylor family until the present day and is in fact the last independent brewery of its type left in West Yorkshire.

Beware of the Black hole
Advantages: A fast paced and entertaining read
Disadvantages: Will not appeal to non science fiction fans
...of the story but are not overwhelming. It is very easy to add an overwhelming type of science into a story. This has been resisted here. The science has to be understandable and form an integral part of the story. Such stories can be very entertaining, but these are more about how people will react in rather unusual situations.
The book is written in the third person style, and follows several leads till the conclusion where all parts come together.
This book was published in Hardcover in 2001.

Having suffered with sleeping problems for the past few years, I frequently buy/borrow audio books to help take my mind of things when I'm lying there unable to sleep in the middle of the night. I find audio books very relaxing and am usually able to get myself back off to sleep by listening to a side or two. On the whole, I prefer books read by one reader rather than dramatisations, but on this occasion, there was no alternative available. It is even difficult to get hold of the original books on which the dramatisations were based. Paul Temple dramatisations were played on the BBC between 1938 and 1969, with Peter Coke in the role of the amateur detective, Paul Temple (fond of saying By Timothy!) and Marjorie Westbury in the role of his wife, Steve.
