You do need to use the in car charger if going any distance, but its easy enough to use. The sucker is very quick to put in place, and also take down again. I like that you can have places of special interest, like petrol stations showing. Especially useful when going to an area that is remote (like parts of Wales and Scotland) so you have an idea of where a station is. I have two memory cards, simply to ensure I always have a back up since all information is on the one card. Route options are good, with more than just the quickest option available. ...to get one and they were out of my price range but in August 2007 V2 got a price cut and V3 entered the market cheaper than ever at around £140/150, or now a bargain at £132.00 as shown above. It was a little steep for me but because the features all seemed so worthwhile I had to get it. Tomtom have kept choosing simple with all the features on the ONE being the same as the ONE XL (just has a bigger screen) and also you can get one with Europe maps and one with GB. So there are four straight versions, easy (minus the expensive tomtoms higher up the range which have features most of us wont use). The other advantage of picking a tomtom is that they are market leaders and they seem to look after there customers, offering easily accessible software upgrades for the unit, decent support and map updates. ...you do, is set up your TomTom with your home address and post code, which is then stored in your device. Then put in the post code where you are going and TomTom does the rest......When you are away from home, all you have to do is set your TomTom to Home and it takes you back there, so easy, even I can manage it!!!!! I recently went to Anglesey in North Wales and I had a bit of trouble finding some of the places, but apart from that I was fine. Everywhere else I have put in has found it no problem and it has made me more confident on the road. You can down load the voice you would like....John Cleese is a really popular one, but there is a small charge for this. If you just select the voices that come with it, then it costs nothing. You can get traffic alerts, but I'm sure this costs, you also need your mobile phone to use... Read review

...The package includes navigation software for Palm 5 PDAs and the Microsoft PocketPC PDAs but you should check which models are supported. I run the Palm version on my Treo650 smartphone. I have to travel around the UK a fair bit for work and also like to tour round the UK and Europe for pleasure. Actually, the main reason I bought the package was to circumvent the possibility of having any navigation arguments with my wife on our honeymoon! We went on a driving holiday from London to Vienna. ...I was bought this for Xmas and I felt like a kid again. The special offer at Curry's brings also a very welcome TomTom traffic module, this is actually just a re branded TMC module (the little green cameras on motorways) and works via RDS but hey on its own is about £60 so why not. Open another box (inside the big one) and you finally you find the TomTom, sitting there looking at you pretty in a nice gleam smile. I was just dying to open it up and try it. Common sense though suggested putting it on charge and playing about with the rest of the gadgets. This is where the first problem arouses. There is no jack to plug the charger in the TomTom and you have to use the dock, which means you have you have a dangling USB cable down in the living room because some genius designer though to make it built in. ...This little toy was possible the biggest revolution to happen to my driving in all the years since I passed my test. I had seen a friend use it and knew I was going to be happy with it. The unit comes supplied with a software package to connect to your pc for updates via the internet, and a usb cable to connect and recharge the unit, and a cigarette lighter so you never run out of power on the move. Once connected to your pc, the unit is fully operational via your computer screen providing you can get a signal indoors, rather than through the tomtom's touch screen until you disconnect it. To be honest, it was that easy to use the first time I turned it on, I couldn't even tell you if it came with a manual or not! The unit is simple, neat and effective.
