...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. ...I Recently replace my Garmin Street pilot unit with a TOM TOM V3 Europe (Traffic edition). I mainly did this because I wanted a low cost traffic solution, and I was able to get this from Halfords for under £170.00 (at the time of purchase) It came complete with the TMC receiver module. Another reason for choosing Tom Tom was how disappointed I was with my Garmin, and how much better my Wife's Tom Tom one original was compared to it. The unit is small and light, and the TMC receiver stays in my car fixed on with suction pads. It has a touch screen, and the menu icons are quite large. However I have thick fingers and I find that the touch pad keyboard screen used for Post codes/addresses is too small and I often get letters/numbers that I havent touched. ...should be heading for. It has software that is easy to use and allows you to connect to your home computer and update readily. You do need to use the in car charger if going any distance, but its easy enough to use. The sucker is very quick to put in place, and also take down again. I like that you can have places of special interest, like petrol stations showing. Especially useful when going to an area that is remote (like parts of Wales and Scotland) so you have an idea of where a station is. I have two memory cards, simply to ensure I always have a back up since all information is on the one card. Route options are good, with more than just the quickest option available. ...I bought this specifically as we want to do some traveling around France. From plotting in some destinations it seems to illustrate areas well and know most places that are not too small. I think the 'city centre' function is a little off putting as it would lead one to think of cities, whereas, helpfully, most small towns are easily found using this function, why not call it 'Town Centre'? I found the system very, very easy to set up and use, on screen instructions are helpful as is the Tom Tom home package which comes in the box. The touch screen function is good to use, and the keys big enough so that one doesn't hit the wrong one by mistake. Advantages: Small neat device that works well and excellent navigation software

...The package includes navigation software for Palm 5 PDAs and the Microsoft PocketPC PDAs but you should check which models are supported. I run the Palm version on my Treo650 smartphone. I have to travel around the UK a fair bit for work and also like to tour round the UK and Europe for pleasure. Actually, the main reason I bought the package was to circumvent the possibility of having any navigation arguments with my wife on our honeymoon! We went on a driving holiday from London to Vienna. So I invested in the whole Europe street level mapping pack on top of the included UK map that comes with the pack (you get your local country map depending on where you buy the package).
