Humble Pie - Gordon Ramsay
Review of Humble Pie - Gordon Ramsay by
claireelen
Advantages: Not only an insight into an amazing talented man,but a good London resteraunt guide!
Disadvantages: I really can not think of any!
...Published by HarperCollins publishers in hardback format (240 x 159cm), released 2nd October 2006, RRP £18.99, although it can be found in many shops or on websites for nearly half price.
Humble Pie is a detailed and honest account of Gordon Ramsay's life, past and present, both in and out of the kitchen.
Gordon talks about his unsettled childhood "Our family life was built on a series of pipe dreams. The dreams of my father, a wannabe rock 'n' roll star, a man whose dreams turned to dust." Gordon's father was an alcoholic and a violent man, he would fall out with his employers and make the family move up and down the country, for it only to happen all over again. It was not only his employers that he would take his temper out on, Gordon recalls a conversation with his father on the telephone - "Mum's been in hospital for three...

"Gordon's Alive?"
Review of Flash Gordon DVD by
clownfoot
Advantages: Brian Blessed's in it shouting "DIVE" alot! And it's got the best soundtrack to a film... ever!
Disadvantages: Maybe to camp and colourful for some. Avoid if you lack a sense of humour or are looking for something high-brow.
...FLASH GORDON
"Flash - a-ah - saviour of the universe. Flash - a-ah - he'll save every one of us."
Or so the Queen soundtrack goes over the comic-book enriched title credits (something Spiderman 2 would later borrow). It serves to get the audience's toes immediately tapping in anticipation for the film to begin outright and, for some bizarre reason, coupled with the spandex pants, phallic shaped spaceships, an over-developed sense for bright, garish colours and Brian Blessed shouting "DIVE" to his birdman hordes whenever he gets the chance, Flash Gordon comes across as a deliriously brilliant, camp piece of outrageous space opera cinematics. Indeed, with these hallmarks, it's impossible to imagine a movie that's more innocently entertaining (only Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure seems to usurp Flash Gordon to such a title...

I'm Gordon
Review of Gordon in Charge - Jill Newton by
danielalong
Advantages: Nice illustrations and story line
Disadvantages: None
...Gordon in Charge
A book about a bossy goat and what happens when he won't give up his authority!
STORY AND ILLUSTRATIONS
The story centres around Gordon the bossy goat, and indeed we meet him on the first page, with his mouth wide open shouting orders and instructions at the sheep cows and hens. Unfortunately for Gordon the goat, there is a new addition to the farm in the form of Gordon the goose. The meeting is not a pleasant one, with Gordon the goat showing his displeasure and the goose honking his displeasure.
Gordon the goat decides that he is in charge, so the goose will have to change his name. They begin a battle to prove who can keep the other animals in order. Gordon the goose suggests that they swim across the pond and whoever wins is in charge. Of course, the goat ends up a soggy goat, so he challenges the goose...

Gordon's Shock-Chocs!
Review of Gordon Ramsay by
snowbunni
Advantages: Edible...
Disadvantages: Expensive, Over-hyped, Poor Quality Ingredients
...Gordon Ramsay's Just Desserts
Just Desserts? Well, the clue was in the title all along, I suppose. Gordon Ramsay, celebrity chef, made this dubious contribution to the glutted chocolate market in 2003, hot on the heels of his other nefarious activities in the Celebrity Chef spectrum. I for one succumbed to the hype…and suffice to say I got my 'Just Desserts'!
To clear up any confusion from the outset, these aren't actually desserts at all, in fact they're 'just' chocolates. Although chocolates could presumably constitute a 'dessert' if taken in sufficient quantities, I certainly wouldn't recommend eating these in large quantities, unless you're a glutton... for punishment.
The packaging is a neat, purple & silvery affair that frankly resembles a book cover more than a box of chocolates, with an 'Arial' type font & Gordon...

Gordon Ramsay's Fast Food
Review of Gordon Ramsay's Fast Food by
IanM73
Advantages: Great easy recipes
Disadvantages: You might not have all the ingredients !
...I have been lacking time and inspiration latley so I thought It’s about time I got back into the swing of things, I thought what can I do and this book was staring me in the face as I have been using the recipes for the last two months !
The book is Gordon Ramsay’s fast food and is no doubt the best cooking book I have ever bought. I wanted to make something different from my usual things and as Gordon is my favourite chef on TV I thought I would try this book out.
The front of the book has a picture of Gordon on a black background with bright neon lettering on the front.
Just inside the book states that it is divided into short sections with 15 features of fast recipes such as starters, soups, fish, meat, pasta, working lunches, deserts etc and 15 menus for everyday entertaining.
It also states that the dishes can all be cooked...

Down to earth experience at Gordon Riggs
Review of Gordon Riggs Garden Centre, West Yorkshire by
ginger59
Advantages: range of plants, pleasant atmosphere, price, super tea shop attached to centre
Disadvantages: getting harrassed by pensioners, you might spend a fortune
...Gordon Riggs garden centre- a legend in its own lifetime. When I lived at home with my parents in Bury, we used to travel all the way to Walsden, near Littleborough, to buy plants and seedlings. IN the olden days, there were't many of these pioneering garden centres about and people travelled for miles to get to them.
Now Gordon Rigg has a few of these centres in the Lancashire region, and they are doing well. People travel to them from miles around- still..and fill up their cars with plants.
We went there today becasue we needed some shrubs for a hedge in our garden. We took my mother because she likes to look at what the latest plants are like- and we like having her around!
WHAT IT'S LIKE
YOu park your car in a huge car park and walk to the entrance-braving the mobile tea shop that sells bacon sandwiches- and pumps out...

Gordons Gin is Great
Review of Gordon's Dry Gin by
ashford
Advantages: Refreshing. Nice Flavour. Smooth
Disadvantages: Not many unless you dont like gin
...Gin is really one of my favourite drinks, especially on a hot, sultry, and humid, summer's day. It seems too that I am in fairly good company since it is the basic ingredient of martinis which James Bond loves to drink. One of the finest of all gins is Gordon's and this is today the best selling gin in the world. It was developed in 18th century London when Alexander Gordon set up his distillery.
Gin is distilled from malted grain and flavoured with juniper berries. It was first invented three hundred years ago,not in England, but in Holland,by a Dutch chemist. It was designed to be a remedy against a number of ailments and to generally make people feel better.
The English soon took to gin and initially drank gin of the Dutch type. Being ever resourceful they soon developed "unsweetened gin". London Dry Gin was to completely change...

Flash Gordon... superhero of the 80s
Review of Flash Gordon DVD by
MrRPriest
Advantages: Comic book fun. Good prodution values for the time. Quality soundtrack. High cheese factor
Disadvantages: Today's generation will think it's rubbish
...Hollywood's interest in adapting comic books into movies became fashionable following the release of Batman in 1989. Some have been superb(X-Men, Blade)while some have been awful (The Flash, The Punisher). There are some mouth-watering prospects with Spiderman, Superman and The Incredible Hulk all at different stages of development.
Before Batman, the offerings were pretty poor. Superman 2 is excellent, but the other Superman offerings were pretty lame. I shudder as I mention the abysmal Supergirl movie. I recall cheesy televison movie adaptations of the Incredible Hulk, Spiderman and Wonder Woman.
But if you are looking for big screen, cheesy comic book antics, look no further than the ambitious Flash Gordon movie released in 1980...
It opens with a barrage of animations taken from the original Flash Gordon comics...
