TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module
Advantages: good
Disadvantages: none
...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes.
The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong.
It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! It does link...

Tomtom - just in case! . . .
Advantages: Protects.
Disadvantages: None.
...First the technical stuff, the case is made of plastic, ethylene-vinyl acetate actually, which is a form of soft thermoplastic, including recycled materials, so you could say you are doing your bit for the environment. The outer covering is hardwearing Nylon.
The carry case comes complete with a wrist strap, although personally I would not trust it. It has an improved zip, apparently the old one was prone to jamming. The picture Ciao have put up is of the old model, the new one is very similar, just a little more subtle.
These cases are a good idea for keeping dust and scratches at bay, however, it may have been a better idea if the case was fitted with belt loops, so you could carry it on your belt, or a strap like binoculars have, rather than risk it slipping out of your pocket, or even leaving it in the car. The downside...

TomTom One GPS
Advantages: Easy to Use, Cheap with All the Functions you really Need
Disadvantages: Being Told to Keep Right on Motorways. Can be Distracting.
.... You only need to say when to get off. Don't think there is much you can do about this and trust be it really starts to be annoying on a long journey.
5. Battery Life - Not great. Make sure you always carry an in car charge (which is supplied luckily).
6. Not always acurate. I was happily driving on the A1 when all of a sudden accordingy to the TomTom I was doing 70 in a 30 and it went crazy at me. If I had braked at this point I would have caused a huge pile up and certainly would not have been here to write the review.
7. Very tempting to play the game of beat the estimated time of arival - Not good for your licence.
From the above you would probably think I really hate the system - Well I don't. Its one of the most useful things I've ever purchased. No more stopping at the side of a road and picking up a map. Being male I...

The best GPS receiver I have seen yet!
Advantages: Tiny, appealling, accurate, powerful and desirable.
Disadvantages: Rubber cover for DC power supply breaks off easily.
...I've been using GPS for a couple of years now. I started with the GPS kit for the Compaq iPAQ series - the one that attaches to the iPAQ as a jacket.
This had given me a couple of serious 'downers' about GPS, which nearly prevented me buying GPS again.
Firstly, my old device was unable to hold and lock onto a signal through my heated front car windscreen, meaning that I'd had to buy a re-radiating antenna. Secondly, the device was next to useless for walking or hiking, because it kept disconnecting from the iPAQ.
I'd seen, and wanted one of the TomTom bluetooth devices, but, seeing as they were going for around £85, was reluctant to invest. I kept on checking eBay and other sources over a period of about 8 months, and saw, continually, the TomTom device, along with a whole host of cheaper (and, to be honest, not very pretty...

A no nonsense sat nav unit with great features
Advantages: Size, cost, features, display, windscreen mount
Disadvantages: Out dated information, power lead inflexible, poor battery performance
...I was looking for a no nonsense sat nav unit that was small enough to fit inside a jacket pocket when not used. Tom Tom had just introduced the basic 'One' model with the new XL (extra large) screen. It came with a car based power lead, USB lead, CD, manual, SD card with UK & Ireland on it & what I thought at first was a rather flimsy windscreen mount but no slip cover. The flimsy looking mount has turned out to be quite fantastic, once attached to the screen it holds the device rock solid & can be difficult to remove!! Even when driving over rough roads the unit never shakes or vibrates & I don't feel the need to upgrade to a more durable mount. The sat nav unit very quickly finds a decent reception & entering a location is made easy with a choice of a post code or address. There is only one switch on the unit for switching it on & off...

GPS extraordinaire
Advantages: Very fast connection speeds
Disadvantages: None
...After purchasing a Pocket PC (HP hx4700) mainly for use as a calender assistant and portable web browsing device, I soon discovered that it could also be used as a portable Sat Nav device as well, allowing applications such as Tomtom to be uploaded onto it, and for those who are interested in light aircraft flying, like me, memory map is fantastic aviation GPS program which can be used on using actual CAA aviation maps with GPS data overlay for flight planning and tracking purposes. The one extra hardware add-on which is needed to allow tomtom and memory map to function is a GPS receiver device. I had previously purchased a Compact Flash card extension GPS receiver which plugged into the Pocket PC's existing ports directly, unfortunately, it was very poor at satellite tracking and position locking, taking several minutes to lock-on to...

Terrible experiences with this Sat Nav
Advantages: Easy to set up, easy to use
Disadvantages: loss of signal, lack of POIs, marks many roads unknown
...I recently tried to use this Sat Nav system whilst on holiday in the Algarve, Portugal. NOT ONCE did it find us where we wanted to go. Problems we had:
1. Most roads, even the main road between PT and spain where marked as unknown.
2. often drove us to the middle of a construction site and said there was a beach there.
3. continuously fell off the windscreen
4. Sometimes lost satellite signal at the most critical time for up to 10 minutes.
However, now realizing its low price it is probably understandable. Maybe in the UK, this system works better but it is certainly a TERRIBLE system to use in Iberia.
There were a few good things to point out:
1. Easy to set up
2. Easy to use.
However, this only brings it up to a poor rating simply because it couldn't perform its basic function of finding us directions.
In...

Great GPS receiver
Advantages: light, portable, good reception, accutate
Disadvantages: none
...A slim GPS Receiver that connect to your device using 'Bluetooth' a handy product that will enable your smartphone or windows mobile phone to connect to the GPS satalite network for trip guidence and other similar sat-nav tasks.
I have used this with my O2 XDA mini phone and found it to be very reliable. I loaded the Destinator sat-nav software onto my phone, launched the application and swithched on the Holux receiver and once i had set up the pairing in my phone it was good to go!
Reception was excellent and accuracy very good. In fact because it is so portable i was able to compare it with my friends Pergout car's factory fitted sat-nav and it beat it for accuracy hands down.
I also use it with some Geocaching software for paperless caching - look up Geocaching on google if you want to know what it is?
Some phones now have...

TOMTOM one great while it worked
Advantages: quick and easy to set up ,fast GPS pick up
Disadvantages: breaks way too easily
...On buying my Tomtom one i was very excited and also a little disapointed with the size of the box, i purchased a TomTom one v4 europe with traffic updates.
The set up was very simple no CD to mess about with and put in my "Man Draw" never to be seen again all the software for your pc is on the unit itself just plug the usb lead in and away you go.
The new easy mount part is truly rubbish you click the unit into it and unless you get this right it will pop out, now bearing in ming you will be doing this on a windscreen of a car and if you have a car like mine a Ford Galaxy the windscreen is a mile away and proved fiddley to mount correctly also the USB leas from the charger just doesnt want to go in the hole so you have to take it off again and plug it in then try and snap the unit back into its mount fine on a nice cool day but not...

Spice up your Sat Nav
Advantages: Improves reception, loading time is dramatically reduced, Much better accuracy
Disadvantages: plating is wearing off the connector
...and finally brought forward to the dashboard with a couple of feet to spare. The antenna itself is a small plastic box with a strong magnet on the bottom, so theer is no fixing to worry about.
I plugged the lead into the Sat Nav and switched on. In a couple of seconds it was displaying "Ready to Navigate"
Since then, about 10 days ago, I have covered over 2,000 miles and have not lost reception once, including the wooded section of the A350 just north of Shaftesbury in Dorset, where I always lost signal for about 2 miles.
I have noticed some of the plating wearing off the plug, exposing bare plastic.
This is because It is not a good idea to leave the SAT NAV in the car when parked, so I have to take the cable out if I park somewhere dodgy, like city centres. I must say that this does not appear to have affected performance.
It...
