Granny got my 3 year old Son TANKED UP !
Review of Tomy Thomas & Friends Motor Road & Rail (Giant Set) by  garleon

Advantages: Encourages play, expandable and great fun
Disadvantages: Eats the batteries and track can be wobbly

...useful" engines to go on the tracks --- What train set would be complete without the trains? For the Thomas and friends fans out there you get the following fellows:- James ,Duck, Diesel, Stepney and Toby. Each requires it's own battery (Thank you Mr Tomy for NOT including them and hello Mr Duracell !). The track itself is not powered like a conventional train set, so each engine has to run under it's own steam…..excuse the pun. 4 C cell batteries and 1 AA are required to keep these suckers going for about what feels like 5 minutes. The trains have little ridged rubber wheels to help them run on the tracks, but they can also run across most other flat surfaces like tables, floors and down several stairs. Each engine thankfully has it's own on off switch as well. The rest of the supplied rolling stock consists of six trailers of various... Read review

Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends
Review of Thomas the Tank Engine by  thespurs

Advantages: Great stories, good engines, educational experience
Disadvantages: The new stories aren't as good

...the mighty express train and he is very proud of that fact. He is very reluctant to join in with games that the other engines play because he is so protective of his reputation. Henry - The other big engine on the line who often operates the busy passenger lines. He stars in my favourite Thomas episode of all. As the rain falls, Henry thinks that it will destroy his beautiful coat of paint so he stops in a tunnel and refuses to move. As a result, the Fat Controller blocks the tunnel and he is left a lonely, sad an unused engine. He learns the errors of his ways and comes to the rescue when Gordon breaks down. James - A medium sized red painted engine who has a number of different jobs on the railway. He doesn't appear in too many stories but he does often seem to be the engine who sorts out problems between others. Edward - Much similar... Read review

MY FRIEND
Review of Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine by  redeyes22

Advantages: good fun
Disadvantages: too many batteries

...A very warm welcome to all Thomas friends!!! I've got a little boy age 5 who is very fascinated by Thomas the tanks engine and all his friends (made by Tommy). ***********How it started. ********** About 4 years ago my husband and me was visiting my husband nephew. They have some Thomas toys for sale (and if I remember right it was Thomas medium set and some trains). Therefore, we sad why not and we did. In addition, since that day my son is just mad on anything to do with Thomas the tank engine and his friends. He plays with toys, ride Thomas bike, and scooter, wears only Thomas cloths, eats from Thomas plate with Thomas knife, fork and spoon. But the biggest adventure with Thomas for our family is to spend our holidays around steam railway where Thomas visits (what normal cold "days out with Thomas the tank engine and his... Read review

First Class Trains, Or How I Learnt To Love Thomas
Review of Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends - Brave Little Engines DVD by  snowbunni

Advantages: Likeable little characters, Simple stories
Disadvantages: Only really appeals to children 6 and under...

...: In which Thomas is thoroughly washed and polished to carry a very important guest. The little mouse refuses to travel with Thomas, however, because he is too clean… EDWARD THE VERY USEFUL ENGINE: In which Gordon and the big engines complain that Edward is too old and unreliable to continue work. They see the error of their ways when Gordon becomes stuck and good old Edward comes to the rescue… RUSTY SAVES THE DAY: In which an oddly named twosome, Rheneas & Skarloey, are given just two weeks to repair their line, with the threat of being sent to work in the quarry if they fail. Rusty and Elizabeth come to their aid and the job is completed… Whilst both the theme tune and ambience are much as I remember them from those Thomas Videos of the late 80's and early 90's, Ringo Star has long since resigned from his post. He has been replaced... Read review

Never ending rail track
Review of Tomy Tomica Trains by  sprinkledoughnut

Advantages: Never ending fun for children and adults
Disadvantages: Can get out of hand and very expensive

...First of all, Tomy Tomica Trains is a road and rail train set. If you are a follower of Thomas the Tank engine, you can buy nearly every train from the series individually. You can buy the train track, which is blue in colour and links together to form a track of your own design. You can buy add on's like stations, and level crossings to link into it. There is also a road track system which can be linked into it, which is grey in colour, and you can buy characters like Bertie the Bus and Bulgy to run on this. It is fun at the level crossings as the buses stop to let the trains pass. The trains and buses all run on batteries. Most of the Tomica items can be bought individually or in sets. Some of the box sets contain a promotional Tomica video, which can show you how expensive things can really get, but it gives you a good idea... Read review

THE NUMBER ONE BOYS TOY
Review of Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine by  Deni

Advantages: good quality, reasonable priced, hours of fun
Disadvantages: none

..., this is the largest of the sets and where Harold (the helicopter) actually flies around. This is also a rail and road set up and costs £44.99. SUMMARY: I think all the engines are designed wonderfully for small children, as they are very safe, with no removable parts. They are very colourful and I adore the little faces on each vehicle. You can purchase die cast models as well, which are heavier, but have also great detail. My stepson has outgrown his sets, which are the die cast type and they are safety stored in my loft, ready for my grandson, who I am sure will have great fun with them. I know the trend at the moment seems to be Bob the builder, but to me he does not come close to Thomas and his friends. I really think these superb train sets will be around for years to come. Thanks for reading bye for now Deni... Read review

Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine Starter Set
Review of Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine Starter Set by  tabsman

Advantages: Great for small hands
Disadvantages: So many to collect

...This is where it all started. The starter set was my son's first exposure to Thomas the Tank Engine - First things first - there are at least 5 different styles of Thomas toys - none which interact with each other so sticking to 1 type would be recommended. This is a My First Thomas range which are ideal for children aged 1 and above. The toys are brightly coloured and accurate copies of your favourite Thomas characters. There are plenty to collect! The trains all have non marking rubber wheels, are hard wearing, dishwasher safe and most importantly are battery free. A great and affordable gift for a 1 plus year old boy - My son, now 2 cannot get enough of his collection - he has 35+!!!! You can also purchase a track which the trains will interact with. So to conclude - an ideal purchase for any young boy... Read review

My very first Thomas the tank engine set
Review of Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine by  princesssoapy

Advantages: Very sturdy unbreakable toys., Quite inexpensive., Easy to clean.
Disadvantages: none that i can think of

...Before my son Callum's first birthday, he is now 2 1/2 years old, we bought him the My First Thomas range of toys. These are chunky plastic engines and carriages etc. They are unbreakable, Callum throws them so hard sometimes and also they have been stood on and not broken too! The prices start at £4.99 and i think they are well worth every penny, seeing as he still has them all in working order. My son has all the main engines, Thomas Edward, Henry, Gordon,James and Percy and also he has Toby the tram engine and Harold the helicopter as well as a troublesome truck, Annie and Clarabel (Thomas's Carriages) an express coach, Bertie the Bus and a lorry. There is such a good range and you can even get a nice plastic track for Thomas and his friends to go along. You can obtain all these toys from mothercare, Toys R us, Tesco... Read review
