...I Recently replace my Garmin Street pilot unit with a TOM TOM V3 Europe (Traffic edition). I mainly did this because I wanted a low cost traffic solution, and I was able to get this from Halfords for under £170.00 (at the time of purchase) It came complete with the TMC receiver module. Another reason for choosing Tom Tom was how disappointed I was with my Garmin, and how much better my Wife's Tom Tom one original was compared to it. The unit is small and light, and the TMC receiver stays in my car fixed on with suction pads. It has a touch screen, and the menu icons are quite large. However I have thick fingers and I find that the touch pad keyboard screen used for Post codes/addresses is too small and I often get letters/numbers that I havent touched. ...One to connect to a PC could be more user-friendly. It is definitely not up to the mark. • I have had to reset it sometimes when starting it up, but this is not a major issue. I have heard people say that the TomTom One's loudspeaker is not as good as its predecessors'. I myself have had no problems with it. The volume is also linked to the car speed so that the volume is increased at higher speeds to improve audibility. ...then missed a crucial turning. It seems like a good idea, but some other type of holding clip should be invented. There is also the problem of advertising to THIEVES that you have one, so it is best kept out of view. Some thieves even look out for the suction cup mark on a windscreen - so you should at least wipe the mark off when you take it down and leave your car. A bit of spit on a tissue should do the trick. ;-) 2) It would have been nice to have a home charger supplied so we could check out a route from our lounge (Tom Tom One has a demo function). You can, however, purchase these separately. (Battery life is up to 2 hrs) 3) Three days in a row, my husband was taken on three different routes to the same destination. ...that if you want to charge the device at home you will need an extra cable at extra cost (around 10-15 Pounds). Actually this should have been included. Similarly you need to bus extra SD ram card for every new country. 2. It has certain software bugs, which means that if you give only the post code, it may take you to a wrong place. I have faced this problems few times, where it works inaccurately. It works better if you give the street name as well. 3. It cannot identify certain one ways or U turns. This has happened with me that my TomTom was telling me to enter a certain street which was one way. So it definitely needs a better Map and street knowledge. It needs continuous updating. 4. This is not exactly a TomTom drawback, but a human. The usage of Sat Nav makes you really dumb, as one is so used to it and gets dependent on it that one... Read review

...LATEST Tomtom lasted just over a week, then gave up the ghost, took it back to Argos - they were brilliant, was given the offer of my money back, opted for a replacement. This review is on the Tomtom One Version 3, Local only, if you intend adding lots of maps, then go for the Europe version. Having owned and used a Tomtom One, version one for two years, I can recommend them, unfortunately mine developed a fault, and I need one for work, so I ended up buying a new one. I am going through the process of sending my old one in for repair, although this will take time, and will have to be paid for, so may not be an economic repair anyway. If Tomtom do quote too high a price, then there is another alternative, I know of at least one company specialising in the repair of these units, at a more reasonable rate than Tomtom... Read review

I picked a TOMTOM navigator because I had more about them and they were said to be one of the best and very reliable. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and it didn't take long to figure out how to use, its an absolute lifesaver for someone who has no sense of direction (like me!!).
