TomTom GO 520
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
line0
Advantages: Easy to use, large screen
Disadvantages: Traffic alerts, recognition of speed limits
...The TomTom Go 520 has a good size screen and is very easy to use. Its packed with features and my favourite is the bluetooth connection to your mobile, even allowing the extraction of numbers contained within your phone book (its handy to note you can duplicate your phone book onto the TomTom, meaning a back up of your phone contacts). When making a call the sound quality is pretty good. The navigation is easy to use and I have had no problem with GPS signal (unlike my previous sat nav). It identifies safety cameras and also alerts you if you are breaking the speed limit, however this feature is also the only drawback I have found. Occasionally it will get the speed limit you are in wrong (the other day I was on a dual carriage and it instead the speed limit was 30m.p.h.). It comes with an RDS reciever for traffic alerts, although...

TomTom To the Rescue
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
...After recently getting my brand spanking new TomTom 520 I thought I'd say a few words about how wonderful it is!
The TomTom brand of satellite navigation is probably the most popular satellite navigation system around. This is not to say it is the best one, merely the most popular. Within the TomTom range there are numerous models and the price ranges from about £130 - £400. Obviously the more you pay then the more features you will get. These may include things like different maps for the rest of the world or the ability to link it to your phone.
Satellite navigation systems are basically a tool that uses satellites to locate where you currently are and direct you to your destination by putting in the desired address. They use spoken voices to tell you when and where to turn and also how far from your turning you are...

Tomtom - just in case! . . .
Review of TomTom Carry case ONE Case GPS by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: Protects.
Disadvantages: None.
...of this idea however, is the fact that it would be a visual target for muggers, I suppose you can't win them all.
The RRP is a whopping £19.99, although it is good quality, I suspect it is not actually worth this, and you can buy cheaper on the t'internet. . You have several other cheaper alternatives, you could go for a non brand name, or you could support your local charity shop and buy an old camera case - I am perfectly serious, you would have more choice of styles and colours, and you girls could co-ordinate your outfit with a choice of "designer" named camera cases. OR you could buy one from Tomtom, using vouchers. These are given away free with Tomtoms, and can be used to purchase any accessory, including cases. You will find that most vouchers are thrown away, or appear on ebay for 99p, most not even getting a single bid, so for a couple...

TomTom puts on a kinky leather suit
Review of TomTom Case GPS by
ausername
Advantages: cheap, classy leather looks, keeps the TomTom protected
Disadvantages: there are no disadvantages unless you are allergic to leather
...OK, you've just bought your TomTom GPS system and stupidly left it in your car to be stolen faster than a blink of an eye. OK, that’s just my stupidity, but after replacing my unit I decided that to ensure it was easy to carry around and would act as a subtle reminder I would buy a carry case. Looking around for the right one is a bit of a mission as there are so many different types available.
In the end I opted for the carry case shown at the top of the screen mainly because it looked slightly different, wasn't made from durable plastic and was only £25. Every other carry case I had seen was like a box, not too dissimilar to the case provided for face units of car audio equipment and as I already have to carry this around with me, I didn't like the idea of a briefcase packed full of plastic, instead I was drawn by the idea...

A to B the Easy Way - the Navman iCN 520
Review of Navman ICN 520 by
a4angus
Advantages: Small, portable, reasonable price
Disadvantages: 5 character post code search; windscreen reflection
..., roughlly the same size and shape as the Tom Tom Go. They have the same issue of portability and also are more expensive again. Map displays are the best on the market at present. Features are slightly less than the Tom Tom and about on a par with Navman.
Navman are also a long term player in navigation software, coming from New Zealand originally (1988), and rapidly gaining a good reputation for their marine, portable and car units.
The final decision came down to the size and features per pound - Navman won.
***********************
What's In The Box?
***********************
- The unit comes installed with the Navman SmartST™ software (essentially v3.5 of the current mapping software).
- The UK roads are pre-loaded onto a 256Mb SD memory card (so no computer necessary to use the unit) which comes with a protective case (not needed...

A nice piece of kit
Review of TomTom GO 520T by
texanenglishrose7
Advantages: Bluetooth, voice recognition
Disadvantages: No case provided with it
...I've just bought a Tomtom Go 520 after somehow managing to lose my Garmin somewhere in Manchester (grrrrr!) and up to now I'm fairly pleased with it. I loved my Garmin but was swayed by the 'gadgets' that the 520 has........bluetooth, voice recognition etc. However, there are several downsides that I have found so far. Firstly it doesn't appear to recognise all addresses......my friend lives in a house that is about 10 years old and although it can find the street it won't provide any house numbers which could be a pain if whoever you are visiting lives on a very long road! If you want street names and text messages read to you there are only a couple of voices to choose from and they have to be male or female computer voices, The rest won't read anything to you. The voice recognition is a bit hit and miss. You have to speak very slowly...

TomTom One… It will change your life
Review of TomTom ONE Great Britain by
supreah
Advantages: Excellent navigation and GPS reception, portable, good value for money
Disadvantages: Poorly located charging indicator LED
...to use and also provides a number of features which make planning of your journey an easy task.
Routing algorithm: This has to be an important feature. A satnav must be able to calculate the best route in the quickest possible time and quickly recalculate if one has taken a wrong turn somewhere. This rerouting feature is of course, what makes the investment worth it.
The routing algorithm for the TomTom is proprietary, of course. But, what matters is the speed and accuracy which is quite impressive. Even for calculating reasonably long routes, it does not take more than 5 seconds and the accuracy is spot on. We actually tested the algorithm with some routes we knew and the TomTom came up with better routes, in some cases, than the ones we were convinced, were the fastest. And according to experts, TomTom devices are the best when...

Have TomTom will travel!
Review of TomTom ONE Local by
kwildchild
Advantages: Compact, neat and gets you where you want to go
Disadvantages: Don't use Shortest route on long journeys
...downloaded Ozzy Osbourne to mine, for free and it's case of just copying the files to the TomTom, east really easy.
The battery life isn't too bad, once the TomTom is fully charged you will get about 2 hours of life from it, so if you going on a very long journey don't forget to take you in-car charger with you.
Overall if your looking for a Sat Nav device that's not bulky is quite compact and is full of some really good features then I would recommend the TomTom One to anybody....

TomTom 910 The Market Leader
Review of TomTom GO 910 by
holdfast
Advantages: New Features. MP3 Player,Audio Books,Traffic Alert system and more
Disadvantages: None
...The TomTom 910.
Well this mere mortal is here again. Over the years I have owned 3 TomTom devices, the TomTom Classic, TomTom 500 and now the TomTom 910. Family members are benefiting from my cast-offs in a big way. So imagine my delight when visiting my local Halfords on the 3rd of May 2006 to purchase screen wash, I found myself being mysteriously drawn by an unknown force to the GPS display. I could feel my credit card trembling in fear, in a euphoric haze I purchased the said device. I left the store trembling in anticipation, achieved warp factor 7 and found myself at home opening the box.
OK so I had an idea, that they were about to introduce a new range with even more features than the last, but I did not realise that they were to appear so soon.
What's in the Box
TomTom Go 910
A change from the 300...
