...I Recently replace my Garmin Street pilot unit with a TOM TOM V3 Europe (Traffic edition). I mainly did this because I wanted a low cost traffic solution, and I was able to get this from Halfords for under £170.00 (at the time of purchase) It came complete with the TMC receiver module. Another reason for choosing Tom Tom was how disappointed I was with my Garmin, and how much better my Wife's Tom Tom one original was compared to it. The unit is small and light, and the TMC receiver stays in my car fixed on with suction pads. It has a touch screen, and the menu icons are quite large. However I have thick fingers and I find that the touch pad keyboard screen used for Post codes/addresses is too small and I often get letters/numbers that I havent touched. ...to get one and they were out of my price range but in August 2007 V2 got a price cut and V3 entered the market cheaper than ever at around £140/150, or now a bargain at £132.00 as shown above. It was a little steep for me but because the features all seemed so worthwhile I had to get it. Tomtom have kept choosing simple with all the features on the ONE being the same as the ONE XL (just has a bigger screen) and also you can get one with Europe maps and one with GB. So there are four straight versions, easy (minus the expensive tomtoms higher up the range which have features most of us wont use). The other advantage of picking a tomtom is that they are market leaders and they seem to look after there customers, offering easily accessible software upgrades for the unit, decent support and map updates. ...should be heading for. It has software that is easy to use and allows you to connect to your home computer and update readily. You do need to use the in car charger if going any distance, but its easy enough to use. The sucker is very quick to put in place, and also take down again. I like that you can have places of special interest, like petrol stations showing. Especially useful when going to an area that is remote (like parts of Wales and Scotland) so you have an idea of where a station is. I have two memory cards, simply to ensure I always have a back up since all information is on the one card. Route options are good, with more than just the quickest option available. ...LATEST Tomtom lasted just over a week, then gave up the ghost, took it back to Argos - they were brilliant, was given the offer of my money back, opted for a replacement. This review is on the Tomtom One Version 3, Local only, if you intend adding lots of maps, then go for the Europe version. Having owned and used a Tomtom One, version one for two years, I can recommend them, unfortunately mine developed a fault, and I need one for work, so I ended up buying a new one. I am going through the process of sending my old one in for repair, although this will take time, and will have to be paid for, so may not be an economic repair anyway. If Tomtom do quote too high a price, then there is another alternative, I know of at least one company specialising in the repair of these units, at a more reasonable rate than Tomtom... Read review

...Easily the best Low price GPS on the market. It's small, lightweight, easy to use and doubles up as a bluetooth hands free. Aswell as having customisable voices, an updated speed camera database, thousands of POS's (Points of intrests) it can even avoid traffic jams iether through the Tomtom plus services which work through a bluetooth connection to your bluetooth enabled mobile phone or through a traffic ariel attachment. It's quick and easy to remove from your car and small enough and light enough to carry in your pocket. You can even easily move it between cars using an extra mount saving you from having to unplug everything and re attach the suction cup. You don't have to worry about the device loosing suction and falling to the floor of your car when you go over a bump because the suction cup is tough enough to support... Read review

...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. And if any of you are wondering, YES it does fit in a volvo S60 cup holder, (bet your glad i mentioned that, you would have been thinking all day whether it would) The Touch screen is superb, and the user interface works with it in a way no other Sat Nav could, we got fed up with the PDA with its tiny buttons and having to use a Stylus in order to put in a postcode. TOMTOM boasts a full 6 digit post code search and puts you through the front door of the place your going, im not kidding. As soon as you enter the drive it politely announces that 'you have arrived at your destination' in its rather sexy woman voice, or for the ladies, whatever they please, american man, autrailian man, or even GERMAN MAN that shouts ACHTUNG LEFTZIG TURNUNG AHEADUNDSCHLAF!. (I made that up) All in all, just think when you are browsing for one of these, it IS better... Read review

...I only started driving this year and my sense of direction is poor to put it lightly so I bought a TomTom, I chose the Europe version as the company I work for are based everywhere and it wasn't much more than the standard version. I have been very pleasantly surprised with how accurate the maps are. I thought that obviously all the road maps would be there but I live in an area with tiny little back alleys and short-cuts and TomTom knows them all, and they're all kept up to date too, a new speed camera was fitted and it knew before I did! You have to make sure you keep it regularly updated using the software provided but as long as you do you shouldn't have any problems at all. There's a lot of personable features from the colour of the maps, start-up images, voices etc. but I prefer the factory settings so I don't get... Read review

...This little toy was possible the biggest revolution to happen to my driving in all the years since I passed my test. I had seen a friend use it and knew I was going to be happy with it. The unit comes supplied with a software package to connect to your pc for updates via the internet, and a usb cable to connect and recharge the unit, and a cigarette lighter so you never run out of power on the move. Once connected to your pc, the unit is fully operational via your computer screen providing you can get a signal indoors, rather than through the tomtom's touch screen until you disconnect it. To be honest, it was that easy to use the first time I turned it on, I couldn't even tell you if it came with a manual or not! The unit is simple, neat and effective.
