Tintin and Snowy make the best team

Advantages: Great entertainment
Disadvantages: None

...This is without doubt, the greatest children and adult's comic strips ever made. Tintin is a comic series created and developed in 1929 by Hergé. It centers upon the life and adventures of a young reporter Tintin and his dog Snowy. Other characters include his close friends The Captain Haddock and the forgetful Professor Calculus. The original publication language has been in French but as it gained popularity throughout the world, Tintin comics have been translated into over fifty languages, including English. The trademarks of these comic strips are the mysteries and adventures against a backdrop of humorous elements characters. In addition, it has also been widely acclaimed for Hergé's detailed drawing and extremely expressive facial elements. The series which make up the whole Tintin Comic Strips are: * TINTIN IN THE LAND...

BLISTERING BARNACLES! All Tintin's adventures?!

Advantages: All the gripping Tintin cartoons in one smashing box
Disadvantages: The theme tune will get stuck in your head

...'s presented in a set of 10 DVDs all in slimline cases with a Tintin biography booklet bound in a charming outer case. The outer case is made of sturdy cardboard and depicts Tintin running on the front and wraps round the spine to reveal Snowy running along behind on the rear of the cover. Each DVD contains 2 of Tintin's adventures with the exception of the last one, which contains 3. The DVD itself is beautifully laid out with a user friendly menu system. Each episode is divided into 4 chapters, which gives you the option of skipping the introductory music (which can be a little tiresome if you watch more than about 2 episodes). The slimline cases each have a cover depicting the original comic book cover, one on each side of the case. Inside the cover is a still from each episode and a brief blurb, which is very handy. The cartoons themselves...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Billions of Blue Blistering Barnacles!

Advantages: Harmless fun in an exciting adventure
Disadvantages: Stories can be a bit repetitive

...In my younger days I had a fascination with Tintin and as a consequence bought most of the Tintin books, and when I re-read my Asterix books recently, I also dipped into a few of the Tintin books too, just for nostalgia's sake of course! To set the scene Tintin is a young Belgian reporter and he has a faithful companion of the canine variety called Snowy (or Milou in French, Terry in Danish, etc). Tintin is never scared of an adventure and he is firmly convinced in fighting for what he knows to be right and no stone will be left unturned in this battle against the world of the criminal. Each story tends to be similar - Tintin is drawn into an adventure, and despite several near death escapes, he manages to resolve the mystery and get the criminals behind bars, often with the help (or sometimes despite the help) of his faithful...

LAD WITH PURE HEART

Advantages: ---
Disadvantages: ----

...“ The lad who has got pure heart…” When I was 7 years old, as a birthday present, my dad give me the best gift of life, a set of Tintin Books, which till date, I treasure it like anything. I don’t even know how many times I must have read this book. Its one of the most cherished Cartoon character in the history of mankind. I am sharing my nostalgia of this book with you guys in my review. Let history speak for itself… The person who gave birth to Tintin character was born in Etterbeek on May 22, 1907(district of urban Brussels) as REMI Georges. The first adventure of Tintin, who is characterised as a reporter appeared in 1929 in a children’s supplement to a Belgian daily newspaper, Le Vingtième Siècle. 1930, Tintin got his complete full fledged book and since than this small but sharp character...

Be prepared for hair-rising peril!

Advantages: Fantastic artwork; thrilling plot; humour
Disadvantages: The mystery is not resolved until the sequel

...I have adored Tintin since I was a small child. Lengthy stories packed with adventure, mystery, exotic locations and humour - what more could any escapist ask for? The Seven Crystal Balls is the thirteenth adventure in Belgian artist Hergé's The Adventures of Tintin and along with The Secret of the Unicorn, slots nicely into first place on my favourites list. The book is followed by sequel Prisoners of the Sun. The story begins as Tintin reads about the return of intrepid expeditioners from the Andes after discovering the tomb of mummified Inca Rascar Capac. The exploration was a success - the mummy and many of its burial treasures have been brought back home for display. However, we soon learn of a curse that seems to be inflicting the expeditioners - those affected have consistently been discovered comatose with no...

Viva Los Picaros, Viva Alcazar, Down with Tapioca!

Advantages: Superb art, pacey story, inane characters
Disadvantages: Just not long enough! Viva viva mes amigos!

...Just get this! Superb drawings, gr8 colours, fabulously inane plot, characters and dialogue combine to make the most exciting moderistic Tintin! I read this when it first arrived in UK 30 years ago when I was 6. I had already read all the other available Tintins by then. I adore General Alcazar and have been plotting schemes for the demise of Mrs Alcazar for 3 decades now! VIVA la Carnival, viva la jolly follies! Down with Tapioca, viva los dopicos! Viva Loch Lomond, viva les Arambayas! Set in steamy South America, can Tintin and Haddock displace Tapioca and place Alcazar on his 'rightful' throne?! What is Castafiore doing here tipping pans of pasta over people's heads? And Colonel Sponjz: how did he escape justice behind Herge's Tin Curtain? Mind you don't go swimming: if the anaconda doesn't get you, the caymen will finish...

FREE DVDS

Advantages: up to date dvds, four weeks free hire with 3 dvds at a time,
Disadvantages: see review

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. Firstly, you get FOUR whole weeks free rental, which equates to at double the length of time most...
