TomTom Navigator 6

Advantages: Detailed, easy to use
Disadvantages: Slow (but this could just be my phone)

...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2. I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to. The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. You need tom-toms to find your way

Advantages: Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction.
Disadvantages: Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.

...On the basis of good reviews I bought Navigator 6 Western Europe (Nav 6) for my PDA to replace an ageing Miomap programme. Having removed the Miomap programme the TomTom Nav 6 installed quickly and easily and after selecting a few options, was up and running. The selection of only 2 UK voices was very disappointing, and neither really appealed. Navigating to a post code is simple to set up, but I could not preview the route until the unit connected to satellites. I had to exit the navigation screen an select a view map icon to see anything. Typing in a town name is predictive, letting you select a town really easily. Menu navigation is easy with nice large icons and a maximum of 6 to a screen. TOMTOM UK MAPS Re-written . .

Advantages: Easy to keep with TOMTOM at all times.
Disadvantages: Easy to lose if not in safe stowage.

...After using this product myself for nine months now, I feel I am qualified to write this report. These maps are very easy to load into the Tomtom, (they load in a few moments) easy to use, show just about everything you need to navigate with ease There are some very easy to see graphics, and the colours are just about right for all light conditions. The display is very clear, and unaffected by sunlight. It is easy to see in all conditions. The price does appear a little on the high side at the moment, however, I suspect it will drop as soon as it starts selling like "hot cakes" as I am sure it will do very soon. The only fault I can think of, is the ease of losing it, due to the size, however, I find that used film containers are perfect for things like this. The blank cards are cheap enough to buy...

TomTom Western Europe, let Jane take the strain.

Advantages: Stress free travelling, comprehensive, clear instructions, cheap
Disadvantages: Some very minor glitches in confusing bends with turns

...or navigating town centres (Limoges, Sarlat etc.) can be daunting to say the least, not with Jane (oops, TomTom Western Europe). It is very hard to think of any negatives, the only one, and not such a biggie, is that sometimes she (Jane) tells you to turn right or left when really it is only a bend, or bear left or right when it is a turn. On the way home we decided to avoid Paris and go by night, no problem, night time settings dim the map, and rural roads are no problem. For our next trip we intend to go into Spain from France and we have no doubt that TomTom will deal adequately. If anyone is getting a TomTom, buy the Western Europe map, it will save you its cost on one trip, in petrol, maps and above all, stress, how on earth did we manage without?...

TomTom - slow, large but still simple BEST

...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare. TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors. One more thing that is not a plus for TomTom is the space required for maps. The other software has...

...I think this is a great software as it can turn a pda into a navigator. I bought this product just before christmas because I was going to france it took me through with absolutely no probelems! My son has got a garmin which he does not use because it always directs him wrong. It is easy to use with the latest technology. I would recomend this to anyone but don't go for a garmin. This is the most reliable resonable navagator I have used. This also has speed camera detection and poi's. It is very user friendly with over 5 languages to chose from also there is a lot of thing you can add on to your navagator like george bush's voice or more poi's. The tomtom also offers you traffic notifications for an annual price. Don't go for phonys go for tomtom!...

...Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet. Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either by credit or debit card, and the down load commenced. Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer. Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest....
