They originally come with UK/Europe maps so these are a brilliant upgrade if you are considering taking your car abroad or hiring a car and driving over there. These are a lot easier than using a standard map when you are visiting another country and make getting around easy. ...I love our Tomtom! Its been excellent value for money, and very easy to use. My first impression of the unit itself is a nice size, lightweight enough to pop into your pocket and take with you as well as good easy screen to read from. From the moment I switched it on, I liked the whole layout and menu. Icons were easy to read and understand and I even managed to work out what to do to get from the house to my first location without the instruction manual. The voice isn't distracting or unpleasant, and the instructions given are clear, both verbally and from the screen. It has an excellent refresh rate, so that if you do take the wrong turn, or get diverted for any reason it very quickly picks up what you need to do to maintain the correct course! ...would be travelling 8 MPH faster. The big plus is the speed camera warnings. This can save you your license and of course points on the license. At last there is a device that is on your side while on the road, a real friend. I only wish it was available 10 years ago. TomTom sat nav system requires regular upgrades from online. The downloadable file is not too big if you have broadband, though can take 20 minutes or so for a dial up connection. The software is very easy to use and is worth having the £20.00 add on fee for all the speed camera alerts as the traffic police always change the locations of cameras every 2-3 months. This is hardly dealing with road safety is it! You don't get road builders swapping roads around making accident blackspots different every 2-3 months do you.....This is why the updates for the software... Read review

Aswell as having customisable voices, an updated speed camera database, thousands of POS's (Points of intrests) it can even avoid traffic jams iether through the Tomtom plus services which work through a bluetooth connection to your bluetooth enabled mobile phone or through a traffic ariel attachment. It's quick and easy to remove from your car and small enough and light enough to carry in your pocket. You can even easily move it between cars using an extra mount saving you from having to unplug everything and re attach the suction cup. ...This little toy was possible the biggest revolution to happen to my driving in all the years since I passed my test. I had seen a friend use it and knew I was going to be happy with it. The unit comes supplied with a software package to connect to your pc for updates via the internet, and a usb cable to connect and recharge the unit, and a cigarette lighter so you never run out of power on the move. Once connected to your pc, the unit is fully operational via your computer screen providing you can get a signal indoors, rather than through the tomtom's touch screen until you disconnect it. To be honest, it was that easy to use the first time I turned it on, I couldn't even tell you if it came with a manual or not! The unit is simple, neat and effective. This is normally clearly shown on the TomTom by a camera picture on the top left hand corner of the screen which also shows what the actual limit is followed by a sound. This is very handy at times when you may be going faster than you should. These cameras can also be updated but for this the TomTom must be connected to a mobile phone. The 520 also has a "Jukebox" feature on it. This means that the 520 can also become a music player. This is done by connecting the computer up to a PC at home and then transferring files onto it by simply dragging and dropping files onto the TomTom. There isn't much free memory on the TomTom itself but you can by a memory card which will increase the memory to up to 2GB which is a fair whack. ...So there I was with a trip to Leicester from North Wales, so I visited a website to get a route map, OH NO! How confusing, so I bought myself the new TomTom One Local from my local Currys for only £199.98. After getting the TomTom home and unpacking it I couldn't believe how compact the new model was compared to the older models that I had used in the past the new TomTom One is about 2.8cms deep, 9.5cms wide and 8cms high. In the box you get the SD card with the UK map on it as well as a CD with TomTom Home, which I will mention Later, the in-car charger, cable for plugging the TomTom into your PC, windscreen mount, registration card and the manual that you need to get the TomTom running. First of all the manual is right down to the basics of using the TomTom and explains how to enter an address and the TomTom will work out... Read review
