Advantages: Easy to Use, Cheap with All the Functions you really Need
Disadvantages: Being Told to Keep Right on Motorways. Can be Distracting.

TomTom Go910 The best GPS on the market

Advantages: fast, accurate, great support, tons of worthwhile features

...I ended up getting the TomTom 910 as a result of a crap experience with the Navman 720. Best mistake I ever made! The TomTom was recommended to me by several people but I wentmy own way and bought the Navman 720. I like the looks of it and the inbuilt camera. I had nothing but problems. In the end, the company I bought it from offered me the pick of the GPS systems they sold - after much research I chose the 910. Whereas the Navman would take upto 3 or 4 minutes to get a full signal where we live, the 910 picks up its signal within a minute. It's ability to say road numbers and street names is very useful but using this means you can't use te many available celebrity voices. OK, that?s just my stupidity, but after replacing my unit I decided that to ensure it was easy to carry around and would act as a subtle reminder I would buy a carry case. Looking around for the right one is a bit of a mission as there are so many different types available. In the end I opted for the carry case shown at the top of the screen mainly because it looked slightly different, wasn't made from durable plastic and was only £25. TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! Having removed the Miomap programme the TomTom Nav 6 installed quickly and easily and after selecting a few options, was up and running. The selection of only 2 UK voices was very disappointing, and neither really appealed. Navigating to a post code is simple to set up, but I could not preview the route until the unit connected to satellites. I had to exit the navigation screen an select a view map icon to see anything. Typing in a town name is predictive, letting you select a town really easily. Menu navigation is easy with nice large icons and a maximum of 6 to a screen. ...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2. I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to. The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. Advantages: Great customisation features, big clear screen, easy to use

...believe you can attach headphones to it so not to attract attention to yourself with the spoken instructions! This versions of the TomTom includes the latest maps of the UK & Ireland. You can get some TomTom's which have maps of Europe in them, but as I'm not planning on road trip around Europe anytime soon I went for the UK & Ireland version. Another big factor on choosing this one was the fact that the Europe edition was £80 more expensive at the time & after checking just now I noticed they haven't changed in price as I presumed they would have done either. The TomTom Go 520 has a 4.3" touch screen, this is bigger than a lot of the competition brands of sat nav & one more reason I went for the TomTom.
