...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. ...... The map of Western Europe comes as a DVD which you download to your Tomtom, this is done using the free programme called Tomtom home. You then are able to use your Tomtom one, Tomtom Rider, or any of the Tomtom Go series in Europe. The map in this review is version 6.5, this is the latest version out, and is pretty much up to date. Contents - In the box you will find, the latest version 6.5 software on DVD, containing very detailed instructions, voice prompt files and Tomtom home, also in the box are the warranty leaflet, (the warranty is for one year) a simple installation poster, and the product code card (you will need to go online to activate this, see www.ttcode.com) Type of format - as stated the DVD is put into your PC, which in turn is downloaded to the Tomtom.There are some nice & easy to see graphics... ...in your trip, etc. You can customize it to 'speak' in many different languages including English, Dutch, Portuguese, French and many others. Furthermore, you can also set the map with different colour schemes, which is very handy when driving at night so the colours are a bit less bright. Other additional features (you need to pay for this) let you know the weather of your destination in advance, the traffic of your route, make phone calls if your device allows you and many others. The advantage of this over the main Tomtom unit is that it has maps for the whole of the Western Europe. Advantages: Detailed, easy to use

...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2. I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to. The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. ...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare. TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors. ...how much is free and needles to say I was disappointed that the 256MB has no space to put a pin in there left. The maps of GB and MRE of Europe are marvellous and do a spectacular job but for £300 they could at least put a 512 MB card. Basically you want to enter an extra voice which TomTom rather cheekily charges the best part of a fiver to get John Cleese being daft with directions and suddenly you get a honking noise that you run out of space (and is only 900 kb). In the days of 256MB SD cards being small change TomTom could have been feeling a bit more generous. Also the same feels for downloaded POIs no space left so I was left, having to shell out more to actually have fun with an expensive product. I recommend that you buy a 2GB card (TomTom will take up to 4GB but these are dear at the moment) which will hold all the maps... Read review

...I think this is a great software as it can turn a pda into a navigator. I bought this product just before christmas because I was going to france it took me through with absolutely no probelems! My son has got a garmin which he does not use because it always directs him wrong. It is easy to use with the latest technology. I would recomend this to anyone but don't go for a garmin. This is the most reliable resonable navagator I have used. This also has speed camera detection and poi's. It is very user friendly with over 5 languages to chose from also there is a lot of thing you can add on to your navagator like george bush's voice or more poi's. The tomtom also offers you traffic notifications for an annual price. Don't go for phonys go for tomtom!... Read review

...TomTom Map of the USA and Canada Maps TomTom Maps are a 2gb SD card with route maps stored on them that are made to work with the TomTom satellite navigation system. They originally come with UK/Europe maps so these are a brilliant upgrade if you are considering taking your car abroad or hiring a car and driving over there. These are a lot easier than using a standard map when you are visiting another country and make getting around easy. We have just bought one of these as we are planning a trip to the USA and decided one of these would be useful. I have never been abroad so certainly wont know my way around. It was very easy to install onto the TomTom. We also decided the points of interest feature would be really useful as we use the UK based one on our current maps a lot. Most of them do work but lots of people call tomtom customer services to sort it out (usually because they havent formatted it) and it gums the phones up so I guess its a hassle that tomtom don't need. *** SD memory allows uses to move illegal map software more easily. The GB map edition has a 512MB internal memory and the UK plus Europe mapping has a 1GB internal memory. This already restricts the cheaper 512MB users from hacking the 907mb file needed to obtain complete Europe usage. Now all is not lost, most of you V3 GB users want to know if you could eventually upgrade legally (for ~£41) or otherwise to detailed maps of France plus major roads of western Europe, seeing as we all like hopping over to France. The file is 335MB and the pre installed UK maps takes about 210MB plus to make matters worse the tomtom only... Read review
