I bought this Tom Tom as every time I have to go somewhere that I'm not familiar with I get lost!
It cost me £299, which is a lot of money, but as it has the speed camera's on it, it helps me keep a clean licence, so to me its well worth the money. You can get them cheaper if you don't want the camera's on it, but as this was a treat to me I...

Size might not matter but it sure is nice
Review of TomTom ONE XL Europe by
Miskah
Advantages: large good quality TFT LCD touch screen, very simple to use,
Disadvantages: is more expensive
...in the hold of a plane. You don’t have to choose the Europe version as this would be a waste unless you travel there at least yearly. There is a GB version only but with the TomTom Europe you get all the GB street maps plus Ireland as well as Western Europe.
We spent some time talking to staff from Halfords, Comet and a couple of other places plus the internet prior to purchase and the impression we got was that they all felt the TomTom was probably the least complicated of the GPS range to use, which suits me. We did look at the standard and the XL which are the same except for the XL being larger. tthe screen on the XL is 4.3 inches where as the screen on the TomTom one is 3.5-inch .I have narrow long fingers so the small touchscreen size would have been satisfactory but we went for the XL as my husband has bigger fingers and the extra...

The Real Tomtom ONE V3 GB Review
Review of TomTom ONE XL United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland by
NickUK
Advantages: Great features, Price
Disadvantages: None - Maybe battery life, restricted internal memory
...to get one and they were out of my price range but in August 2007 V2 got a price cut and V3 entered the market cheaper than ever at around £140/150, or now a bargain at £132.00 as shown above. It was a little steep for me but because the features all seemed so worthwhile I had to get it.
Tomtom have kept choosing simple with all the features on the ONE being the same as the ONE XL (just has a bigger screen) and also you can get one with Europe maps and one with GB. So there are four straight versions, easy (minus the expensive tomtoms higher up the range which have features most of us wont use). The other advantage of picking a tomtom is that they are market leaders and they seem to look after there customers, offering easily accessible software upgrades for the unit, decent support and map updates.
So which one to choose the new V3...

It tells you where to go. Politely.
Review of TomTom ONE XL Europe by
markd_uk
Advantages: Clear, easy, functional, usable - excellent
Disadvantages: Very little.
...units of old, it actually looks and feels like a more expensive device.
The One XL Europe is exactly the same device as the One Europe – the only difference is the size of the screen. The 4.3 inch screen is a whole 0.8 inches larger than its smaller brother but, as those map-reading ladies are fond of telling you, scale really does matter. The screen is clear and bright and the functions easy to use. Simply touch the screen and you are faced with six large, easy-to-understand on-screen buttons that let you access a plethora of options available to you on your TomTom device.
From the user interface you can configure your preferences, such as screen brightness, colours, volume level (including an ability to increase volume the faster you travel) and many more other, less significant choices. You can also access the Traffic Update...

TomTom ONE V2 Europe
Review of TomTom ONE V2 Europe Navteq by
runetune
Advantages: Easy to use, excellent screen layout, no lag.
Disadvantages: Some options not included, think carefully about which version to use.
...should be heading for.
It has software that is easy to use and allows you to connect to your home computer and update readily.
You do need to use the in car charger if going any distance, but its easy enough to use.
The sucker is very quick to put in place, and also take down again.
I like that you can have places of special interest, like petrol stations showing. Especially useful when going to an area that is remote (like parts of Wales and Scotland) so you have an idea of where a station is.
I have two memory cards, simply to ensure I always have a back up since all information is on the one card.
Route options are good, with more than just the quickest option available. Great if on holiday and you want to go off the beaten track a little bit.
I've tried a couple of other Stat Nav in car systems, and the TomTom is my...

TomTom One XL. It just Exels!
Review of TomTom ONE XL by
NomisG
Advantages: Easy to use, incredible detail
Disadvantages: None to speak of, really.
...is at dirrections?
In a word, Excellent! But I would temper that with one bad experience. It sent us to a ski hill via a road that is closed in winter! A bit of a let down, but the only bad experience in 2,300KM of driving over 10 days.
So, a wholehearted recommendation. Its a great driving aid. I think it improves safety too, because there really is no need to be making sudden dirrection changes when you spot a sign at the last second! TomTom gives you clear and consise dirrections before and during route deviations. I love it!!...

TomTom Domination
Review of TomTom ONE XL United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland by
laptop07
Advantages: Large Screen, Quick route Calculations, Buddy finder, Touchscreen, Speed Camera's
Disadvantages: Battery Life (but just plug it into the car's cig lighter!)
...I have spent along time looking at the Sat Nav market (approx. 12 months) and was really waiting for prices to drop and to get a model to my needs. So far I have this with the TomTom One XL. The best thing for new buyers is that it works straight out the box. No need to pug it into your computer, but put in the destination that you desire and off you go.
The battery life is not brilliant (TomTom state is has a battery life of 2 hours) but can you really complain when you have it in the car and all you have to do is pug it into your cigarette lighter? Which can I remind you is pretty much free energy don’t forget. One negative point would have to be there is no AC power adapter (they can be bought separately), so that you can charge it at home – but then saying that why not just charge it in the car. Wires!! Might think it’s a bit mess...

Take me home
Review of TomTom ONE XL Europe by
thewedge
Advantages: Good build quality, easy to use
Disadvantages: Doesn't always find the best route
...some can receive traffic updates and some can't (be aware if you get one that can do traffic updates it needs a mobile phone to connect to via bluetooth!).
I plumped for this unit (One XL Europe) because the XL comes in the widescreen format which, having used a standard TomTom One on my last European trip, I found quite small (the screen is only 3.5" across. The wider screen is just easier to glance at I've found.
I paid £154 for mine from Halfords and I couldn't find any shops doing them any cheaper.
Upon getting home and opening the box its all well packaged and you are greeted with the unit on the top in a clear protective plastic case. Also in the box is a car charger, car mount, USB cable (will charge the unit from the USB connection on your PC) and a quick start guide/installation CD.
The actual unit is quite light...

Tomtom one V2 Europe
Review of TomTom ONE V2 Europe Navteq by
ace198
Advantages: Full street level maps of europe
Disadvantages: None so far!
...Easily the best Low price GPS on the market.
It's small, lightweight, easy to use and doubles up as a bluetooth hands free.
Aswell as having customisable voices, an updated speed camera database, thousands of POS's (Points of intrests) it can even avoid traffic jams iether through the Tomtom plus services which work through a bluetooth connection to your bluetooth enabled mobile phone or through a traffic ariel attachment.
It's quick and easy to remove from your car and small enough and light enough to carry in your pocket.
You can even easily move it between cars using an extra mount saving you from having to unplug everything and re attach the suction cup.
You don't have to worry about the device loosing suction and falling to the floor of your car when you go over a bump because the suction cup is tough enough to support...

TomTom Western Europe, let Jane take the strain.
Review of TomTom Map of Western Europe Maps by
paulhanton
Advantages: Stress free travelling, comprehensive, clear instructions, cheap
Disadvantages: Some very minor glitches in confusing bends with turns
...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France.
As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update.
Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch.
To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving.
We spent two weeks in the area...
