Way to GO TomTom but...
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
Nick_Endeavour
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...for the firmware (automatic download from TomTom via TomTom Home) it will triangulate the positions of the satellite even faster. Actually it will predict where they are via an algorithm. Very well thought indeed…
TRAFFIC UPDATES
On the Go 510 there are two ways to get them.
1. Via the TMC module through the RDS FM network (the same as your radio station displays its name on your car stereo) and only works on major motor ways and also you will have few more wires on the dashboard.
2. If you feel flash and want to get rid of the wires and obviously have money to burn than you can pay for the TomTom plus service that connects via your phone (bluetooth) onto GPRS and download the real time updates. Well money for data transfer, money to TomTom Plus and essentially only a slightly better service than the TMC. Shoving money down the drain...

tomtom 510, worth upgrading from the 500....?
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
barrytv
Advantages: pre-loaded speed cameras, ipod control, bluetooth hands-free, accessories, screen quality
Disadvantages: fiddly stand, bulky.
...Have owned a TomTom 500 for the past 18 months or so, and have recently decided to upgrade to the 510. so, was it worth it?Well in my honest opinion, not really....here's why
The new bracket is much harder to attach to your windscreen, and removing the tomtom from the stand is now a two hand job.
The TomTom often partly detaches from the stand whilst driving, causing the tomtom to shut down as it loses power, because it thinks you ignition has been turned off. (however, this has since been solved by upgrading to version 6.011 through the tomtom website, by disabling this feature!!!)
On the flip side...........
the machine is wider, however this is due to the fantastic quality widescreen that has been provided. although still hard to see in bright light.
the bluetooth handsfree is better.
it says it has a better aerial...

Tom Tom Go Gets Better
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
debbiejkeith
Advantages: Easy to use, clear and concise directions, also acts as a hands free kit
Disadvantages: none
...The TomTom GO 510 gives clear concise directions accompanied by a map marked with the route you are following which comes in handy for those mini roundabouts that don't register on the map.
Put in your destination by selecting a favourite (a place pre-defined by you), an address (can be done by postcode or street address) a town or a point of interest and TomTom will get you there. You can select which way you want to go (shortest, quickest, etc) and what time you want to be there. If for any reason you want / need to go a different way mid-journey TomTom can do that for you too. If you need to go to several places in one journey you can use the itinary planner to do that.
This series of the TomTom GO lets you know what the speed limit is on some roads and lets you know when you are exceeding it.
The widescreen makes the images...

The Tom Tom GO 510
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
coxy2000
Advantages: Nice size screen.
Disadvantages: Windscreen mount is weak.
...I bought my Tom Tom 510 in August 2006. The display is excellent and the instructions very clear. The things I like best are the way you can use your mobile phone straight through the unit using Bluetooth. It gives you complete handsfree operation using it's built in microphone and speaker. You can even download your mobiles phone book for on screen calling.
All instructions and maps for UK and main roads in Europe are clear and precise and have the advantage of selecting your destination by full address or post code, but beware they don't update maps for free and they also don't include places past Germany like Poland, although it is listed on there web site as included.
You get software for your p.c so you can add bits to the memory card e.g voices, speed cameras, low bridges, Fast food resturants e.t.c. It is worth searching...

TomTom Does It Again
Review of TomTom GO 720T by
Surj1
Advantages: VRT (Voice Recognition Technology), 4.3 inch widescreen & Sleek Design
Disadvantages: None
...TomTom is a trustworthy name when it comes to GPS units. I recently bought this and loved it. The TomTom GO 720T is an updated version of the GO 510 which was an amazing GPS unit itself.
The TomTom GO 720T has a comfortable 4.3 inch widescreen and this unit is one of the first GPS systems to have VRT (Voice Recognition Technology). The system records your voice and gives you an answer to your vocal question of your chosen route. You can ask the TomTom to work out your route from point A to B by simply using your voice. The TomTom allows you to choose from a number of pre set voices to guide you through your journey or even your own voice.
The TomTom GO 720T has a new never seen before graphics interface. The look of the maps is sleek and the buildings are in more detail. Set in the TomTom's memory is a list of speed cameras...

Get up and Go with the Tomtom GO 500
Review of TomTom GO 500 by
craggybuk
Advantages: Easy to update, user friendly, full postcode search, bluetooth, hands free
Disadvantages: occasional 'dead' moments, occasional strange routes
...I bought the Tomtom Go 500 the week it came out. At this point Satnavs were a luxury rather than an everyday item that most cars seem to posess these days.
I had decided on Tomtom based on the fact that they seems to have good reviews of their previous models and they were a lot cheaper than the competition, though at £469 I still wouldnt call it cheap.
--Whats in the box --
On opening the box, once you have delved deep enough to get past the various manuals, you will come to the main tomtom unit. the mounting cradle which will fix the tomtom to your windscreen, a 256mb SD card pre installed with software and maps, a mains adaptor with British and European plugs, an in car charger, a wallet to put the tomtom in when not in use, a USB cable to connect to your PC and some screen wipes. In order to get up and running, you only...

Find your way - the easy way
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
CarlG
Advantages: Good Maps. Highly configurable
Disadvantages: Slow inital signal pick up
...We have had our TomTom 510 for several months, it was a treat to ourselves as we were constantly getting lost or turning
up one way streets when finding hotels or going to for days out. We paid about £280 punds for it then (as we had some
discount codes for PC World), you can now get them for about £260 before any discount.
The device which is quite small (but quite chunky compared to the new slimline models that TomTom are starting to
introduce) has a very sharp colour touch screen, a power button on the top left, and a dock connector and SD Card slot
underneath - the maps are supplied on an SD card.
In the box as well as the device itself and memory card there is the car dock (which has a locking sucker), a desk dock, a
desk (3 pin charger), a car charger (works off the cigarrette lighter) and a nice little...

TomTom GO 300
Review of TomTom GO 300 by
pmdunn
Advantages: Easy to use, clear display and instructions
Disadvantages: optional extras and updates are a bit pricey
...I have had my TomTom GO 300 Sat Nav for exactly twelve months now and I wonder how I ever managed without it.
I bought my unit on Ebay and paid around £300 for it, since then the prices have come down a lot and a similar specification unit will now cost around £200
The main features of the GO 300 model are...

Built-in Bluetooth™ Connection: For use with your Bluetooth™-enabled device
Integrated GPS antenna
Multi-lingual: Speaks more than 30 languages in over 50 voices

TomTom Go720T arrived 30th Nov 2007
Review of TomTom GO 720 by
Consumer56
Advantages: Simple to use, compact, good PC interface
Disadvantages: None I can think of so far, could have had a case I suppose
...fine. I cant fault it and Im pleased with my purchase.
Although TomTom website help looks great ,there are a number of minor but relevant questions not answered, so you have to go through their process and email and keep your fingers crossed they reply and to date they have.
Only 1 year warranty now, used to be two on previous products so lets hope it stays robust. Paid £256 via "TheLink" with free by 1pm next day delivery, it turned up on time.
Im sure the price will drop now Ive bought one. Go ahead and buy one..it works well and I cant imagine the problem with WOLFIE665 machine as it sounds unfortunate so I have to assume he was very ,very unlucky or something else occurred which is a shame...
