...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. ...personal favourite. My main word of warning is be careful which model you go for. I have the Europe model because I find it gives excellent coverage, and if we do go out of the country using the car to Europe, the knowledge we're covered by the Tomtom.... Read review

Advantages: Small neat device that works well and excellent navigation software
Disadvantages: Non-replaceable battery, maps getting out of date

...The package includes navigation software for Palm 5 PDAs and the Microsoft PocketPC PDAs but you should check which models are supported. I run the Palm version on my Treo650 smartphone. I have to travel around the UK a fair bit for work and also like to tour round the UK and Europe for pleasure. Actually, the main reason I bought the package was to circumvent the possibility of having any navigation arguments with my wife on our honeymoon! We went on a driving holiday from London to Vienna. So I invested in the whole Europe street level mapping pack on top of the included UK map that comes with the pack (you get your local country map depending on where you buy the package). You then are able to use your Tomtom one, Tomtom Rider, or any of the Tomtom Go series in Europe. The map in this review is version 6.5, this is the latest version out, and is pretty much up to date. ...Easily the best Low price GPS on the market. It's small, lightweight, easy to use and doubles up as a bluetooth hands free. Aswell as having customisable voices, an updated speed camera database, thousands of POS's (Points of intrests) it can even avoid traffic jams iether through the Tomtom plus services which work through a bluetooth connection to your bluetooth enabled mobile phone or through a traffic ariel attachment. It's quick and easy to remove from your car and small enough and light enough to carry in your pocket. You can even easily move it between cars using an extra mount saving you from having to unplug everything and re attach the suction cup. ...in your trip, etc. You can customize it to 'speak' in many different languages including English, Dutch, Portuguese, French and many others. Furthermore, you can also set the map with different colour schemes, which is very handy when driving at night so the colours are a bit less bright. Other additional features (you need to pay for this) let you know the weather of your destination in advance, the traffic of your route, make phone calls if your device allows you and many others. The advantage of this over the main Tomtom unit is that it has maps for the whole of the Western Europe. Advantages: Detailed, easy to use

...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2. I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to. The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. ...how much is free and needles to say I was disappointed that the 256MB has no space to put a pin in there left. The maps of GB and MRE of Europe are marvellous and do a spectacular job but for £300 they could at least put a 512 MB card. Basically you want to enter an extra voice which TomTom rather cheekily charges the best part of a fiver to get John Cleese being daft with directions and suddenly you get a honking noise that you run out of space (and is only 900 kb). In the days of 256MB SD cards being small change TomTom could have been feeling a bit more generous. Also the same feels for downloaded POIs no space left so I was left, having to shell out more to actually have fun with an expensive product. I recommend that you buy a 2GB card (TomTom will take up to 4GB but these are dear at the moment) which will hold all the maps... Read review

...to get one and they were out of my price range but in August 2007 V2 got a price cut and V3 entered the market cheaper than ever at around £140/150, or now a bargain at £132.00 as shown above.
