...The TomTom 910. Well this mere mortal is here again. Over the years I have owned 3 TomTom devices, the TomTom Classic, TomTom 500 and now the TomTom 910. Family members are benefiting from my cast-offs in a big way. So imagine my delight when visiting my local Halfords on the 3rd of May 2006 to purchase screen wash, I found myself being mysteriously drawn by an unknown force to the GPS display. I could feel my credit card trembling in fear, in a euphoric haze I purchased the said device. I left the store trembling in anticipation, achieved warp factor 7 and found myself at home opening the box. OK so I had an idea, that they were about to introduce a new range with even more features than the last, but I did not realise that they were to appear so soon. ...I ended up getting the TomTom 910 as a result of a crap experience with the Navman 720. Best mistake I ever made! The TomTom was recommended to me by several people but I wentmy own way and bought the Navman 720. I like the looks of it and the inbuilt camera. I had nothing but problems. In the end, the company I bought it from offered me the pick of the GPS systems they sold - after much research I chose the 910. Whereas the Navman would take upto 3 or 4 minutes to get a full signal where we live, the 910 picks up its signal within a minute. It's ability to say road numbers and street names is very useful but using this means you can't use te many available celebrity voices. I would love to try them but like the usefulness of the computerized voice too much. Another added feature is its bluetooth interaction with your phone... Read review

...out of a scene from Hellraiser: Matrix Style. SOFTWARE Now was time to play with the TomTom Home software, being a software engineer by trade I like it. It is intuitive; it loads up automatically when you connect the TomTom or even when you plug the SD Card in and shows what have you got installed, what can be installed from CD or you PC and even what you can download from the internet (TomTom related sites), ranging from maps to voices and updates (luckily these are for free). The software lets you control the TomTom via the computer to test the new downloads and changes without having to disconnect the unit from the cradle/dock. Still though you have to copy some files manually especially the POI downloaded from other sources as TomTom ones are just not enough. See POI section Also it shows the capacity of your card... ...This is the easiest and most feature packed GPS in car navigation system that Tom Tom have brought out. I bought one from PC World for £350 and have to say that it is money well spent. I bought it as primarily my job took me to varying places in the United Kingdom on a weekly basis and up till the point i bought it, i had to rely on using paper maps bought from garages. With the incorporated Speed Camera database, you cant go wrong and you get warnings early enough about fixed cameras. (The database doesnt cover mobile speed cameras). With a avriety of languages to choose from, it is suitable for people in all countries. The features are great and navigation is so easy to work out.. simply put in the destination postcode and after a few seconds of plotting you are ready to go. .... It is basically like having a brilliant navigator sitting next to you! The TomTom I got costs around £180 and only has the UK and Ireland maps so if you were to want to use it abroad then you would need to either buy a different model or buy the maps from the shop although I'm not sure how much it would cost. It does obviously have other features which I will come onto a bit later on. Inside the box is the TomTom, a car charger, installation CD, manual, cradle and window mount to stick it onto your car window. To get it up and running is very simple; plug in the charger to your cigarette lighter and the other end into the TomTom, clip the TomTom into the mount, and stick the mount onto the window using the sucker that is attached. Apparently older TomTom models used to be a bit of a pain to get the TomTom onto the mount but on the one I got all you... Read review

...of the user friendliness, the mapping, the feature set and the sheer performance. The experience ***************** Earlier, driving to some place meant that we had to do some prior research about the route to take. Then during the journey, with my husband driving, I had to play the role of the navigator, keeping the map book open, keeping a track of where we are and which route we need to take. Even when you have actually downloaded driving route instructions from a site and printed them out, what use are they if you take one wrong turn? All these hassles actually took the fun out of driving. But after buying the TomTom One, all we need to do is get the postcode of the place we need to get to, key it into the TomTom and we are ready to go. I can now enjoy the drive, sitting besides my husband without the hassles of juggling the map book... Read review

...The TomTom GO 510 gives clear concise directions accompanied by a map marked with the route you are following which comes in handy for those mini roundabouts that don't register on the map. Put in your destination by selecting a favourite (a place pre-defined by you), an address (can be done by postcode or street address) a town or a point of interest and TomTom will get you there. You can select which way you want to go (shortest, quickest, etc) and what time you want to be there. If for any reason you want / need to go a different way mid-journey TomTom can do that for you too. If you need to go to several places in one journey you can use the itinary planner to do that. ...I purchased this product just over a year ago, and have had no problems what-so-ever. The tomtom GO 500 has an easy touch-screen navagational display, in which you can enter an address, postcode and its GPS will direct you to the location whereever you may be. You can also set your home address in, and wherever you are, if you click home, it will find the fastest route home for you, and direct you there, not to mention telling you how far away you are, estimated time of arrival, and will also give you the option if you want the route to include toll roads or not. The tomtom GO 500 will naturate your directions outloud on its built in speaker. The TomTom Go 500 can also direct you to whats called a POI (Point Of Interest) which can things such as nearest petrol station, nearest hotel, resturant, nightclub, supermarket etc... Read review

...The Tom Tom Go 500 offers a lot for the price. It is reasonably small while still keeping a reasonably sized screen. The screen is clear, and incredibly easy to use. The touch screens enables you too quickly and easily access the menu system and select different areas. It has a piece of software that tells you where all the traffic jams are which is very helpful. Although this only works when it is connected to your phone via the Bluetooth connection. All of this is offered in Tom Tom Plus, which is a subscription service. When connected to you phone, you can make calls easily, and receive and read text messages on the screen. But, when driving, you can not really hear the conversation when calling someone; the loud speaker just isn't loud enough. Although it is fine if you are just keeping to lower speeds and driving around... Read review
