Fame Academy - Toni and Guy style
Review of Toni and Guy by  daisydaisym

Advantages: Freebie haircuts, friendly service,
Disadvantages: May take longer than a normal cut, as the tutors will double check everything!

...Before you read the rest of this review you need to know 2 things about me 1/ I HATE going to the hairdressers. Ever since a hideous haircut as an 8 year old that left me teased at school, and traumatised for life!!! And again, at 16 with a Toni and Guy's Stylist who just wouldn't listen to what I wanted at all!!! I left with big, bouffant, backcombed US soap star hair, which surprisingly didn't suit a 5 foot nothing school girl! 2/ I also hate people coming up to me on the street and trying to sell me stuff! So, it was a very bizarre and unusual set of circumstances that found me this morning sitting in the Toni and Guy Training Academy on New Oxford Street, acting as a model for Rob, who was about to be assessed on his technique for cutting a classic bob! I'm not sure who was the most nervous, him or me!!! HOW IT ALL... Read review

Regent Street
Review of Regent Street (London) by  charlotte_edmundson

Advantages: Hamleys
Disadvantages: Too many people, too much traffic

...If you haven't been to London before, then go to Regent Street. Less chain-store oriented than Oxford Street, its best feature is easily Hamleys, with over 5 floors of toys and games. There is a great ice-cream shop close to the Piccadilly Circus end, as well as Cheers bar, themed on the American TV show, and lots of specialist shops like the Apple store, and Liberty's is just round the corner. However, if you've been to London before, then avoid this street, as it is always packed with people, and Saturdays are a complete nightmare. There are many better places to see, and I much prefer the streets leading off it, like Carnaby, which have more interesting shops, and are a lot less manic.... Read review

FREE kicks to your flicks at Toni & Guy Academy!
Review of Toni and Guy by  thought_fox

Advantages: Excellent, stylish cuts for FREE/£5; Pleasant surroundings
Disadvantages: Weekday appointments only; Restricted Times; Time consuming

...- cuts or colour etc. So I wanted both a cut AND highlights, so I decided to go for the branch in St Christopher's Place, Central London. Well, I tried calling them first, using the number was on the advert, but I couldn't get through as the "number was unavailable". So I decided to trudge down there myself. The location is relatively easy to get to, if not cunningly hidden - cross the road from Bond Street Station (on the Picadilly Line), walk in the direction AWAY from Selfridges, and you'll normally see a large sign advertising something in St Christopher's Place, pointing down a narrow alleyway (called "Gees Court") off Oxford Street. I swear I would have completely walked past it had the sign not been there - it's quite easy to miss! Walk down this alleyway and it leads to St Christopher's Place; the Toni&Guy building is on the left, past... Read review

Toni & Guy
Review of Toni and Guy by  Jordon

Advantages: Top Service, Professional
Disadvantages: None

...Toni & Guy I have visited a few of Toni & Guy salons, so I now feel that I can write this review. In 1963 Toni & Guy first salon opened in Clapham London. From there on in, there was no stopping them, nearly every big town has one. If I am correct they also have or are expanding abroad. If you have visited 1 or more Toni & Guy salon’s you will notice that they are all the same, from the chairs to the sinks, the walls to the floor. Each salon is identical, being the inside. They have a uniform of Black and White. Black bottoms with a White top, they do have their own logo t-shirts in which some staff do wear. The salons I have visited – Chichester in West Sussex, owned by a man called Jeff. Basildon in Essex, owned by a man called Billy. This opened in August 1999. Billy is sponsoring Miss Essex at the moment... Read review

Horror at Toni and Guy Victoria
Review of Toni and Guy by  just_one

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Broken promises

...I saw an advert looking for model for colour, pasted outside Toni and Guy Victoria branch. I decided to walk in to enquire. The reception there set me an appointment to come in on a Thursday. As this was my first experience being a model for hair colour, I was a little unsure. Therefore I asked how experience the student who will be doing the colour is. I was given the assurance that Laura, the student is very good. However, I was prewarned that the whole process may take up to 3 hours. On Thursday, the day of my appointment I was very excited. I had earlier applied for time off with my company in order to come in for the colour session. So, you could imagine my disappointment when I went into Toni and Guy and was informed by Catherine, a supposedly colour instructor that I would need to come in for a scalp colour test prior to my... Toni and Guy
Review of Toni and Guy by  chazolate

Advantages: You can say you got your hair cut at Toni and Guy
Disadvantages: People wont believe you by looking at it

...My hair is the most important feature to me and therefore I was really upset when I started losing it due to years of straightening. I decided to try out hair extensions and went to toni and guy for a free consultation as well as S&I another near by hair dressers. After having a consultation with both I went back to Toni and Guy to book it with them however they informed me that the way they did the extensions had changed and i now had to pay £30 for a consultation and over £1000 for the work where as my previous quote was around £800. I decided to get my hair done at S&I and I really like it there. When it was finally time to take the extensions out again I decided I would like to get my hair permanently straightened. Toni and Guy had two different treatments for this and at a consultation I was told they both worked about the same... Read review

Toni&Guy Hair Scare
Review of Toni and Guy by  AmyS

Advantages: Can boost your hair-confidence
Disadvantages: Price, Staff, After-care

...Ever since my first trip around 3 yrs ago, ive been a dedicated Toni&Guy girl, even when thye messed my hair up! Howevere, i think now im starting to see the truth about them. Basically, the hype surrounding "Toni&Guy" overshadows the service. While you may get 9 out of ten people perfectly pleased with their style, you can guarantee that last person will not be pleased, and will be wondering how the hell the Stylist heard "Choppy bob" when they clearly asked for long layers. In short, sometimes it feels as though the stylists, although extremely skilled in what they do, are cutting your hair as if it were their own, as THEY would like, and not neccessarily relavent to how you have requested. The ever-so-stylish stylists can be somewhat overwhelming with their vision to create your hair into a catwalk masterpiece in 2 hours, while all... Read review

Ex-Toni & Guy employee sets the record straight...
Review of Toni and Guy by  shinejunkie

Advantages: Some excellent, talented staff. Latest styles and techniques
Disadvantages: Staff often in England just for a year or two. Appointments too short.

...(Okay, so this was meant to be a response to "Conveyor belt hair dressing" but I exceeded the word-limit so I am instead posting in a new thread for all to see.) It's not Toni & Guy salons that are at fault here - it's the individual colourist. You'll get good and bad colourists in any salon. I used to work as a senior technician (colourist) at Toni & Guy and whilst I do have my criticisms of the company I feel it's unfair to assume that problems such as this apply to all Toni & Guy staff. This stripey effect is something I saw a lot of regardless of where the colour was done. It is often laziness on the part of the colourist in colouring over the midlengths instead of just the regrowth. But there are a few things you can do yourself to minimise this, which is why I'm responding: 1. Keep to the same colourist. A different... Read review

Toni and Guy
Review of Toni and Guy by  Sandring

Advantages: magazines and coffee on tap
Disadvantages: the hairdressers

...I recently had a terrible experience at Toni and Guy in Liverpool (Whitechapel) when tint was used on my hair when I specifically requested hi-lites. The experience caused my scalp to burn and it is still very sore to this day. I'm amazed I still have hair at all! And touch wood it will fully recover. I will have to invest in zinc tablets now.The stylist literally painted the top of my head with the solution and walked away. I now look like I have red roots when the rest of my hair is blonde. The service itself was very sloppy and apart from the terrible consultation, I was left on my own for an hour when I desperately wanted the hairdresser to wash the solution out as it was causing such discomfort. Since the disaster, I have been into the salon to complain and was given peppermint solution to soothe the burns! I have used a whole... Read review
