...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. TomTom Europe 22

Advantages: It's a TomTom. Easy to use. Does what it's made to do. Good value.
Disadvantages: None.

...I recently purchased the new TomTom Europe 22 from Halfords. I was originally going to buy the V3 of the TomTom Europe as the price is genuinley lower than the new one is. I'll get to that now. I actually, did, buy the V3 model first. When I did and went to set it up in the car I noticed the windscreen suction piece wasn't in the box and to top that, the actual sat nav seemed 2nd hand. Scratches - deep scratches - all over the sat nav. So I boxed it all back up and went back into Halfords. Served by the same person - baring in mind, it's the assistant manager. I told her the situation and that I wasn't pleased. She said, "I must of forgotten to tell you the sat nav I sold you was originally a display model". Review of TomTom ONE V4 Europe

Versatile Road Cat - Tomtom XL Europe.

Advantages: fast, upgradeable, reliable, robust, costumisable, portable and much more
Disadvantages: confuses speeds at times, battery power loss while switched off

...knowing what I know now, after all it as accurate more than 95% of the time and when it is not it does get me close enough to figure location out, auto corrects if I make a trajectory error and is quite fast at doing this, very versatile and always up to date with all the updates, shame that some things that should be relatively cheap TomTom wants to charge a fortune...anyway that another subject not the devices fault lol. hope this helps you guys make your mind up ...BUY IT you won't regret it ...but be aware is not perfect ...most things are not perfect anyway....just put John Clees voice and you'll be happy PLEASE if you took the time to read, spend one ,more second and rate it....

You need tom-toms to find your way

Advantages: Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction.
Disadvantages: Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.

...On the basis of good reviews I bought Navigator 6 Western Europe (Nav 6) for my PDA to replace an ageing Miomap programme. Having removed the Miomap programme the TomTom Nav 6 installed quickly and easily and after selecting a few options, was up and running. The selection of only 2 UK voices was very disappointing, and neither really appealed. Navigating to a post code is simple to set up, but I could not preview the route until the unit connected to satellites. I had to exit the navigation screen an select a view map icon to see anything. Typing in a town name is predictive, letting you select a town really easily. Menu navigation is easy with nice large icons and a maximum of 6 to a screen. ...On buying my Tomtom one i was very excited and also a little disapointed with the size of the box, i purchased a TomTom one v4 europe with traffic updates. The set up was very simple no CD to mess about with and put in my "Man Draw" never to be seen again all the software for your pc is on the unit itself just plug the usb lead in and away you go. The new easy mount part is truly rubbish you click the unit into it and unless you get this right it will pop out, now bearing in ming you will be doing this on a windscreen of a car and if you have a car like mine a Ford Galaxy the windscreen is a mile away and proved fiddley to mount correctly also the USB leas from the charger just doesnt want to go in the hole so you have to take it off again and plug it in then try and snap the unit back into its mount fine on a nice cool day but not...

The whole of Europe!

Advantages: great software, great usability, graphics, features, lots of maps
Disadvantages: price, it was not that easy to install

...in your trip, etc. You can customize it to 'speak' in many different languages including English, Dutch, Portuguese, French and many others. Furthermore, you can also set the map with different colour schemes, which is very handy when driving at night so the colours are a bit less bright. Advantages: Detailed, easy to use
Disadvantages: Slow (but this could just be my phone)

...Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2. I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to. The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. A package of maps worth having

...Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet. Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either by credit or debit card, and the down load commenced. Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer. Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest....

TomTom - slow, large but still simple BEST

...I use TomTom Navigator 6 with my mobile phone - MDA. I have also tested nearly all other software for navigation so i will try to compare. TomTom has the best menu navigation - it has only 5 items menu so it is possible to browse in menus when you are driving even if you have got a small display on your PDA. The menus are simple and it is very easy to adjust something very fast. Maps for TomTom are made not by countries as it is normally done by the others but by packs of countries so you dont need to switch maps so often. On the other hand if you choose igo2006 for example you can have all the maps at once and then no need to switch anything - there brings TomTom some difficulties when you are passing borders between two map sectors.
