...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare. TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors. ...the tom tom rider... never again get lost on a bike, scooter etc.. this excellent piece of kit fits simply onto the top of a conventional motorbike's front forks or can be attached to a scooter fairing/screen with some simply modification and being only around a kg or so its very light so theres no real risk of breaking anything when attaching the device... once attached your ready to navigate to anywhere you please.. but its gonna rain.. navigation over right?? wrong the tom tom rider is water resistant so can be used in pretty much all conditions.. even in direct sunlight the anti glare screen is easy to see and use.. getting directions from the device happens through a wireless bluetooth headset that you wear inside your helmet.. this headset can also be used to answer voice calls from you mobile phone as the device also routes calls... ...The Tom-Tom GO 500 offers a lot of functions for what it costs. the screen is of a good size, and it has a crisp, clear picture. the touch screen capability allows you to quickly and easily navigate the menu and select the many options. the GPS it uses is very up to date and as yet, it hasn't directed us down a road that no longer goes where we are headed. however, the Tom-Tom does take a while to adjust its navigations and will persitently try and make you turn around when possible, which can get rather annoying. however, as this only generally happens when you choose shortcuts as you know where you are going, it is not generally a problem, as you don't need a GPS system to get you to the local shops do you? ...If you are looking for a Satellite Navigation system that is easy to use and reliable then this could be the system for you. I bought this product to use in conjunction with my 02 XDA exec mobile phone. The sd card (arrives as mini sd with an sd adaptor) installs the programme quickly and easily onto your device, all you need is enough free memory. After that, turn on your GPS reciever from the box, and your bluetooth and connect the devices. From here on you are up and running. You can store your home destination, and if you have added addresses to contacts in your phone, you can access them directly from TomTom. It can take a while to pinpoint your location from a cold start up, which can be frustrating if you are starting from an unknown location and are wanting to get on the go. ...more seconds it reworked the route from the direction I was going and gave me a new route to get me where I was going, superb. Using the menus on the TomTom is very easy and self-explanatory such as Navigate to, find alternative, Change preferences and much, much more. This version also has the option of connecting to your mobile phone via bluetooth to enable you to get the PLUS options such as TomTom Traffic which warns you of traffic problems on your route, Safety camera warnings which tells you where the speed camera are and also TomTom buddies which connects you to other TomTom users, but, you have to pay a subscription to the TomTom PLUS services, but it is nice to have the option. ...I recently acquired the TomTom GO 710 from Halfords I paid approximately 300pounds in store. The box it came in was nice and compact it contained;1GB SD Card, Carry Case, Home Dock, Car Charger, Windscreen Dock, External Microphone, Quick Start Guide and the TomTom unit itself. The TomTom has a Lithium-Ion battery (4 hours operation) which enables the TomTom for lengthy use without charging though a car charger is included with the package. The dimensions: are 112x81x66 mm and it weighs: 300 grams so although it is light it is a little large to fir comfortably into most peoples pockets should you be walking with the navigation unit.
