Brilliant device TomTom ONE XL

Advantages: easy to use, nifty features
Disadvantages: annoying voiceover

...Introduction: Now I'm not the most tech-savvy of people, nor is my knowledge of GPS systems great as I'm a new driver, but I thought I'd give writing a review for this little wonder a go as it's taken me from South Wales to the North West and back in one piece... and on more than one occasion (and if you've seen me driving, you'd know this was a miracle eg. Versatile Road Cat - Tomtom XL Europe.

Advantages: fast, upgradeable, reliable, robust, costumisable, portable and much more
Disadvantages: confuses speeds at times, battery power loss while switched off

...knowing what I know now, after all it as accurate more than 95% of the time and when it is not it does get me close enough to figure location out, auto corrects if I make a trajectory error and is quite fast at doing this, very versatile and always up to date with all the updates, shame that some things that should be relatively cheap TomTom wants to charge a fortune...anyway that another subject not the devices fault lol. hope this helps you guys make your mind up ...BUY IT you won't regret it ...but be aware is not perfect ...most things are not perfect anyway....just put John Clees voice and you'll be happy PLEASE if you took the time to read, spend one ,more second and rate it....

TomTom One XL. It just Exels!

Advantages: Easy to use, incredible detail
Disadvantages: None to speak of, really.

...at dirrections? In a word, Excellent! But I would temper that with one bad experience. It sent us to a ski hill via a road that is closed in winter! A bit of a let down, but the only bad experience in 2,300KM of driving over 10 days. So, a wholehearted recommendation. Its a great driving aid. I think it improves safety too, because there really is no need to be making sudden dirrection changes when you spot a sign at the last second! TomTom gives you clear and consise dirrections before and during route deviations. I love it!!...

...of this idea however, is the fact that it would be a visual target for muggers, I suppose you can't win them all. The RRP is a whopping £19.99, although it is good quality, I suspect it is not actually worth this, and you can buy cheaper on the t'internet. . You have several other cheaper alternatives, you could go for a non brand name, or you could support your local charity shop and buy an old camera case - I am perfectly serious, you would have more choice of styles and colours, and you girls could co-ordinate your outfit with a choice of "designer" named camera cases. OR you could buy one from Tomtom, using vouchers. These are given away free with Tomtoms, and can be used to purchase any accessory, including cases. You will find that most vouchers are thrown away, or appear on ebay for 99p, most not even getting a single bid, so...

Disadvantages: Being Told to Keep Right on Motorways. Can be Distracting.

...Great little unit. This piece of kit is a lifesaver. Not only can it help you with directions but I'm sure it will save more marriages than coucilling. No more arguing over poor directions or where to go. The system has many useful functions. 1. Basic GPS - To get from A to B. This can be via postcode, location name etc. Generally very good just get to the area you know and let the TomTom take you from their. See downside point 2. 2. Points of interest - Can include anything from restuarants & cinenas to your local funeral dirctor - Many free sites to download from. 3. Speed camera details. 4. Speedo - My 2002 Mondeo underclocks by about 10% and I've only just noticed so I can now get everywhere 10% quicker without worrying about speeding - This is Great news. 5. Updates from TomTom webside including map corections...

The only ONE you'll need!

Advantages: Signal strength is excellent; Price; Look; Ease of use

... INTRO I do quite a lot of driving, and therefore owning a Sat Nav is an essential part of my life. I also find them helpful when out and about in places I'm visiting, so I can quickly locate a supermarket or a restaurant. After owning a fairly old TomTom for a few years, it was having some problems with charging, and instead of sending it away to get fixed etc, I decided to buy a new one altogether. I am quite loyal to TomTom's - I once bought a Binatone Sat Nav as a spare (it was cheap in a sale), which was absolutely useless and ended up being returned to the store for a refund - and find that the useless Binatone enables me to make comparisons with my new TomTom to other models. I purchased my TomTom ONE Classic from Argos for around the £130 mark, which is a good price. You can buy several Sat Nav's for a lot cheaper...

...I brought this as a gift for my mother last christmas as she doesn't often drive to far and, like me, is slightly geographically challenged Purchase and Price --------------------------- I brought the tom tom from Tesco, at the time I had a voucher for £50 off voucher which made it only £99 in price, very reasonable I feel for a sat nav. I did have quite a few problems with the ordering and collection of item, but thats a whole other Tesco review! The XL One comes in a pack with a small black pouch case, which is fastened by velcro, a mains charger, an in car charge (to be plugged into the lighter switch in the car) and the holder/stand that suctions the Sat Nav to the wind screen. Also Included in the price was a £10 online redeemable voucher, which can be used to purchase a different case or celebrity voice overs for those...

...The Tom Tom ONE XL Europe is one of the easiest car navigation devices to use. It is mostly self explainatry but if you are unsure how to use it, the manual is very specific and very easy to understand. In my opinion the actual software that is installed on it is excellent. When driving, it is easy to follow all of the instruction that are being said by the automated voice. The one concern with this product is the very short battery life and sometimes, when it has been previously been connected to the computer to install updates, the system gets stuck and freezes. It has to be reset for it to function properly again and then it takes up to ten minutes!! There are many options that you can choose when planning your route so you drive the route that is most suitable for you. Other than the one disadvantage, it is a very good car navigation...

A no nonsense sat nav unit with great features

Advantages: Size, cost, features, display, windscreen mount
Disadvantages: Out dated information, power lead inflexible, poor battery performance

...I was looking for a no nonsense sat nav unit that was small enough to fit inside a jacket pocket when not used. Tom Tom had just introduced the basic 'One' model with the new XL (extra large) screen. It came with a car based power lead, USB lead, CD, manual, SD card with UK & Ireland on it & what I thought at first was a rather flimsy windscreen mount but no slip cover. The flimsy looking mount has turned out to be quite fantastic, once attached to the screen it holds the device rock solid & can be difficult to remove!! Even when driving over rough roads the unit never shakes or vibrates & I don't feel the need to upgrade to a more durable mount. The sat nav unit very quickly finds a decent reception & entering a location is made easy with a choice of a post code or address. There is only one switch on the unit for switching it on & off...
