...I purchased this Tom Tom Navigator 5 for approx 200 GBP two months back. I am an IT Consultant and am required to go to different client's sites at different locations. At first I used to print out the directions from mapquest or theaa.com and then try to follow these, but always I used to lose or miss out in between and land up searching again. This procedure was difficult if I was traveling alone as its difficult to hold that piece of paper and look out for directions etc., So I finally decided to go in for the Navigation software and I had heard that TOMTOM is the best in the market. ...I've been using GPS for a couple of years now. I started with the GPS kit for the Compaq iPAQ series - the one that attaches to the iPAQ as a jacket. This had given me a couple of serious 'downers' about GPS, which nearly prevented me buying GPS again. Firstly, my old device was unable to hold and lock onto a signal through my heated front car windscreen, meaning that I'd had to buy a re-radiating antenna. Secondly, the device was next to useless for walking or hiking, because it kept disconnecting from the iPAQ. I'd seen, and wanted one of the TomTom bluetooth devices, but, seeing as they were going for around £85, was reluctant to invest. ...TomTom Navigator brings the market leading SatNav software and functionality to a PDA. Plan your routes with your preferences (avoid toll roads, fastest, etc). The software is very easy to install - just run the CD on your computer and it copies the files to your PDA - easy! This does take a long time however so dont think you can just install and use in 5 mins... set it going whilst you are doing something else and leave it to it. Once the software has been installed and the maps copied across to your PDA, you go through a setup program on the initial load. You configure your GPS receiver (bluetooth or wired) and set up your preferences - voice, metric/imperial etc. This is easy to complete and a nice welcome to the software. ...I ended up getting the TomTom 910 as a result of a crap experience with the Navman 720. Best mistake I ever made! The TomTom was recommended to me by several people but I wentmy own way and bought the Navman 720. I like the looks of it and the inbuilt camera. I had nothing but problems. In the end, the company I bought it from offered me the pick of the GPS systems they sold - after much research I chose the 910. Whereas the Navman would take upto 3 or 4 minutes to get a full signal where we live, the 910 picks up its signal within a minute. It's ability to say road numbers and street names is very useful but using this means you can't use te many available celebrity voices. I would love to try them but like the usefulness of the computerized voice too much. Another added feature is its bluetooth interaction with your phone... Read review

...If you are looking for a Satellite Navigation system that is easy to use and reliable then this could be the system for you. I bought this product to use in conjunction with my 02 XDA exec mobile phone. The sd card (arrives as mini sd with an sd adaptor) installs the programme quickly and easily onto your device, all you need is enough free memory. After that, turn on your GPS reciever from the box, and your bluetooth and connect the devices. From here on you are up and running. You can store your home destination, and if you have added addresses to contacts in your phone, you can access them directly from TomTom. It can take a while to pinpoint your location from a cold start up, which can be frustrating if you are starting from an unknown location and are wanting to get on the go. ...of these come with phone numbers which means that you can make a phone call via your Bluetooth phone which is neat. However some of these are out of date and some are not even there anymore. i.e I went to a Frankie and Benny's that was a nice council estate these days.  One small thing though, if you have more than one map, you would have to copy the POIs to every folder because it won't read them. From a software engineer point of view wouldn't be easier to have a folder called POI and have the software read from that??!! The GPS RECEIVER Top of the class SPIRF III receiver! It doesn't get any better than this and it works even indoors most of the time. It also doesn't lose connection once in the car. To connect after the signal has been lost it doesn't take more than a a couple of minutes and with the QuickFix update... Read review
