Toni & Guy aren't all that
Advantages: Can be a bargain with a trainee
Disadvantages: Attitude!
...I'd never been to a Toni & Guy before as personally I think spending upwards of £50 just for a trim is a bit of a rip off, and I've always been happy with the cuts and colouring I've had at more reasonably priced salons. However last time I walked past the Oxford branch they were advertising for models for cutting and colouring, so as it's only 5 minutes from where I work I thought I'd give it a go. I spoke to the trainee who would be cutting my hair, and he was really nice, had a chat about the cut I wanted (basically to go from a boring longish bob to a sharper, more graduated cut) and he booked me in for the following week. The price was £10 which I thought was a bargain.
I've had my hair cut by trainees before and always found it fine, although sometimes it can take a bit longer and I find they have to concentrate more so don...

Toni & Guy
Advantages: Top Service, Professional
Disadvantages: None
...Toni & Guy
I have visited a few of Toni & Guy salons, so I now feel that I can write this review.
In 1963 Toni & Guy first salon opened in Clapham London. From there on in, there was no stopping them, nearly every big town has one. If I am correct they also have or are expanding abroad.
If you have visited 1 or more Toni & Guy salon?s you will notice that they are all the same, from the chairs to the sinks, the walls to the floor. Each salon is identical, being the inside.
They have a uniform of Black and White. Black bottoms with a White top, they do have their own logo t-shirts in which some staff do wear.
The salons I have visited ?
Chichester in West Sussex, owned by a man called Jeff.
Basildon in Essex, owned by a man called Billy. This opened in August 1999. Billy is sponsoring Miss Essex at the moment...

Tony! Toni! Toné?
Advantages: Lots of big tracks
Disadvantages: Nothing specific
...to show that they are amongst the best in this R&B/Hip Hop fusion.
**Five Stars**
2. ?All The Way?
The high quality of the music persists through this song as you find that they perform an exciting one where they do more of the energetic New Jack Swing stuff and, of course, this means that it lifts the mood of the listener, and allows them to make you get on their level as they do something quite simplistic, but well-executed.
**Five Stars**
3. ?Oakland Stroke?
It just doesn?t stop here as they are relentless with the funky, Hip Hop-inspired work, and I would say that this is the track which has it put to best use as they go for a dance number. It is a freaky jam from them and has them basing it mainly around rapping, and having singing reserved for the chorus. They recycle Kool & The Gang?s ?Jungle Boogie? brass wind and do so by...

Eighty Not Out
Advantages: Classic songs given a new slant
Disadvantages: One or two weak tracks
.... Rightly so, in this instance, since the song is undisputedly his theme tune, and here he gives it the simplest, but nonetheless effective of treatments. The piano accompaniment is minimal, and in places, Bennett could almost be singing a capella, proving that he doesn't need a big backing orchestra to do justice to the song with which he will always be linked.
The biggest surprise of all for me was George Michael's performance in How Do You Keep The Music Playing, surely not the easiest of songs to sing. Michael's voice takes on a depth which isn't, perhaps, heard in much of his contemporary work, and he proves more than capable of holding onto a note, complementing Bennett's style perfectly during Michel LeGrand's haunting melody.
Until now, I've barely mentioned the performance of Tony Bennett himself, saving, as it were, the best...

Hard going but worth it....Blood Royal - Vanora Bennett
Advantages: Enjoyable read
Disadvantages: Its a long book
...of England and France - despite her brother having already claimed the French crown for himself (but not for long!).
Under threat from the powerful lords of the English court and sadley her own brothers-in-law, Catherine has to find her own way, if only for the sake of her baby son.
Catherine hopes that one day she will be able to return to her beloved France.
Owain Tudor, who is controller of her household and 'friend' puts her in a terrible predicament when rumours of their relationship leak out and this threatens her right to keep her child. To save her son, (and herself) she turns away from Owain and all that is familiar and safe to find another way forward.
The book is set mostly in France but does briefly pop over the channel to England.
My Opinion
It was hard going but very enjoyable. For anyone who is remotely interested in...

Even for non-Bennett fans
Advantages: Will last you a long time! Entertaining, humourous, and poignant.
Disadvantages: Not a quick read.
...Alan Bennett was unknown to me before I picked up this book. All I knew was that he was a playwright. I acquired the novel from Asda at a very good price of £3.99. I was looking for an intellectual, stimulating and humourous read. I definitely got what I asked for.
The book is long and the print is small so it takes a while to read. It is what it says it is though - it is a mix of journal entries and musings. Naturally, it is very well written, and is easy to follow - but it is clear that this something written for adults as the language can be quite complex.
Bennett does not leave much to the imagination, it has to be said, and he reveals a lot of personal insight on his family life, and can be at times very critical of family members. So much so that as a reader I felt quite invasive, almost like an intruder, knowing so much...

McCartney's Best!!
Advantages: Great tracks in harmony
Disadvantages: Couple of tracks not so good
...When I was a kid, my dad was really into Paul McCartney & Wings, and he had the cassette of the ex-Beatles star's 'All The Best' album. Recently, I found the album on CD on ebay and bought a copy for his birthday. He chuckled, we put it on and revelled in the nostalgic memories it presented us.
The compilation was released in 1987 and contains 17 of McCartney's hits, including the theme tune to the James Bond film 'Live And Let Die' (the track is of the same name) and the magical 'We All Stand Together'.
These are the tracks:
1. Jet
2. Band On The Run
3. Coming Up
4. Ebony and Ivory
5. Listen To What The Man Said
6. No More Lonely Nights
7. Silly Love Songs
8. Let 'Em In
9. C Moon
10. Pipes Of Peace
11. Live And Let Die
12. Another Day
13. Once Upon A Long Ago
14. Say Say Say
15. My Love
16. We All Stand Together...

Uncle Fester goes Tony Bennett
Advantages: Sensual, glorious splendour
Disadvantages: None
...The first remarkable greatest hits album by Siouxsie And The Banshees covered their first formative years, from the glossy and unrepresentative pop of Hong Kong Garden through the Goth rock chill of the first few albums right up to the richer landscapes of the 'Ju Ju? album, with the ?Spellbound?, ?Israel? and ?Arabian Knights? epics.
For many that was the point at which the Banshees actually began to matter and this second collection of hits, imaginatively titled ?Twice Upon A Time?, records their output over the decade from 1992.
By now, the Banshees had long ago left behind them all Nazi imagery and dalliance with the shock horror jackboot tactics of the mid 70?s and adopted far more stylish sounds and imagery. Let?s just spend a moment or two reprising that history to set the context for this sumptuous collection?
When...

Bennett on holiday?...not likely...he's too buisy
Advantages: Brilliant music, wether you like Billy Holliday or Tony himself
Disadvantages: Unfortunately Tony cant do them all so well...after all there was only one Billy Hilliday!
...Its when you listen to Tony Bennett that one gets to realise that they just don't write them like this anymore.... This album- maybe not one of his best- still rings the changes, between the new and the not so new...it is definitely unique. The On Holiday refers to the incredible blues singer Billie Holiday. This woman has definite feeling and is the idol of many pop singers today. Tony Bennet, with his easy, lounge like style redoes some of her songs on this album. The songs on this album are the more brighter ones in Holidays repetoire, however, they couldn't leave out "Willow Weep for Me," and "These Foolish Things."
The songs are beautiful and Tony Bennet does a decent job of going a little deeper within himself to pull up those inate feelings. You need to be a Tony Bennet fan to really appreciate this album.
