...As every parent knows, the stage of weaning a baby from a milk diet onto solid foods can be a very daunting experience. I had heard the name 'Annabel Karmel' many times in reference to weaning/recipe books & was strongly advised to invest in one of her many publications. I opted for the 'Baby & Toddler Meal Planner'. This best selling hardback book has been around for over 20 years now, but has been recently updated & has a clean, modern feel to it, along with bright colourful illustrations. The book is split into several chapters: Chapter 1 - 'The best first foods for your baby' talks about general nutrition for babies, allergies & other helpful information such as storage of baby foods. Gina Ford, Contented Toddler: Military style child rearing

Advantages: Some useful points (I would say suggestions but Gina doesn't suggest anything!)
Disadvantages: Absolutely uncompromising, Gina believes there is only one right way and that's hers

We start off in The Contented Baby Book, I picked this up off the shelf at a friends house when my baby was 6 weeks old, flicked to the page with the routine for his age group and started reading. ...I was given this book way back in 1990, when my eldest son was just leaving babyhood. ...This man is a genius is all I have to say - how somebody can so accuratly describe your toddler is amazing. Let me give you a bit of history - as I by no means have a bold toddler. I am the proud mother of a beautiful 2 year old girl - she is wonderful. She is very clever and bright - and just gorgeous. However like every toddler in the world she is prone to tantrums - mainly when she doesnt get her own way or most recently just for no reason at all. These tantrums are progressivly getting worse and she now talks 60% of the time with a whinge in her voice for no reason. So clearly whatever we were doing wasnt right. So I took a step back to assess the situation and noticed that both me and my partner have to different ways of parenting - our poor child is confused what applies today with Mummy is not the same as the next day...

Toddlers - Expect the unexpected!!!!

Advantages: Clearly laid out, lots of information.
Disadvantages: Size, can't add details for further child/ren.

...Toddler Taming, is there such a thing? Well according to Dr Christopher Green who wtote this book there is. My Health Visitor recommended this book to me when I asked her advice about my unruely toddler. I have read it and re-read it so many times and found it a great book. It is a softback book and is quite a handy size. It has a cute cartoon of a toddler on the front and has bright red lettering saying Toddler Taming so you can't miss it. I actually bought my copy from WHSmiths but is available in most book stores and is priced at £9.99 and it is the best £9.99 i have ever spent. Dr Christopher Green who wrote the book is a paediatric doctor from Australia. Now I can hear you saying " What does someone on the other side of the world know about my toddler? An absolutely cracking toddler bed.

Advantages: Will last for years. Not too expensive. Easy to assemble.
Disadvantages: Low to ground - not good for your back!

...I bought this bed for my son about six months ago after searching high and low for a bed that would grow with him but can still have to safety rails on the sides. I didn't like any of the other beds I saw for various reasons but this one I knew was right straight away. The bed is made of thick wood and looks lovely when it is put together. It looks a lot more sturdy than some of the other toddler beds on the market at the moment. In toddler mode the bed has a small head board and foot board whick can be folded down later to make a larger bed. The advantage of this to me is that the ends have extra bits of matress in them which makes them soft on wriggly toddler heads. I bought the guide rails which come separately but were shown on the demo bed in ikea. To go the full length of the bed you need two and one has to be sawn in...

...I purchased this book when my son was 8 months old and I was running out of ideas of what meals to give him.I have never liked feeding commercial baby foods except in an emergency -I like to use really good quality produce and home cooked food is so much cheaper! I purchased the book on the internet from boots on the recommendation of a friend,it cost 10.99-below the recommended price of 12.99.This was 10 months ago and I have used the book several times a week since.
