To the Lighthouse
Advantages: ~
Disadvantages: ~
...Lighthouse.
A little context is probably needed at this point, at least for those who have never heard of Southwold. Nestling on what is almost an island on the north Suffolk coast, bounded by the river Blyth, the sea and Buss Creek, with only one road in and one road out Southwold is one of those towns that has managed to retain its charm without becoming "twee". Several devastating fires throughout its history have resulted in its most recent rebuilding - oh three or so hundred years ago - being based on a plan to provide natural fire-breaks. Wide streets. Open greens. The place wears its age with the comfort of wealth. Many of the houses are grand. Even the old surviving fisher cottages have clearly moved up-market, yet somehow without the pretentiousness that is evident elsewhere. The 'Sailors Reading Room' which so entranced W G...

TO THE LIGHTHOUSE
Advantages: The best of modern design in a fantastically restructured building.
Disadvantages: 'Vertiginous' ascents!
...Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a name familiar to most people these days and few can be unfamiliar with the geometric designs and stylised flowers which have become his ‘trademarks’.
Glasgow’s ‘Lighthouse’ is a tribute to the genius of Mackintosh occupying, as it does, the old Glasgow Herald buildings which were Mackintosh’s first big project as an architect. Begun in 1895 as a re-structuring of the old buildings, the Lighthouse displays heavy influence from the young Mackintosh, although he was not the sole architect concerned.
As the newspaper was printed in the building, there was considerable risk of fire and previous fires which had spread to neighbouring buildings, had been responsible for the need to restructure. In order to allay fears of fire, a tall water tower was built and it is...

To The Lighthouse
Advantages: Beautifully written, good messages about confronting fears.
Disadvantages: Rather scary and a little bit anachronistic.
...Marianne is bored. She is recuperating from a nasty illness and her doctor has prescribed a lengthy period of bed rest. Her usually sunny disposition has disappeared and in its place has come boredom, irritability, frustration and that dreadfully debilitating kind of tiredness that comes from having done absolutely nothing for days and days and days and days and endless days.
As a last resort to amuse her depressed daughter, Marianne's mother fetches her trinket box for Marianne to sort through and play with. Inside it, Marianne finds a pencil she cannot remember ever seeing before. It is an ordinary looking pencil; stubby, and in need of sharpening, but something about it attracts Marianne and she takes and begins to draw. She draws a house, a garden, a boy at the window. That night, Marianne has the most remarkable dream. In it...

...Souter lighthouse
With the Easter holidays in full flow, I seemed to spend my time having a look to see which places were holding events which appeal to children.
Being a member of the national Trust, I often visit places in their "portfolio", so saving admission costs. It's worth checking out www.nationaltrust.org for more information.
Souter Lighthouse is a place I have passed on many occasions and never visited, but with an Easter Egg hunt going on, it seemed a good choice.
~~~~Bit of History~~~~
We learnt lots of things whilst at the top of the lighthouse, and one of the "stories" is that the lighthouse was built in direct response to the fact that in the 1860s, 20 boats hit the rocks. At that time, lots of ships were transporting coal, and this was a hazardous stretch of the coastline; Souter lighthouse was the answer...
Familiar Lighthouse Family
Advantages: All their best songs
Disadvantages: Maybe to esygoing for some
...The Lighthouse family are a soul duo from up north who recorded their first single, "Lifted" in 1995. The duo consists of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu (Who I believe recently launched a solo career) and keyboard player Paul Tucker who formed in Newcastle. Their debut album was entitled "Ocean Drive" and was also released in 1995. It was a couple of years later that the duo released their second album "Postcards from Heaven."
As suggested by the CD's title, Lighthouse Family "Greatest Hits" is a compilation which was released in 2002 of the Lighthouse Family's most memorable tracks. I would just like to point out that I'm almost 100% sure you'd recognise at least one track from this reasonably well known group.
I think their style of music is best described as easy-listening soul with a truly mellow vibe. Tracks such as "High...
Moments of Being
Advantages: An interesting study of psychology and art.
Disadvantages: Takes some perseverance, and not the most riveting plot.
...process of Leopold Bloom's adulterous wife as she drifts off to sleep, masturbates, and comes onto her period. It's a highly creative and revealing insight into a woman's mind that is, of course, written by a man. 'To the Lighthouse' is similarly a celebration of the feminine against male oppression, as well as a very effective and chilling observation of the generation gap carved by the First World War, particularly in the changing attitudes of women.
Woolf's novel is divided into three uneven sections all taking place on the Isle of Skye, the favoured holiday destination for the Ramsays and their middle-class friends, over a period of ten years. The author's own preferred analysis of the structure was to imagine an 'H' shape, with the first part of the novel (occurring in 1910) linked to the third (in 1920) by the smaller and radically...
A story in thoughts
Advantages: Beautifully written
Disadvantages: Not an easy read
...I had really very few expectations when I began this book. I read Mrs Dalloway some time ago, but couldn't really remember what her writing style was like, except that it wasn't particularly straightforward. I chose to read To the Lighthouse simply because I have recently been to the Isle of Skye and the story described in this book is based on Skye. However, if I hadn't read this on the back cover, I would not have known where the book was set - apart from the fact that it was set on an island. I was certainly not expecting the writing style that I was faced with and was tempted to put it down after just a few pages. However, I persevered and I am glad that I did so. I have some misgivings about this book, but on the whole, it is gently and sympathetically written and kept my interest until the end.
The story
This probably sounds...
To view a serial killer with a head fetish!!
Advantages: British made, Location. Bloody!!
Disadvantages: predictable story line! Bloody!!
...and comes are with plans to takedown Leo Rock.
Rachel Shelley Play?s as Dr. Kirsty McCloud She is on board the ship to check the Prisoners well being. She is also one of the main characters that you will hear scream a lot and running a lot from Leo Rock.
Christopher Adamson plays as Leo Rook the mass murder, who escaped from the ship in a small boat. Christopher plays the killer quite well and looks the part when you first see him kill the men in the lighthouse by beheading them. The murders are quite gruesome and there is a lot of blood.
The rest of the characters you see get killed are below they all play the part of being quite stiff when they see Leo Rook and then being killed. They don't really act very well and are there just to be killed.
Paul Brooke .... Captain Campbell
Don Warrington .... Prison Officer Ian Goslet...
They get me through the day - Lighthouse family
Advantages: A good soulful and melodic album from the duo
Disadvantages: There no longer going
...This album was relased back in the 2002 but still sounds as good it did then. For me this album offered a more melodic and upbeat sounding Lighthouse family.
I dont think there is one song that I dont like on this album.The whole album is just truly enjoyabel to listen to. For me though you have to be in the mood to listen to lighthouse family,as I think you cant just listen to one track, as all there songs take you through a wide range of moods and feelings.
My favourite song on the album has to be run though,I love the music used on this track,and even though there arent many lyrics/vocals I still think this song is catchy and just that little bit different for lighthouse family.
The tracklisting for the album is:
1. Run
2. Happy
3. (I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be) Free/One
4. End Of The Sky
5. Life's A Dream...
Lighthouse Family Fun
Advantages: easy listening,lovely lyrics.I like the words to the songs and pictures in the booklet
Disadvantages: none
...TOTAL RE-WRITE
The Lighthouse Family duo's new album 'Whatever Gets You Through the Day' should be in everyone's home as it is a wonderful new pop album. New to us but they have actually been around since 1995 which is when Paul Tucker left posters around Newcastle asking for a lead singer. Tunde Baiyewu who had just qualified with a degree in accounting answered the ad and the rest is history. Their first single Ocean Drive did enter the charts but the Newcastle lads didn't do all that well. It did so bad that it was withdrawn. Yet when Lighthouse Family re-released their single 'Lifted', it climbed to the top 5.
I do not know how I would describe the style of their music. I suppose it would have to be a mixture of African and European. It really is distinct almost like Gospel music but not quite, there is also a soulful...
