The case is in a dark grey colour, which seems to match most car interiors. It comes with a 3.5 inch LCD screen. The battery is designed to last two hours, like the rest of them. Normally the unit is trickle charged while in use, but not of course if you are on foot. All the information is installed onto an SD card, you can add to this from a PC, or a DVD. There is also a lot of Michelin type things, like Hotel and restaurant recommendations from the Michelin guide. One small possible snag, is that the unit is not compatable with Mac PCs. ...I purchased this product just over a year ago, and have had no problems what-so-ever. The tomtom GO 500 has an easy touch-screen navagational display, in which you can enter an address, postcode and its GPS will direct you to the location whereever you may be. You can also set your home address in, and wherever you are, if you click home, it will find the fastest route home for you, and direct you there, not to mention telling you how far away you are, estimated time of arrival, and will also give you the option if you want the route to include toll roads or not. The tomtom GO 500 will naturate your directions outloud on its built in speaker. The TomTom Go 500 can also direct you to whats called a POI (Point Of Interest) which can things such as nearest petrol station, nearest hotel, resturant, nightclub, supermarket etc... Read review

...The Tom-Tom GO 500 offers a lot of functions for what it costs. the screen is of a good size, and it has a crisp, clear picture. the touch screen capability allows you to quickly and easily navigate the menu and select the many options. the GPS it uses is very up to date and as yet, it hasn't directed us down a road that no longer goes where we are headed. however, the Tom-Tom does take a while to adjust its navigations and will persitently try and make you turn around when possible, which can get rather annoying. however, as this only generally happens when you choose shortcuts as you know where you are going, it is not generally a problem, as you don't need a GPS system to get you to the local shops do you? The Tom-Tom now features an extra memory card slot, which i assume allows you to update the map, which is handy, it also allows... Read review

...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare. TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors. ...I have been using GPS systems for 2 years now, and have used various manufacturers solutions. Without a doubt TomTom is the simplest to use and operate - its touch screen and simple menu layout hide a complex and advanced GPS system. It is more accurate in my experience then its rivals, has more up to date maps, and has the ability to be extended should you have the desire! You can download Points of Interest (POI) files from various websites, TomTom included and copy these to the memory card that sits in the bottom of the device. Once there these will add various things to the maps such as the location of speed cameras or tube stations, restaurants or country walks. A good source of these files is www.pocketgpsworld.com although free registration is required. The speed camera database is updated monthly and does require a subscription... Read review

...Have owned a TomTom 500 for the past 18 months or so, and have recently decided to upgrade to the 510. so, was it worth it?Well in my honest opinion, not really....here's why The new bracket is much harder to attach to your windscreen, and removing the tomtom from the stand is now a two hand job. The TomTom often partly detaches from the stand whilst driving, causing the tomtom to shut down as it loses power, because it thinks you ignition has been turned off. (however, this has since been solved by upgrading to version 6.011 through the tomtom website, by disabling this feature!!!) On the flip side........... the machine is wider, however this is due to the fantastic quality widescreen that has been provided. although still hard to see in bright light. the bluetooth handsfree is better. it says it has a better aerial. but i never... ...After recently owning a SPV C500 smartphone from Orange and a bluetooth GPS unit, I decided that an ideal secondary task for a mobile phone would be a GPS unit with TomTom. When I heard that there was a mobile phone coming out that was not only a fully featured smartphone but also had a built-in GPS unit, I was quick off the mark to get one on a contract from Vodaphone. The unit comes installed with Windows Mobile 2005 (not to be confused with Windows Smartphone, they are very different) and the usual host of tools to use the features of the phone. The phone has a screen that takes up most of the phones front with good clarity and quick refresh, although can be a little hard to read in sunlight and almost impossible in strong direct sunlight.
