TomTom Go720T arrived 30th Nov 2007
Review of TomTom GO 720 by
Consumer56
Advantages: Simple to use, compact, good PC interface
Disadvantages: None I can think of so far, could have had a case I suppose
...Seen a few negatives ie.WOLFIE665 review below and past experience with Tomtom made me nervous, but my TomTom 720T arrived and with some trepidation I linked it to my PC to update and it was seamless, worked a treat.
Couldnt download the latest European map 7.10 as I had 7.5 under their "latest map guarantee" but hopefully Tomtom will sort me out.
Bought a carry case (you need one) from Lindens Ebay for £4.99 in blue. they have black, brillant and it arrived in a flash, cannot understand why someone would pay over £19 for a leather one as this is padded, perfect.
In the car all worked well, the windscreen holder some people criticise is fine, small neat and it works well, not half so bulky as the last one
Hands free phone system worked ok, as did the music through the speakers, ok you have to turn your radio up, but its...

New 720T GPS unit from TomTom
Review of TomTom GO 720T by
Consumer56
Advantages: Small. compact good screen, fairly simple to use
Disadvantages: No electronic screen button to switch it off only hardware button
...With some trepidation as Ive dealt with TomTom in the early days I ordered up the Go 720T. Ive read a few negatives but Ive used the tomtom software for some years on my PDA (after they got it right) and so am familiar with it
The 720T arrived free overnight by 1pm from "The Link" for £256 and I set it up on my PC. It linked without problems via the Tomtom Home V2.1
The only item was the map update, it said I had the latest map 7.05 when in fact the website had 7.10 map. Ive emailed Tomtom so hope they will provide me with a link under their latest map guarantee.
The unit has worked well and Im pleased I made the purchase. The Traffic addition linked up but as yet I havent completed any long journeys to see if it kicks in.
Didnt come with a case (you need one) so I bought a blue nylon type one at £4.99 from EBay, (Lindens...

TomTom Does It Again
Review of TomTom GO 720T by
Surj1
Advantages: VRT (Voice Recognition Technology), 4.3 inch widescreen & Sleek Design
Disadvantages: None
...TomTom is a trustworthy name when it comes to GPS units. I recently bought this and loved it. The TomTom GO 720T is an updated version of the GO 510 which was an amazing GPS unit itself.
The TomTom GO 720T has a comfortable 4.3 inch widescreen and this unit is one of the first GPS systems to have VRT (Voice Recognition Technology). The system records your voice and gives you an answer to your vocal question of your chosen route. You can ask the TomTom to work out your route from point A to B by simply using your voice. The TomTom allows you to choose from a number of pre set voices to guide you through your journey or even your own voice.
The TomTom GO 720T has a new never seen before graphics interface. The look of the maps is sleek and the buildings are in more detail. Set in the TomTom's memory is a list of speed cameras...

Way to GO TomTom but...
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
Nick_Endeavour
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...to about half way through and charge again. Do not let it drain.
You can always use another battery but you can't change it. You have to dismantle it and to put the icing on the cake you have to solder a few bits. WHHAATTT? I hear you saying. Well tough would say TomTom or just use it with the in-car charger from then on.
Nice one guys….Maybe Market Garden wasn't a good idea after all
POI
To put it mildly the ones that TomTom comes with are rubbish. Well apart from the free fixed cameras one which is good to have. In your face Road Angel!
To the rescue…www.poihandler.com which should be itched on the skin of every Sat Nav owner: It has everything! From Museums and Village libraries to Strip Joints and Brothels (I am not kidding). Just download the ones you want and bang them into the maps folder and way you go.

TomTom Go910 The best GPS on the market
Review of TomTom GO 910 by
fightgear
Advantages: fast, accurate, great support, tons of worthwhile features
Disadvantages: bit ugly and bulky
...I ended up getting the TomTom 910 as a result of a crap experience with the Navman 720. Best mistake I ever made!
The TomTom was recommended to me by several people but I wentmy own way and bought the Navman 720. I like the looks of it and the inbuilt camera. I had nothing but problems. In the end, the company I bought it from offered me the pick of the GPS systems they sold - after much research I chose the 910.
Whereas the Navman would take upto 3 or 4 minutes to get a full signal where we live, the 910 picks up its signal within a minute. It's ability to say road numbers and street names is very useful but using this means you can't use te many available celebrity voices. I would love to try them but like the usefulness of the computerized voice too much.
Another added feature is its bluetooth interaction with your phone...

Tom Tom Go Gets Better
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
debbiejkeith
Advantages: Easy to use, clear and concise directions, also acts as a hands free kit
Disadvantages: none
...The TomTom GO 510 gives clear concise directions accompanied by a map marked with the route you are following which comes in handy for those mini roundabouts that don't register on the map.
Put in your destination by selecting a favourite (a place pre-defined by you), an address (can be done by postcode or street address) a town or a point of interest and TomTom will get you there. You can select which way you want to go (shortest, quickest, etc) and what time you want to be there. If for any reason you want / need to go a different way mid-journey TomTom can do that for you too. If you need to go to several places in one journey you can use the itinary planner to do that.
This series of the TomTom GO lets you know what the speed limit is on some roads and lets you know when you are exceeding it.
The widescreen makes the images...

You cant go wrong with a TomTom Go 910
Review of TomTom GO 910 by
SUGGI01
Advantages: Size, Looks, features, reliability
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...This is the easiest and most feature packed GPS in car navigation system that Tom Tom have brought out. I bought one from PC World for £350 and have to say that it is money well spent. I bought it as primarily my job took me to varying places in the United Kingdom on a weekly basis and up till the point i bought it, i had to rely on using paper maps bought from garages. With the incorporated Speed Camera database, you cant go wrong and you get warnings early enough about fixed cameras. (The database doesnt cover mobile speed cameras). With a avriety of languages to choose from, it is suitable for people in all countries. The features are great and navigation is so easy to work out.. simply put in the destination postcode and after a few seconds of plotting you are ready to go. The display is touch screen for ease whilst driving and also...

Tom Tom Go 500
Review of TomTom GO 500 by
bindie
Advantages: Touch Screen, Bluetooth Connection
Disadvantages: Low Sound From Loudspeaker
...The Tom Tom Go 500 offers a lot for the price. It is reasonably small while still keeping a reasonably sized screen. The screen is clear, and incredibly easy to use. The touch screens enables you too quickly and easily access the menu system and select different areas.
It has a piece of software that tells you where all the traffic jams are which is very helpful. Although this only works when it is connected to your phone via the Bluetooth connection. All of this is offered in Tom Tom Plus, which is a subscription service.
When connected to you phone, you can make calls easily, and receive and read text messages on the screen. But, when driving, you can not really hear the conversation when calling someone; the loud speaker just isn't loud enough. Although it is fine if you are just keeping to lower speeds and driving around...

TomTom To the Rescue
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
...need to do is slide the TomTom on the mount by using what can only be described as a slot.
The main reason you get satellite navigation is for directions so I'll talk about that first. Once you turn the machine on and your current position is found (which takes no more than about 15 seconds from pressing the on button to your position being found) then you need to put in your destination. This can either be done by putting in the postcode or manually finding the street. Once you do this the TomTom will calculate your route and confirm it to you. Once this is done then you are up and ready to go. It's as simple as that. As you travel it also gives out information via the speaker such as an upcoming turn or a speed camera ahead. This information is very useful and gives you plenty of warning of what to do. It will tell you when you need...
