TomTom To the Rescue
Review of TomTom GO 520 by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Easy to use, better than an A-Z
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, battery is not great
...(and driving instructions if you so wish) on a particular frequency and you need to tune in your car radio to it. I have found that the sound comes out very well and have had no problems with it.
The 520 also has a built in transmitter which lets you use the traffic updates. This is used to update traffic as you are moving so you don't get stuck in it. As you are driving, the TomTom will receive updates as to where the traffic is bad and inform you of this. It can then calculate a route for you to go that avoids the traffic. I believe it costs about £20 per year but I don't have it so cant really comment on it.
As with all the TomTom's, you can change the voices that speak to you. There are a wide variety of standard voices but there are also some celebrity voices which you can get at an extra cost. Beware though, the only official...

TomTom One… It will change your life
Review of TomTom ONE Great Britain by
supreah
Advantages: Excellent navigation and GPS reception, portable, good value for money
Disadvantages: Poorly located charging indicator LED
...updates from TomTom and other add-ons like TomTom weather, TomTom traffic, etc. which you can download and install at a price. The software also comes with a handy feature that allows you to change all your configurations on the TomTom One device through a simulation.
It is possible to download and use other country maps from the TomTom site (for a price, of course) when visiting other countries. The device also supports TomTom's .ov2 POI format which means that the ever increasing compilations of user POI set and various safety camera databases available online are fully supported.
While on the go, you can connect your device via Bluetooth to youe mobile phone to connect for traffic and weather updates.
Advantages

The TomTom One has many advantages some of which are listed below

This is your TomTom speaking ...
Review of TomTom GO 300 by
Geldoff
Advantages: Safer driving and you'll never get lost.
Disadvantages: Seems a little pricey at first.
...can choose a number of different options such as avoiding motorways, the fastest route, the shortest or if you don't want to take the car, biking routes or walking routes.
: : : Will the TomTom make me a cup of tea? : : :
Ah, no. It's a satellite navigation system not a teasmade. But it can direct you to a shopping centre, which is bound to have a coffee shop serving tea.
: : : Are there any other features I should know about? : : :
Yes. You can download a POI file from www.pocketgps.co.uk that has the locations of all traffic cameras in the UK and you can set the TomTom to warn you when you're within a certain distance of red-light cameras and speed cameras and what the local speed limit is. Now OF COURSE you wouldn't dream of exceeding the speed limit at any time while driving but it is useful to know when speed cameras...

TomTom 910 The Market Leader
Review of TomTom GO 910 by
holdfast
Advantages: New Features. MP3 Player,Audio Books,Traffic Alert system and more
Disadvantages: None
...,
You can store MP3 files, certainly enough to last even the longest journey.
Audio Books,
A link via the new Firmware to a site called Audiblemanager allows you to purchase the latest books on release, so you can listen whilst you drive. I am half way through "The Da Vinci Code". Work prevents me from sitting down and reading the book.
Photographs.
You can store your fav photo's
Speed Camera Warnings,
I know we have had this facility for some time, either by subscription to TomTom or Free from a non TomTom source. However TomTom have improved the service. You can now report new cameras direct from the unit to TomTom via a GPRS connection with your mobile phone. Also you can receive instant updates via GPRS.
TomTom Traffic.
This has been improved together with Text to Speech voices, you can now receive more detailed...

Have TomTom will travel!
Review of TomTom ONE Local by
kwildchild
Advantages: Compact, neat and gets you where you want to go
Disadvantages: Don't use Shortest route on long journeys
..., then after a few more seconds it reworked the route from the direction I was going and gave me a new route to get me where I was going, superb.
Using the menus on the TomTom is very easy and self-explanatory such as Navigate to, find alternative, Change preferences and much, much more.
This version also has the option of connecting to your mobile phone via bluetooth to enable you to get the PLUS options such as TomTom Traffic which warns you of traffic problems on your route, Safety camera warnings which tells you where the speed camera are and also TomTom buddies which connects you to other TomTom users, but, you have to pay a subscription to the TomTom PLUS services, but it is nice to have the option.
The TomTom also has a nice option of changing the display to more subdued callers at night so that you are not dazzled by the little box...

Way to GO TomTom but...
Review of TomTom GO 510 by
Nick_Endeavour
Advantages: Screen Size, TMC, Bluetooth Hands free for Phone, Accessories
Disadvantages: Price, Extras at Price, Only GB and MRE, SD Card too Small, No Mp3 player facility
...I was bought this for Xmas and I felt like a kid again. The special offer at Curry's brings also a very welcome TomTom traffic module, this is actually just a re branded TMC module (the little green cameras on motorways) and works via RDS but hey on its own is about £60 so why not.
Open another box (inside the big one) and you finally you find the TomTom, sitting there looking at you pretty in a nice gleam smile. I was just dying to open it up and try it. Common sense though suggested putting it on charge and playing about with the rest of the gadgets.
This is where the first problem arouses. There is no jack to plug the charger in the TomTom and you have to use the dock, which means you have you have a dangling USB cable down in the living room because some genius designer though to make it built in. Now past that irritating...

The Real Tomtom ONE V3 GB Review
Review of TomTom ONE XL United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland by
NickUK
Advantages: Great features, Price
Disadvantages: None - Maybe battery life, restricted internal memory
...Tomtom Sat Nav? You want to read about its useful features and not the gimmicks. What's worth having and what's not? The difference between the Tomtom V2 and V3.
Now I'm no expert, to be honest I was a first time buyer on a budget and only previously had experience of a friends Navman F20 before buying my own tomtom 10 days ago.
I set out as you are probably doing now reading all the reviews on different makes and finding people talking more about battery life and suction ability rather than what it can actually do.
Step one, it eventually hit me that the only way to avoid disappointment and really find out its full features is to go to the manufacturers website and download there product manual if its available.
Four real must have features I would say on any Sat Nav worth having are:
* Map scrolling, where you can use...
