...The TomTom 910. Well this mere mortal is here again. Over the years I have owned 3 TomTom devices, the TomTom Classic, TomTom 500 and now the TomTom 910. Family members are benefiting from my cast-offs in a big way. So imagine my delight when visiting my local Halfords on the 3rd of May 2006 to purchase screen wash, I found myself being mysteriously drawn by an unknown force to the GPS display. I could feel my credit card trembling in fear, in a euphoric haze I purchased the said device. I left the store trembling in anticipation, achieved warp factor 7 and found myself at home opening the box. OK so I had an idea, that they were about to introduce a new range with even more features than the last, but I did not realise that they were to appear so soon. ...to about half way through and charge again. Do not let it drain. You can always use another battery but you can't change it. You have to dismantle it and to put the icing on the cake you have to solder a few bits. WHHAATTT? I hear you saying. Well tough would say TomTom or just use it with the in-car charger from then on. ...This is the easiest and most feature packed GPS in car navigation system that Tom Tom have brought out. I bought one from PC World for £350 and have to say that it is money well spent. I bought it as primarily my job took me to varying places in the United Kingdom on a weekly basis and up till the point i bought it, i had to rely on using paper maps bought from garages. With the incorporated Speed Camera database, you cant go wrong and you get warnings early enough about fixed cameras. (The database doesnt cover mobile speed cameras). With a avriety of languages to choose from, it is suitable for people in all countries. The features are great and navigation is so easy to work out.. simply put in the destination postcode and after a few seconds of plotting you are ready to go. .... No need for a separate hands free, this does it for you! Plus, it is clear and easy to use. Easy to set up as well. On the GPS front, it has never yet frozen on me (Navman did regularly), the unit runs for a good long time without needing to charge up (we did a trip of 400 miles without powering it over two days). It has a good sized hard drive which can store music, photographs (which it can show at start up or as an album), etc. There are perhaps more Points of Interest available for the TomTom than any other GPS out there. Everything from Hilton Hotels, B&Q, KFC to naughty underwear stores, car main dealers, petrol stations (including by make if you are particular) to every kind of attraction. ...some people who have other makes of satellite navigation but it is always freezing and things keep going wrong but as yet I have suffered no problems. I have also heard of people who have TomTom's but it takes them in wrong directions or will take them the wrong way down a one way street but fortunately I am yet to suffer any of these kind of problems. This I s probably due to the mapshare feature. The one thing that is a bit of a negative is the battery. It says that it is supposed to last 5 hours but I find that hard to believe. In reality I have found it to be closer to about 3. This isn't a problem as you are given an in car charger so its not a big deal but it can be a bit frustrating if you are using the cigarette lighter for something else. ...will need to be on. The TomTom comes with a holder which has a 'sucker' which grips your windscreen meaning you can place it wherever without ruining your dashboard with some adesive rubbish glue. It also comes with an in-car charger which plugs into the holder, so you can charge while your on the move, and it comes with an in-wall charger for at home. You can select the tomtom routes to not take you as if you was in car, for example if you were walking, or cycling, so whenever you are on the move the TomTom is here to help. ...I've been using the TomTom one for a couple of months now, so thought I'd write a review on how I've found it. If you're after a review with lots of info about the spec of this thing, then don't read on, there are loads of websites out there with that info, I'm just going to give you an overview of how I find it in use, and pick out a couple of features that I find very useful. The TomTom One has just been revised and this is version 2. It's not massively different to the old model, but one big difference is the size. Whilst the screen remains the same size (at 3.5"), the unit as a whole is much thinner, which makes it easier to fit in your handbag or even shirt pocket when you leave the car.
