...I don't know too much about in-car satellite navigation systems (satnavs, as they call them) and it's not that I have used a number of devices so that I can compare the pros and cons of one against the other. But, I am a very satisfied user of TomTom One and would definitely recommend it to any potential buyer. We bought the TomTom One about 4 months ago and to date, it hasn't given us a chance to regret our decision. The TomTom One is one of the numerous entry-level satnavs in the market, but does not disappoint with its loads of features and reasonable price (We bought ours in Aug 2006 for £199). It has become very popular in the market. ...I got the TOMTOM One from halfords for £179.99, although I am sure there would be a better deal on the net, I haven't been driving for long and hate not knowing how to get where I need to be. I picked a TOMTOM navigator because I had more about them and they were said to be one of the best and very reliable. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and it didn't take long to figure out how to use, its an absolute lifesaver for someone who has no sense of direction (like me!!). ...is at dirrections? In a word, Excellent! But I would temper that with one bad experience. It sent us to a ski hill via a road that is closed in winter! A bit of a let down, but the only bad experience in 2,300KM of driving over 10 days. So, a wholehearted recommendation. Its a great driving aid. I think it improves safety too, because there really is no need to be making sudden dirrection changes when you spot a sign at the last second! TomTom gives you clear and consise dirrections before and during route deviations. I love it!!... Read review

...Having only had my Tomtom one for a short time I now wonder how I got on without it!! There is very little to dislike about the product, in fact my only piece of advice is don't ditch the A-Z just yet as the navigation is not 100% accurate, however this is something common to all GPS not just Tomtom. In general it will navigate me within sight of where I want to be, even if it doesn't get me to the doorstep. On the plus side, the Tomtom has a clear screen showing easy to follow directions. You can also change it to night colours if you find the brightness too distracting. You can also set the map to switch off when driving at top speeds, and just rely on the voice if you are worried about distractions. The voice is very loud, which means you can hear it when driving a top speeds even with the radio on. The functions are easy... Read review

...If you're looking for a cheap sat nav DO NOT buy anything other than this. Tomtoms are so easy to use it's easy to see how they have come to dominate the market and to buy any other brand could easily lead to disappointment. The current Tomtom range includes the ONE at around £220, the GO 510 around £349, the GO 710 around £399 and the GO 910 around £499. (high street retail prices). The ONE is the oldest of these but still offers an incredible sat nav experience in the slimist (albeit ugliest) chassis of the range. Very intuitive menu system and easy to read mapping in both 3D and 2D modes. Option to change maps to look like British maps (ie A roads are red, motorways blue and white etc). ...should be heading for. It has software that is easy to use and allows you to connect to your home computer and update readily. You do need to use the in car charger if going any distance, but its easy enough to use. The sucker is very quick to put in place, and also take down again. I like that you can have places of special interest, like petrol stations showing. Especially useful when going to an area that is remote (like parts of Wales and Scotland) so you have an idea of where a station is. I have two memory cards, simply to ensure I always have a back up since all information is on the one card. Route options are good, with more than just the quickest option available.
