...Backtrack to 1997, and Core Design found themselves with bit of problem concerning their action/adventure sequel Tomb Raider 2. Usually, a sequel can improve upon its predecessor as in the intervening time lessons can be learnt; flaws can be ironed out, gameplay tweaked and expanded, and needless problems eradicated – it’s how things work in the game industry you see… But the original Tomb Raider didn’t have any problems. Well, nothing substantial enough to go into here anyway, but the prospect of improving such a clever, innovative and mammoth title must have caused many a headache in Core’s development house at that time. Advantages: Great Graphics for PS2
Disadvantages: Too Short

...I have been a fan of Tomb Raider ever since Lara Croft made her first debut in 'Tomb Raider: Featuring Lara Croft', but that was 10 years ago. 6 games later, Lara returns in her new adventure: Tomb Raider: Legend. Tomb Raider: Legend takes a new approach on Tomb Raider, and was developed by Crystal Dynamics (Best known for the Legacy of Kain series.) This is quite a major difference as all other Tomb Raider games were developed by Core Design, which Eidos decided to ditch after their last unsucessful Tomb Raider game 'Angel of Darkness.' Unfortunately, I believe that Crystal Dynamics did not fully understand Tomb Raider, and the spark and beauty of the old games dissapeared within this game. I cannot fault Crystal Dynamics on their graphics, they are beautiful and really add atmopshere to the game. This is specifically shown... Read review

...The Tomb Raider chronicle Its that time again, the middle of November, TOMB RAIDER MONTH. This time of year we have come to expect a release of the Tomb Raider series, but are they actually improving on it? Tomb Raider 1was originally, and in all cases an excellent game, everyone owned a copy it came out on all consoles, then Tomb Raider 2 came out. This was a better game, different story, new moves and better graphics. Lara now becomes very well known for here assets Then it all went wrong As Eidos began to cash in more and more on lara Tomb Raider 3 came out, which ran the franchise very thin. The usual Lara, somehow jumping about the planet at differing locations, and not doing any Tomb Raiding in the whole game, as the title may suggest. Advantages: Er, nice box?
Disadvantages: Graphics, plot, controls, short levels, boring. It's plain bad!

...I'll put it to you straight. Angel of Darkness is worse than any of the previous Tomb Raider games. Almost all aspects of this game can, at best, be described as appalling. I'll start with the plot. Lara Croft, adventurer, has been framed for the murder of her mentor Werner Von Croy. In an effort to clear her name, she journeys to places such as the Louvre museum in Paris, and then naturally, a bio research station in Prague. I actually think it sounds better when you describe it like that. Why on Earth didn't they stick with the tried and tested formula of say, raiding tombs? Whatever happened to the quest for an artefact? I used to like that. Call me old fashioned, but when I sit down to watch an episode of Bargain Hunt, I don't expect to see David Dickinson in a race against time to clear his name of tax evasion. I really... Read review

Advantages: Fun to play, easy to pick up

...It has been nearly 3 years since the last instalment to the Tomb Raider series, 'Angel of Darkness', which did not live up to its predecessors. However the latest game has taken action on the criticisms and 'Tomb Raider : Legend' has been made so that it is more similar to the original games with the reincarnation of big puzzles and the disappearance of things such as the grip metre, a big relief to Tomb Raider fans. The Game has been released on PC, PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 (with a PSP release in May). As suggested by the name, the game includes many flashback moments in the game, the first being the very start to the game where Lara is on a plane with her mum which subsequentially crashes in an ancient land where her mum is sucked into a vortex in a cutscene and that is how the story is set. ...Important bits first, in case you don’t want to read through all this stuff : There are no sex scenes The violence is pretty standard and not likely to shock your average 6-yr-old The swearing is mild It is a James Bond/Indiana Jones/The Mummy-type movie. A good way to spend a rainy summer afternoon, not likely to make much of an impact at The Oscars. OK, that was the sort of stuff that I wanted to know before going to see this film, simply because my 9-yr-old son wanted to see it. I found out from reviews that it was pretty tame. It only got its 12 certificate because of the violence but most kids have played the games so aren’t bothered by that at all. Advantages: Good graphics, great gameplay, brilliant storyline

...As you will see in my review of Angel Of Darkness, I said that it wasn't Tomb Raider, well this one most certainly is. We have the double pistols back, all the jumps and actions that you would expect from the other Tomb Raider games and some well-added extras. The story is that Lara Croft has been looking for the parts of the legendary sword, Excalibur, which supposedly killed her mother when Lara was just a child. Will she find all the pieces she needs? And what will happen at the end? With an amazing twist at the end that will make you shout "OH MY GOSH!" Tomb Raider Legend will keep you hooked. There are also extras. For example, if you complete a time trial on a particular level, you will unlock a cheat code. The more levels you complete on the time trial, the more cheat codes you will unlock. ...Ok, so you've watched Angelina jiggling about for 1 hr 30, so it's time to put aside those dirty little thoughts and learn some Tomb Raider facts from the woman who loves Lara Croft. When I finally got round to seeing it I was not dissapointed, but being a die hard fan my view was that this film could do no wrong. ...We’ve all heard about Lara Croft, but just in case you haven’t, well, she stars as the heroine in the computer game “Tomb Raider”, and Angelina Jolie plays her in the film based on the game. I’m a big fan of Lara, and have every Tomb Raider game right up to the latest Tomb Raider 4. Tomb Raider 1 was the very first in the series, but to be honest, it compares so badly with the others that it’s almost like trying to read the newspaper or a magazine without wearing my glasses, because the graphics are so poor and fuzzy. I have the “Classic” collection, which is two CD’s with different levels. The first CD has two main game play options. ...the same game over and over again with new backgrounds does not make a good game. You`re lucky you have all those loyal fans out there; otherwise this series would be dead. Now either do as you promised with Tomb Raider and revamp the whole game, or let Lara rest in peace. As if that weren`t enough, there are other things wrong with the gameplay. Controls are shoddy at best, and it is virtually impossible to get Lara to make a turn without stopping to re-direct her. The lag time that is experienced when action gets pretty intense also affects the game`s controls, as the response time slows down immensely. Action is pretty rare, and you`ll spend the majority of the game just running around, pulling levers and switches, and finding level exits. Not only is this highly unoriginal, but it gets insanely boring after the first half hour or so... Read review
