Tom Tom ? - Ding Dong ! . .
Review of TomTom ONE V3 Local by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: Just Brilliant.
Disadvantages: Price, risk of theft, otherwise none.
...lighter socket of your vehicle.
The new style mounting kit, is very secure, and a lot smaller, although still a little obvious for my liking. These are becoming an easy target for thieves. In my car, I have fashioned a small bracket, fitted beneath the instruments, very easy for the driver to see, but not the would be thief. Also, when I leave the vehicle, I simply slip the unit into my pocket, it is small enough, even in it's case.
TomTom do recommend that you don't leave the mounting kit fixed to the windscreen overnight, as this may lose suction, I will agree with them, although more for security reasons.
I use my TomTom in different vehicles, including trucks, and find that battery life is ample, seeing as you can leave it on charge all the time, apart from perhaps when you need to use the cigarette lighter socket for some other...

TomTom To the Rescue
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
.... It is basically like having a brilliant navigator sitting next to you!
The TomTom I got costs around £180 and only has the UK and Ireland maps so if you were to want to use it abroad then you would need to either buy a different model or buy the maps from the shop although I'm not sure how much it would cost. It does obviously have other features which I will come onto a bit later on. Inside the box is the TomTom, a car charger, installation CD, manual, cradle and window mount to stick it onto your car window. To get it up and running is very simple; plug in the charger to your cigarette lighter and the other end into the TomTom, clip the TomTom into the mount, and stick the mount onto the window using the sucker that is attached. Apparently older TomTom models used to be a bit of a pain to get the TomTom onto the mount but on the one I got all you...

Review of TomTom GO 910 by
holdfast
Advantages: New Features. MP3 Player,Audio Books,Traffic Alert system and more
Disadvantages: None
...(for MP3 Player), External Microphone Connector, External Antenna Connector, and Power Connector. I have my own views on this mount, I will explain at the end of this review.
Home Dock
This has a Home Charger Connector and a USB connector. So plug it into your home PC, with the new firmware (CD included in the box) you can easily update, plan routes and charge the unit all at the same time.
Car Charger.
Cig lighter to mount, turn on ignition and the unit starts up.
Home Charger.
As mentioned in Home Dock above.
Product Code Card
This has the product codes for the maps that are pre-installed on the unit, as a recent security measure, you can only down load maps, extra voices etc to the unit that is registered with TomTom via the web-site.
External Microphone.
This allows you to locate the mic for better comms when using...

*************
The TomTom One is without doubt the No.1 entry level satnav in the market with its accurate mapping, ease of use, portability, superior GPS reception, along with its budget pricing. Way to GO TomTom but...
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
Nick_Endeavour
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...by the heaven of the Marshall Plan boys.
Also if your family member/gf/mate/etc have a 710 you can't borrow their maps because you need to activate them and enter product keys. Nice try TomTom
The good news is that the MRE section of the TomTom map is better that the Navteq one. Is complete, it has most routes, and most main roads in towns. Even small ones, Happy Days.
BATTERY LIFE
The selling point of the TomTom. The battery lasts and lasts. I never used the in-car charger, which is probably a good thing as I can see it becoming messy in the car. The battery life is a few hours which is great and means that you can take it out of the car and not be dependable from the power supply.
The bad news is that it will last as TomTom says only 2 years and that is by being careful to prolong it by charging it than letting it discharge only...

Have TomTom will travel!
Review of TomTom ONE Local by
kwildchild
Advantages: Compact, neat and gets you where you want to go
Disadvantages: Don't use Shortest route on long journeys
...So there I was with a trip to Leicester from North Wales, so I visited a website to get a route map, OH NO! How confusing, so I bought myself the new TomTom One Local from my local Currys for only £199.98.
After getting the TomTom home and unpacking it I couldn't believe how compact the new model was compared to the older models that I had used in the past the new TomTom One is about 2.8cms deep, 9.5cms wide and 8cms high.
In the box you get the SD card with the UK map on it as well as a CD with TomTom Home, which I will mention Later, the in-car charger, cable for plugging the TomTom into your PC, windscreen mount, registration card and the manual that you need to get the TomTom running.
First of all the manual is right down to the basics of using the TomTom and explains how to enter an address and the TomTom will work out...

This is your TomTom speaking ...
Review of TomTom GO 300 by
Geldoff
Advantages: Safer driving and you'll never get lost.
Disadvantages: Seems a little pricey at first.
...are coming up so that you can avoid the sudden braking of the cars in front!
Also the TomTom Go 300's big brothers, the 500 and the 700, are equipped with Bluetooth technology to download weather forecasts and traffic updates through your (Bluetooth enabled) mobile phone and can be used as a hands-free kit. The TomTom can be programmed to avoid traffic congestion or weather events like Michael Fish.
: : : Where can I buy one and what will it cost? : : :
The TomTom Go is widely available from a large number of number of outlets including Curry's, Dixons, Comet, Maplin, Amazon and Halfords.
Expect to pay about £370 including VAT although beware of some outlets that advertise it more cheaply but exclude the VAT.
: : : Conclusion : : :
Is the TomTom Go 300 worth having? Yes. It seemed expensive when I first looked...

The Tom Tom GO 510
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
coxy2000
Advantages: Nice size screen.
Disadvantages: Windscreen mount is weak.
...on auction sites for the extras as Tom Tom charge £5 for each voice (I bought 20 celebrity voices for £5).
There are some annoying disadvantages though. The mount for the windscreen is weak and often on a journey the display will start to droop until it is facing the floor. Also as a test I asked it to plan a route to my local garage. It managed to take me a strange and very long way round.
Tom Tom also charge a yearly fee if you want to subscribe to extras like traffic congestion, which I believe is free on other devices. The other disadvantage to this is that it has to be connected to your mobile phone when you are travelling and it is taking info from there website, so you are also paying for an internet connection on your mobile aswell.
The extra kit includes an in car charger, a home charger and an extention microphone to attach...

Tom Tom fab fab
Review of TomTom ONE Local by
Marieal
Advantages: Easy to use, a fantastic invention
Disadvantages: Very occasionally doesn't identify one way streets
...you down them the wrong way! As long as you are paying attention to the road it shouldn't matter, just ignore it and carry on down a different road and it will recalculate your route.
That is the thing I found the most helpful - that if you do ignore it and take a wrong turning or a road is closed, you don't have to turn around, you can just carry on and it will adjust your route from where you are.
If you're looking for something really simple then this is fantastic, you just charge it up (in-car charger supplied), set your home address and where you want to go and you're off! It's very easy to use and is operated by a touch screen. It fits easily onto the windscreen with a detatchable mounting kit.
On the screen there is a map which you can set to just show where you are and the next turning, or you can zoom out and show...

Tom Tom One - just what a dyslexic husband needs!
Review of TomTom ONE by
jooleybooley
Advantages: Easy to use GPS route planner. No more fumbling with maps
Disadvantages: Sometimes - very rarely, it doesn't recognise mini-islands. Window holder not too good
...him.
4) Some mini-islands and u-turns aren't picked up by the Tom Tom One. We were halfway over the smallest mini island ever - with horns blaring all around - before we realised why the little granny was giving us the finger.
5) Depending on where you mount your Tom Tom, the power lead can get in the way.
6) Going near an airport can get Shirley all confused. (Must be the thought of pilots) She took us around in circles until I told her to shut up before reaching for a map.
7) AND THE BIG NIGGLE FOR LONG JOURNEYS WITH KIDS - If you use the cigarette lighter for your Tom Tom, you can't use it for the kids in-car entertainment system or games. Of course, some of the large MPV's or seven-seaters have two lighters but, typically, one of ours doesn't work, so we were in the dog house when we unplugged Harry Potter taking off on buckbeak...
