faulty compressor
Review of Bernstein 02 800950 Fridges by  hi-phy

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: expensive repairs

...I bought this fridge as part of a fitted kitchen from B & Q. Within the first year it had broken down and the compressor was replaced under the terms of the guarantee.Just over a year later, the replacement compressor also packed in, and I am now faced with a repair bill of £300. I also had to pay a call out charge of £46 just to find out that the compressor was broken. The compressor has the model number: GD36AA and is made by Electrolux, so it may be fitted to other manufacturers' fridges. Anyone thinking of buying a kitchen from B & Q should consider taking the extended guarantee on the appliances. I should mention that the freezer has given no trouble so far.... Read review

DOD compressor is not a DUD
Review of DOD FX82 by  robm

Advantages: Good sound, absoloute bargain
Disadvantages: dodgy build

...The DOD FX82 is a single stomp box bass compressor. for those of you who do not really know what a compressor does, it cuts the peaks in the volume and boosts the troughs. this gives a more constant sound and can make you bass lines tighter. also the fact that it boosts the low volumes means you can get excellent sustain as the signal of the bass decays, the pedal keeps it at the same volume. the first feature of the pedal is the level knob. this affects the output volums of the pedal. this is just a standard feature of most effect peals. then theres the release control. this is used to control the amount of time the compression holds on for. when a loud note is struck the compressionb kicks in straight away and holds on for a while before it releases. the higher the release is set the longer it holds on for... Golden Sun = Golden Game
Review of Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age (GBA) by  JcMullaney

Advantages: Nearly -Everything-
Disadvantages: Random battles and Sounds can get annoying, also long talk scenes.

...Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA) was a long awaited sequel to the smashing success that boosted standards for all handheld RPGs, Golden Sun. Golden Sun TLA is set after Golden Sun 1 (in Weyard), apart from you control Felix, seeing what happens after the splitting of Venus Lighthouse. Eventually later ingame you might up with Isaac's crew and use them for battles and extra Djiins. [Backround Information] In Golden Sun, Isaac and friends set off to stop Satouros and Menardi from lighting all four elemental lighthouses, or the world will end. They manage to light 2 of the lighthoues but end up getting killed. The lit Venus lighthouse causes and island (where Gemma, Sheeba, Felix, Krade and Alex just so happen to be) to drift away onto another continent. Golden Sun TLA follows Felix's story of lighting the lighthouses. [Characters... Read review

Saving Intern Bailey
Review of whatis.com by  Morgenhund

Advantages: explains technobabble in simple terms
Disadvantages: doesn't contain the acronym NORWICH ;-)

...that seem to be oh-so-prevalent in the tech sectors, where a simple acronym has some incredibly high-filluting value, and basically means nothing particular impressive. The site is also incredibly easy to use, with a IT terminology search and with an alphabetical listing of terms. Nearly all definitions are spot on and often there are examples of typical services/applications of various technologies. There are currently over 3000 different terms in the database, and over 12,000 cross-linking references. All this might sound not to be of much use to someone who has only a very passive interest in technology, but you’ll find that sooner or later you’ll find a so-called “Killer TLA” – a TLA – sorry Three Lettered Abbreviation that you really want to know the meaning of. Whatis.com will undoubtedly be your... Read review

How to bonk your boss and go home early
Review of Everything that starts with O ... by  MandyMinx

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...people have this desire all year round but when you get it in February you get a special TLA to go with it and the chance of a sick note from your psychiatrist. The opposite of SAD is MAD (Midsummer Affective Disorder) where people get a little bit of sun on their head and decide to cavort naked round the office wearing nothing but a strategically positioned internal memo. By far and away the most dangerous affliction in the office is the CLM (Career Limiting Move). This is where you do something so badly misjudged that your career, pay packet and mental health are all abruptly terminated. An example of this would be if you made a formal complaint about sick office syndrome to the Managing Director when you worked in the corporate headquarters of BUPA. Key learnings: Sick leave shortens your working life No-one's ever too weak... Read review

This really is one of the bigguns!
Review of Maxtor MaXLine Plus II 200 GB by  chris_ah1

Advantages: Fast, huge capacity, reliable, well built, quiet, good compromise between speed and price
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive, not the biggest or fastest

...to work as the cache is used for the most often accessed files. The bigger, the better. This 200GB Maxline Plus II has a very high density of storage -more data fits on the disk per inch of magnetic medium inside. This will hopefully help the drive to attain high levels of performance since more data can be read per spin. ***Edit.: One feature I should probably emphasise is the fact that this drive uses fluid dynamic bearings. I understand that this might be knew to some people and just another piece of jargon which they are bombarded with by marketing, but it is important. It simply means that the bearings for the spindles have a special type of seating in the drive. A fluid dynamic bearing (FDB in TLA marketing speak), is a thin layer of oil or other lubricant injected between the shaft and sleeve of a spindle. The bearing uses... Read review

Contax G2 by Mark Packer
Review of Contax G2 by  markapacker

Advantages: Lenses, Build, Feel
Disadvantages: Viewfinder, Flash, Auto focus, noise

...I was excited about this camera. I wanted a light system that I could take anywere and I had read many good things about the lenses and build quality. I sold by Nikon N90s and most of my lenses to buy the G2 with 45mm and flash. I also purchased the 28mm and the 90mm and got a $700 rebate from Contax. Great deal! I wanted to love this camera- I really did. And there was much to love- superb lenses. fantistic build, great feel. But after using it for about two years, there were two things I could not get used to. The viewfinder was terrible- small and dark. I expected more for a camera the size of the G2- perhaps the view similar to a Leica M. It was more like the view that a point and shoot would have. The second problem was the flash. I was used to the wonerful fill flash Nikon produces, so the limits of the TLA 200 were... Read review
