paste with taste
Review of Tom's of Maine Toothpaste Fennel by
thethirdeye
Advantages: great taste, natural product, company philosophy
Disadvantages: not sold everywhere
...As someone who dislikes all things orally minty, I am always on the look out for unusual toothpastes and, whilst my purchasing decisions are not driven by particularly strong convictions, I do have a preference for natural products.
A few months ago, I found Tom’s of Maine’s fluoride free ’nature’s toothpaste’ in the well-being/organic aisle of my local Sainsbury’s. For rather obvious reasons, I decided against the other 4 flavours - Cinnamint, Spearmint, Gingermint Baking Soda and Peppermint Baking Soda - and selected the Fennel variant, with propolis and myrrh resins, at a cost of £2.49 for a generous 75mls.
I hadn’t previously heard of the manufacturer and was interested to discover from the traditionally styled packaging that they aim “to be distinctive in products and policies which honour and sustain our natural world...

Lies, damned lies, and toothpaste marketing.
Review of Macleans Remineralise Toothpaste by
peteshone
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive for a generic toothpaste with a different flavour
...When you buy a toothpaste called 'Remineralise', what exactly are you expecting?
Perhaps that the toothpaste will somehow do some remineralising? Of what? How? And what is remineralising anyway.
The dictionary definition of remineralise is....
1. To replace the depleted mineral content of bones, teeth, etc.
intr
2. Said of bones, teeth, etc: to regain or replace depleted minerals
Fantastic... toothpaste that will repair my teeth. Just what I've been waiting for, no more trips to the dentist for fillings, I'll use this toothpaste and all will be fine!
I bought this on - don't laugh - a buy one get one free offer at Tesco, £1.99 for 100ml tube. So I had two tubes of the stuff... I thought my filling filled teeth would be repairing themselves overnight! I Presume you can buy this anywhere as it's a Macleans (GSK) product...

TomTom One… It will change your life
Review of TomTom ONE Great Britain by
supreah
Advantages: Excellent navigation and GPS reception, portable, good value for money
Disadvantages: Poorly located charging indicator LED
...I don't know too much about in-car satellite navigation systems (satnavs, as they call them) and it's not that I have used a number of devices so that I can compare the pros and cons of one against the other. But, I am a very satisfied user of TomTom One and would definitely recommend it to any potential buyer. We bought the TomTom One about 4 months ago and to date, it hasn't given us a chance to regret our decision.
The TomTom One is one of the numerous entry-level satnavs in the market, but does not disappoint with its loads of features and reasonable price (We bought ours in Aug 2006 for £199). It has become very popular in the market. There are, of course, other companies which offer entry-level devices at a much lower price, but I can say from my and my friends' limited experience, TomTom devices are way ahead in terms...

Football toothpaste
Review of Signal Toothpaste by
Belfastgirl
Advantages: Cleans teeth well
Disadvantages: No protection for gums
...From the first tooth that I grew, like all mothers, my mother made sure that I cleaned my teeth well. For this twice daily task (in the morning after breakfast, and at night time just before I said my prayers) my mum always insisted that we use Signal toothpaste. I was always jealous of other kids who’s mums bought Colgate minty gel, cause in my opinion it tasted nicer. I only know this, however, because in Primary 2 our old bat of a teacher insisted that we clean our teeth at lunch time as well. So in an effort to liven up this mundane task we used to swap toothpaste, cause swapping toothbrushes was just too gross a thing to consider, even at the age of 7!
To this day, my mother insists on buying Signal toothpaste, and I have always thought that it was because she felt that it provided the best protection for our teeth. How...

TomTom To the Rescue
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
...After recently getting my brand spanking new TomTom 520 I thought I'd say a few words about how wonderful it is!
The TomTom brand of satellite navigation is probably the most popular satellite navigation system around. This is not to say it is the best one, merely the most popular. Within the TomTom range there are numerous models and the price ranges from about £130 - £400. Obviously the more you pay then the more features you will get. These may include things like different maps for the rest of the world or the ability to link it to your phone.
Satellite navigation systems are basically a tool that uses satellites to locate where you currently are and direct you to your destination by putting in the desired address. They use spoken voices to tell you when and where to turn and also how far from your turning you are...

Have TomTom will travel!
Review of TomTom ONE Local by
kwildchild
Advantages: Compact, neat and gets you where you want to go
Disadvantages: Don't use Shortest route on long journeys
...So there I was with a trip to Leicester from North Wales, so I visited a website to get a route map, OH NO! How confusing, so I bought myself the new TomTom One Local from my local Currys for only £199.98.
After getting the TomTom home and unpacking it I couldn't believe how compact the new model was compared to the older models that I had used in the past the new TomTom One is about 2.8cms deep, 9.5cms wide and 8cms high.
In the box you get the SD card with the UK map on it as well as a CD with TomTom Home, which I will mention Later, the in-car charger, cable for plugging the TomTom into your PC, windscreen mount, registration card and the manual that you need to get the TomTom running.
First of all the manual is right down to the basics of using the TomTom and explains how to enter an address and the TomTom will work out...

This is your TomTom speaking ...
Review of TomTom GO 300 by
Geldoff
Advantages: Safer driving and you'll never get lost.
Disadvantages: Seems a little pricey at first.
...If this little gem had been around in biblical times then there is no way that Jesus would have had to spend 40 days and 40 nights lost in the wilderness. Tap, tap, tap on the TomTom Go's screen with his index finger and he'd have been back in Bethlehem performing miraculous deeds before sunset!
: : : What does it do? : : :
Let me tell you a little about the TomTom. It's a portable satellite navigation system, which means that as long as it's turned on and can see the sky it can pinpoint its position to within 1 square metre anywhere on the surface of the earth. Yes, anywhere. And if it's beside you then it's pinpointed where you are too.
The TomTom Go comes complete with detailed maps of your country and you can buy maps of other countries so you'll know where you are when you're on holiday. The TomTom turns the maps...

Way to GO TomTom but...
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
Nick_Endeavour
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...I was bought this for Xmas and I felt like a kid again. The special offer at Curry's brings also a very welcome TomTom traffic module, this is actually just a re branded TMC module (the little green cameras on motorways) and works via RDS but hey on its own is about £60 so why not.
Open another box (inside the big one) and you finally you find the TomTom, sitting there looking at you pretty in a nice gleam smile. I was just dying to open it up and try it. Common sense though suggested putting it on charge and playing about with the rest of the gadgets.
This is where the first problem arouses. There is no jack to plug the charger in the TomTom and you have to use the dock, which means you have you have a dangling USB cable down in the living room because some genius designer though to make it built in. Now past that irritating...

TomTom 910 The Market Leader
Review of TomTom GO 910 by
holdfast
Advantages: New Features. MP3 Player,Audio Books,Traffic Alert system and more
Disadvantages: None
...The TomTom 910.
Well this mere mortal is here again. Over the years I have owned 3 TomTom devices, the TomTom Classic, TomTom 500 and now the TomTom 910. Family members are benefiting from my cast-offs in a big way. So imagine my delight when visiting my local Halfords on the 3rd of May 2006 to purchase screen wash, I found myself being mysteriously drawn by an unknown force to the GPS display. I could feel my credit card trembling in fear, in a euphoric haze I purchased the said device. I left the store trembling in anticipation, achieved warp factor 7 and found myself at home opening the box.
OK so I had an idea, that they were about to introduce a new range with even more features than the last, but I did not realise that they were to appear so soon.
What's in the Box
TomTom Go 910
A change from the 300...

MacLeans Milk Teeth Toothpaste
Review of Macleans Milk Teeth Toothpaste by
jules.34
Advantages: Good Price
Disadvantages: No pictures on it
...I bought this in a hurry for my son one day as the toothpaste I couldn't find the toothpaste I usually buy him in the shop I was in.
It comes in a tube, which is easy enough to open, although I have a job getting my son to use this one as his usual toothpaste has pictures on the front of the tube!
It's a white toothpaste and I have tasted it. It tastes okay, quite mild actually compared to some of MacLeans other toothpastes - my son even likes the taste and he's fussy at times!!
I don't know how much difference it makes to the teeth as my son kept going on about his usual toothpaste, that we ended up buying his usual one the next time we were in the town - we didn't use the whole of the MacLean's packet.
On the back of the packet there is the usual information about the toothpaste, including details of the fluoride content...
