TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! Very impressed with Tom Tom Go

The enclosed CDROM contained drivers to allow use of the unit with Windows 98, but I have not tested this yet. My main concern is that presumably the maps will soon go out of date as new roads are built. There does not seem to be any free or low cost method to update the maps - Tom Tom's website quotes ?149 (approx UK£100) for each map on SD RAM card, which I think is a bit pricey. I'd like to see Tom Tom making revised maps available for less than this to registered users. Of course they may have already adopted this policy and I just don't know about it as I'm a new user! ...I'll be completely honest with you, I really can't praise this product enough, TomTom seem to have come up with a little cracker! I don't actually own one of these units, but I do work in a shop that sells them, so I can pass on my experience and opinions to you. The TomTom Go (in case you haven't read the description, or don't really know what it is) is a self contained in-car satellite navigation system. In my opinion it beats all the other currently available solutions hands down, simply due to it's style, ease of use and value for money. Advantages: Easy to use, large screen

...The TomTom Go 520 has a good size screen and is very easy to use. Its packed with features and my favourite is the bluetooth connection to your mobile, even allowing the extraction of numbers contained within your phone book (its handy to note you can duplicate your phone book onto the TomTom, meaning a back up of your phone contacts). When making a call the sound quality is pretty good. The navigation is easy to use and I have had no problem with GPS signal (unlike my previous sat nav). It identifies safety cameras and also alerts you if you are breaking the speed limit, however this feature is also the only drawback I have found. Occasionally it will get the speed limit you are in wrong (the other day I was on a dual carriage and it instead the speed limit was 30m.p.h.). The Tom Tom Go Navigation

Advantages: The visual is great, lots of voices to choose from and easy to use.
Disadvantages: It's not completely updated with new roads and doesn't accept all postcodes

...I decided to buy the Tom Tom navigational system because the company I work for bought one for the use on company cars. At first I thought it was a little bulky but that turned out to be an advantage because you need to be able to see the screen clearly. It also sticks to the car interior without falling off which is another big bonus. The voices are also very good as they speak clearly authough some are american which means they will use different words to us brits, but if you insist on having this voice it is easily understood. It can be turned off so don't threat if you find it irritating. However, the tom tom did get a little confused by new roads so its not 100% accurate. It also refused to accept a postcode that I entered so I had to use a map which defeated the purpose. I have only found this problem on one route out...

...need to do is slide the TomTom on the mount by using what can only be described as a slot. The main reason you get satellite navigation is for directions so I'll talk about that first. Once you turn the machine on and your current position is found (which takes no more than about 15 seconds from pressing the on button to your position being found) then you need to put in your destination. This can either be done by putting in the postcode or manually finding the street. Once you do this the TomTom will calculate your route and confirm it to you. Once this is done then you are up and ready to go. It's as simple as that. As you travel it also gives out information via the speaker such as an upcoming turn or a speed camera ahead. TomTom really have the market sussed

Advantages: Great customisation features, big clear screen, easy to use
Disadvantages: Battery life, no wall charger included

...believe you can attach headphones to it so not to attract attention to yourself with the spoken instructions! This versions of the TomTom includes the latest maps of the UK & Ireland. You can get some TomTom's which have maps of Europe in them, but as I'm not planning on road trip around Europe anytime soon I went for the UK & Ireland version. Another big factor on choosing this one was the fact that the Europe edition was £80 more expensive at the time & after checking just now I noticed they haven't changed in price as I presumed they would have done either. The TomTom Go 520 has a 4.3" touch screen, this is bigger than a lot of the competition brands of sat nav & one more reason I went for the TomTom. Tom Tom go works well

...I bought my TomTom Go after having seen my brother's and spending 30minutes trying to find a hospital and then finding I was only yards from it. It is a true one box solution, you only need to unpack and insert the SD card. Uk maps are preinstalled, and Europe data comes on a CD. The screen gives by default a 3D birds eye view, and it is easy to follow what it means. The voice is very clear, although if you have the radio on you may need to turn it up a bit. You can also have German, French, Swedish and others, so if you are learning a foreign language you can practice. Generally the unit finds a satellite lock in 1-2 minutes. The map is not perfect, and some of the details are out of date so you have to use your intelligence a little :-) There is one junction near me on a dual carriageway where it tells me to go right when it shows...
