Way to GO TomTom but...
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...for the firmware (automatic download from TomTom via TomTom Home) it will triangulate the positions of the satellite even faster. Actually it will predict where they are via an algorithm. Very well thought indeed?
TRAFFIC UPDATES
On the Go 510 there are two ways to get them.
1. Via the TMC module through the RDS FM network (the same as your radio station displays its name on your car stereo) and only works on major motor ways and also you will have few more wires on the dashboard.
2. If you feel flash and want to get rid of the wires and obviously have money to burn than you can pay for the TomTom plus service that connects via your phone (bluetooth) onto GPRS and download the real time updates. Well money for data transfer, money to TomTom Plus and essentially only a slightly better service than the TMC. Shoving money down the drain is...

tomtom 510, worth upgrading from the 500....?
Advantages: pre-loaded speed cameras, ipod control, bluetooth hands-free, accessories, screen quality
Disadvantages: fiddly stand, bulky.
...Have owned a TomTom 500 for the past 18 months or so, and have recently decided to upgrade to the 510. so, was it worth it?Well in my honest opinion, not really....here's why
The new bracket is much harder to attach to your windscreen, and removing the tomtom from the stand is now a two hand job.
The TomTom often partly detaches from the stand whilst driving, causing the tomtom to shut down as it loses power, because it thinks you ignition has been turned off. (however, this has since been solved by upgrading to version 6.011 through the tomtom website, by disabling this feature!!!)
On the flip side...........
the machine is wider, however this is due to the fantastic quality widescreen that has been provided. although still hard to see in bright light.
the bluetooth handsfree is better.
it says it has a better aerial. but...

TomTom GO 520
Advantages: Easy to use, large screen
Disadvantages: Traffic alerts, recognition of speed limits
...The TomTom Go 520 has a good size screen and is very easy to use. Its packed with features and my favourite is the bluetooth connection to your mobile, even allowing the extraction of numbers contained within your phone book (its handy to note you can duplicate your phone book onto the TomTom, meaning a back up of your phone contacts). When making a call the sound quality is pretty good. The navigation is easy to use and I have had no problem with GPS signal (unlike my previous sat nav). It identifies safety cameras and also alerts you if you are breaking the speed limit, however this feature is also the only drawback I have found. Occasionally it will get the speed limit you are in wrong (the other day I was on a dual carriage and it instead the speed limit was 30m.p.h.). It comes with an RDS reciever for traffic alerts, although...

TomTom really have the market sussed
Advantages: Great customisation features, big clear screen, easy to use
Disadvantages: Battery life, no wall charger included
...believe you can attach headphones to it so not to attract attention to yourself with the spoken instructions!
This versions of the TomTom includes the latest maps of the UK & Ireland. You can get some TomTom's which have maps of Europe in them, but as I'm not planning on road trip around Europe anytime soon I went for the UK & Ireland version. Another big factor on choosing this one was the fact that the Europe edition was £80 more expensive at the time & after checking just now I noticed they haven't changed in price as I presumed they would have done either.
The TomTom Go 520 has a 4.3" touch screen, this is bigger than a lot of the competition brands of sat nav & one more reason I went for the TomTom. The touch screen is very easy to use & extremely responsive. You don't need one of those special pens like I've seen with other sat...

The Tom Tom GO 510
Advantages: Nice size screen.
Disadvantages: Windscreen mount is weak.
...I bought my Tom Tom 510 in August 2006. The display is excellent and the instructions very clear. The things I like best are the way you can use your mobile phone straight through the unit using Bluetooth. It gives you complete handsfree operation using it's built in microphone and speaker. You can even download your mobiles phone book for on screen calling.
All instructions and maps for UK and main roads in Europe are clear and precise and have the advantage of selecting your destination by full address or post code, but beware they don't update maps for free and they also don't include places past Germany like Poland, although it is listed on there web site as included.
You get software for your p.c so you can add bits to the memory card e.g voices, speed cameras, low bridges, Fast food resturants e.t.c. It is worth searching...

TomTom Go910 The best GPS on the market
Advantages: fast, accurate, great support, tons of worthwhile features
Disadvantages: bit ugly and bulky
...I ended up getting the TomTom 910 as a result of a crap experience with the Navman 720. Best mistake I ever made!
The TomTom was recommended to me by several people but I wentmy own way and bought the Navman 720. I like the looks of it and the inbuilt camera. I had nothing but problems. In the end, the company I bought it from offered me the pick of the GPS systems they sold - after much research I chose the 910.
Whereas the Navman would take upto 3 or 4 minutes to get a full signal where we live, the 910 picks up its signal within a minute. It's ability to say road numbers and street names is very useful but using this means you can't use te many available celebrity voices. I would love to try them but like the usefulness of the computerized voice too much.
Another added feature is its bluetooth interaction with your phone. No...

G0 510 lost without you
Advantages: Touch Screen Quick correction
Disadvantages: Mount can be unstable
...The TomTom go 510

Features include

Get up and Go with the Tomtom GO 500
Advantages: Easy to update, user friendly, full postcode search, bluetooth, hands free
Disadvantages: occasional 'dead' moments, occasional strange routes
...I bought the Tomtom Go 500 the week it came out. At this point Satnavs were a luxury rather than an everyday item that most cars seem to posess these days.
I had decided on Tomtom based on the fact that they seems to have good reviews of their previous models and they were a lot cheaper than the competition, though at £469 I still wouldnt call it cheap.
--Whats in the box --
On opening the box, once you have delved deep enough to get past the various manuals, you will come to the main tomtom unit. the mounting cradle which will fix the tomtom to your windscreen, a 256mb SD card pre installed with software and maps, a mains adaptor with British and European plugs, an in car charger, a wallet to put the tomtom in when not in use, a USB cable to connect to your PC and some screen wipes. In order to get up and running, you only...

TomTom To the Rescue
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
...need to do is slide the TomTom on the mount by using what can only be described as a slot.
The main reason you get satellite navigation is for directions so I'll talk about that first. Once you turn the machine on and your current position is found (which takes no more than about 15 seconds from pressing the on button to your position being found) then you need to put in your destination. This can either be done by putting in the postcode or manually finding the street. Once you do this the TomTom will calculate your route and confirm it to you. Once this is done then you are up and ready to go. It's as simple as that. As you travel it also gives out information via the speaker such as an upcoming turn or a speed camera ahead. This information is very useful and gives you plenty of warning of what to do. It will tell you when you need to...

Tom Tom Go Gets Better
Advantages: Easy to use, clear and concise directions, also acts as a hands free kit
Disadvantages: none
...The TomTom GO 510 gives clear concise directions accompanied by a map marked with the route you are following which comes in handy for those mini roundabouts that don't register on the map.
Put in your destination by selecting a favourite (a place pre-defined by you), an address (can be done by postcode or street address) a town or a point of interest and TomTom will get you there. You can select which way you want to go (shortest, quickest, etc) and what time you want to be there. If for any reason you want / need to go a different way mid-journey TomTom can do that for you too. If you need to go to several places in one journey you can use the itinary planner to do that.
This series of the TomTom GO lets you know what the speed limit is on some roads and lets you know when you are exceeding it.
The widescreen makes the images...
