TomTom Navigator 5 Bluetooth GPS for Palmtop
Review of TomTom Navigator by
bpg2504
Advantages: Excellent route planning, directions,
Disadvantages: Old maps needs updating, Slow GPS signal at start
...I purchased this Tom Tom Navigator 5 for approx 200 GBP two months back. I am an IT Consultant and am required to go to different client's sites at different locations. At first I used to print out the directions from mapquest or theaa.com and then try to follow these, but always I used to lose or miss out in between and land up searching again. This procedure was difficult if I was traveling alone as its difficult to hold that piece of paper and look out for directions etc.,
So I finally decided to go in for the Navigation software and I had heard that TOMTOM is the best in the market. Now I had to decide in TOMTOM which one I have to choose. I finally decided on this model since I already had a Zire 72 Palmtop (Bluetooth enabled) which I could use for this purpose.
This package contains
- Bluetooth GPS Receiver
- Car...

TomTom Navigator 3 for Pocket PC
Review of TomTom Navigator by
charlie68
Advantages: Route Planning, Position, distance to next instruction
Disadvantages: Old Maps, POI Warnings require add-on
...I purchased TomTom Navigator along with my HP iPAQ 2210 about 10 months ago. I travel about 18000 miles a year and this product has been a great asset. It saves me having to make route notes and keep referring to road atlases. For town driving it is even better as road maps do not show all local roads. I initially purchased version 3.0 but have now upgraded to v3.03 (427). I use it with a wired GPS receiver which simply plugs into the cigarette lighter in the car.
In most cases you run the application and then bring up the Navigator Menu. You can then choose where you want to go; a recent location, an address, a favourite location or even a Point of Interest (more on these later). The address can be based on a post code or you can enter the town, street name etc yourself. Your ‘Home’ address can be saved as a key favourite place...

TomTom Navigator 6 for PDA
Review of TomTom Navigator 6 20 channel GPS kit by
darrenwalton
Advantages: Incredibly easy to use.
Disadvantages: Slow cold start time on GPS reciever.
...If you are looking for a Satellite Navigation system that is easy to use and reliable then this could be the system for you. I bought this product to use in conjunction with my 02 XDA exec mobile phone. The sd card (arrives as mini sd with an sd adaptor) installs the programme quickly and easily onto your device, all you need is enough free memory. After that, turn on your GPS reciever from the box, and your bluetooth and connect the devices. From here on you are up and running.
You can store your home destination, and if you have added addresses to contacts in your phone, you can access them directly from TomTom. It can take a while to pinpoint your location from a cold start up, which can be frustrating if you are starting from an unknown location and are wanting to get on the go. You can tailor TomTom to your personal preferecnces...

TomTom Navigator 6
Review of TomTom Navigator 6 Maps of Western Europe GPS software by
clivefallon
Advantages: Detailed, easy to use
Disadvantages: Slow (but this could just be my phone)
...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2.
I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to.
The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. Since i returned to the UK however I...

Tom Tom One is Inexpensive Sattelite navigator
Review of TomTom ONE V2 Regional Great Britain by
ma_siddiqui
Advantages: Touch screen, Easy to use/install
Disadvantages: Has some bugs in map and direction, Low battery life
...I bought the TomTom One some eight months ago. I had some experience of using a navigation system as my previous car had one built in and I became quite dependent on it.
Cost
I had bought a new Audi A4 sometime in 2003 and remember paying around 1000 Pounds extra for the built in sat nav system. It was a bad decision and would recommend you not to make the same mistake.
But for my recent car, I was determined to do the research and then buy a Sat nav system, so I spent few days going around all the shops and searching the net to compare different Sat nav products and prices. I finally settled on the TomTom One because I personally found it to be the best value for money out there at the time. I ended up paying only £220 fron Dixons web offer. But presently it can be bought for less then 170 Pounds.
Reasons to buy
1. Easy...

All across Europe with my TomTom
Review of TomTom Navigator 5 - Bluetooth by
buyer991
Advantages: Small neat device that works well and excellent navigation software
Disadvantages: Non-replaceable battery, maps getting out of date
...The package includes navigation software for Palm 5 PDAs and the Microsoft PocketPC PDAs but you should check which models are supported. I run the Palm version on my Treo650 smartphone.
I have to travel around the UK a fair bit for work and also like to tour round the UK and Europe for pleasure. Actually, the main reason I bought the package was to circumvent the possibility of having any navigation arguments with my wife on our honeymoon! We went on a driving holiday from London to Vienna. So I invested in the whole Europe street level mapping pack on top of the included UK map that comes with the pack (you get your local country map depending on where you buy the package).
I also subscribe to the Traffic info and UK Safety Cameras Plus services from the TomTom web site.
THE RECEIVER
The new MkII version of the receiver...

TomTom v5 - Good software with some minor bugs
Review of TomTom Navigator 5 - Bluetooth by
p-sutherby
Advantages: Easy to setup and use, Clear maps, Works great!
Disadvantages: Some minor bugs, Costly to keep maps up to date
...TomTom Navigator brings the market leading SatNav software and functionality to a PDA. Plan your routes with your preferences (avoid toll roads, fastest, etc).
The software is very easy to install - just run the CD on your computer and it copies the files to your PDA - easy! This does take a long time however so dont think you can just install and use in 5 mins... set it going whilst you are doing something else and leave it to it.
Once the software has been installed and the maps copied across to your PDA, you go through a setup program on the initial load. You configure your GPS receiver (bluetooth or wired) and set up your preferences - voice, metric/imperial etc. This is easy to complete and a nice welcome to the software.
The menus are clear and bright, with big icons that you can finger press, or use your PDA's stylus...

TomTom - slow, large but still simple BEST
Review of TomTom Navigator 6 Maps of Western Europe GPS software by
hauran
Advantages: great controlled
Disadvantages: slow planning
...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare.
TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors. One more thing that is not a plus for TomTom is the space required for maps. The other software has...

show me the way tom tom
Review of TomTom Navigator 5 - Bluetooth by
pehorts
Advantages: easy and intuitive to use
Disadvantages: i have only found 1 minor bug so far
...tom tom 5 is very easy to set up, I recieved mine pre installed on an sd card with my pda so i cant comment on installing from scratch. i did start playing as soon as i took my pda out of the box and charged the batteries.
the navigation system uses the sirf II satelite system, with 20 satelites in view at any one time you can be sure you will quickly get a good signal, i usually get a usable signal within 30 seconds of turning tom tom on. if you are indoors or not in range of a satelite you will get a message in the bottom corner telling you "waiting for a valid gps signal".
setting your preferences is very easy and intuitive, planning preferences let you say what type of route you want, these are
Ask me when i plan
only fastest
only shortest
only avoid motorways
only walking routes
only cycling routes
only limited speed...

Should you Tom Tom?
Review of TomTom Navigator 5 - Bluetooth by
gollum3273
Advantages: Helps you find your way in new areas
Disadvantages: A pain to install,
...Tom Tom navigator 5
This sat nav system is available for most PDA and Mobile 5 phones; you can purchase this system in a few different ways.
It can be bought as a complete set, which includes a 128mb SD card, Instructions, Product code, and Wired GPS receiver.
OR as 128mb SD card, instructions, Product code, and Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Both for around £ 199
Or just as a 128mb SD card, with instructions and Product code.
For around £80
Since receiving this SD card only version of this tom tom sat nav system for Christmas I have only a few things which I want to say about it.
Firstly make sure that you only want to use it on one mobile phone as once you have installed the software and activated the maps, it will not work on any other phone.
Make sure that you have plenty of empty memory on your phone...
