Hotel Geneagles, Torquay. very faulty

Advantages: non
Disadvantages: room poor, food cold and extra unexplained charges

...The Best Western Gleneagles describes itself as been located in a chic area of Torquay which is about 12 min taxi ride from the station, It boasts 41 modern rooms many of which have ocean views and all of which have private balconies, all rooms are tastefully designed with en suite bathroom, TV, hairdryer and hot drinks refreshment tray. Prices can vary depending on the time of year you visit this hotel and if any special offers are present. I myself was attending a trade show in Torquay and required a smoking room of which I was informed this hotel has 11 such rooms for those wishing to smoke, the rest of the hotel is of course non smoking to comply with regulations. This was a prime reason for choosing Gleneagles for my Torquay hotel as many other hotels are totally non smoking. I arrived late afternoon and was informed that...

Torquay's best hotels on one site

Advantages: So much to do, nice rooms, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None

...~*~*~TLH LEISURE RESORT~*~*~ The business was originally established in 1947 by Joyce and Cifford Murell. Still owned by the family, there are now 4 hotels spread across 7 acres. The hotel complex offers 440 en suite rooms and 29 self catering units. Each hotel specialises in something different, from functions to conferences and family breaks to dancing holidays. ~*~*~LOCATION~*~*~ The hotels are located on a triangular site in the middle of Belgrave road, Chestnut Avenue and Falkland road. The site is set behind Torre Abbey and a 5 minute walk to Torquay's sandy beach. ~*~*~HOTELS~*~*~ -Toorak; The 3 star hotel has 92 en-suite bedrooms. Meadfoot Bay Hotel,Torquay.

Advantages: Great hospitality, comfy clean rooms, cracking breakfast!
Disadvantages: Distance from the centre of Torquay

...Both my Husband and I were looking to get away last minute (8th & 9th August '06) and decided to set our hearts upon Torquay. We have visited Torquay before but haven't had the pleasure of staying so off I went on Google to search for hotels/guesthouses in Torquay. I stumbled across the Meadfoot Bay Hotel and I thought it was great that they had their own website www.meadfoot.com. I browsed the pages and was happy with what i saw, so decided to pick up the phone to see if they had any availability. Lucky for us, they had 1 room left which was a double and incidentally was room No.1. The hotel itself is set 200m from Meadfoot bay (a superb, quiet spot with excellent walks and a lovely beach). I decided to take my beautiful sparkly high heel shoes but unfortunately couldn't wear them as we were looking at a 15min walk to...

Belgrave Hotel

Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review

...Welcome to my Review of The Belgrave Hotel, Torquay. My review is going to tell you everything you need to know about the Hotel. What its like to stay there, The surroundings etc. Where? --------- The Belgrave is situated in the centre of Torquays seafront. The superb location boasts 22 miles of coastline, 18 beaches and lots of tourist attractions, which isnt surprising as the bay is Britains top resort. The Hotel is a few metres from the beach (this can be seen in the picture below) and is in perfect distance of the train station, the town centre and the Riviera Centre. How to get there? ------------------------ Car. I usually travel by car. The hotel has its own car park so you know your car is well looked after. To get to the hotel by car you follow these directions: From London take the M4 motorway to Bristol...

Torquay

Advantages: Beaches, attractions
Disadvantages: English weather

...are; Oddicombe Beach- Situated on the Babbacombe Downs, it is nested below the cliff. There are two ways of getting down there, walking down a steep walkway or on the Ciff Railway. Mainly a shingle beach, there is the choice of water sports or relaxing on a deck chair. The cliff railway opened in 1926, stopping for a few years during World War II. Torre Abbey Sands- Is the main beach in Torquay, situated along the promenade and close to the main road getting in to Torquay. It is a sandy beach which is very popular with residents of the many surrounding hotels, as well as the locals. On the other side of the road is Torre Abbey Meadows, this is very popular for people wishing to enjoy the coast without getting sand in their picnic, there is also crazy golf, tennis, pitch and putt and a HiFlyer Balloon. The area; Coming off...

The Best Hotel in the South west

Advantages: Luxury
Disadvantages: Car Parking

...I had the pleasure of staying at the Imperial for a couple of nights for a residential conference. The Imperial is part of the paramount chain, there are frequently special offers on their website www.paramount-hotels.co.uk. The usual discounter (laterooms, discount city hotels etc) can sometimes do deals on room rates. The rate I paid was a conference rate of about £50 per night but at the moment the Paramount website has Room only at £69, DBB at £143 per night The room rates increase as the season progresses. It is actually quite difficult to find anything to criticise. My room was large and well apportioned, with a sea view and patio door onto the balcony with a tremendous view over the bay. I took some photos from the balcony to look at them they could have been taken on the South of France. Whilst the rooms are nice they are...

Disappointing but has potential

Advantages: Sea view
Disadvantages: Needs moderising, useless shower, broken toilet seat

...There was a time when all Best Westerns were of a certain standard then you knew what to expect, but this one is unfortunately not one of the better Best Westerns I've stayed in and I'm sure there are many more hotels in Torquay better than this one. I stayed here for 2 nights and having never been to Torquay before, had a bit of trouble finding it from the map on their website. Anyway, after eventually finding it, there were no spaces in the car park although there was the usual BMW parked right outside and blocking the door - as you come to expect at every hotel. I parked in the road outside - journey over. THE STAFF: I found them to be friendly but didn't really have that much contact with them. I asked the receptionist/manager for directions in to town and although he didn't give me a map or print something from the internet...

THAT'S JUST GRAND Mr RICHARDSON??.

Advantages: Lovely Old Building. Fabulous View. Wonderful Food. Service.
Disadvantages: Shortage of Parking. Some dingy, scruffy stairs and passageways. Dirty Curtains.

...? I would like to say that we booked it because Agatha Christie spent the first night of her honeymoon there in 1914, it would not however be true as we were unaware of that slightly obscure fact until we arrived. Nor indeed were we aware that one of my great heroes; Isambard Kingdom Brunel, had any connection with the Grand. Both are commemorated there today. The operator at LateRooms.com simplified the question by enquiring if we were staying 'on business or for leisure?' That threw me, and my answer was "not quite sure, we are attending a funeral in Torquay actually". Why choose this grand old four star hotel and not somewhere rather less salubrious? We chose it because the two night, dinner bed and breakfast offer represented the best deal available on any hotel in the Torbay area for the two nights that we required. According to...

Review of Best Western The Grand Hotel - Torquay, Torquay

Torquay - a great place to be, by the sea

Advantages: Loads to do, caters for all ages
Disadvantages: In bad weather you can't appreciate the views

...Cockington you should sample the renowned Devonshire Cream Tea - scones with jam and cream. Brixham - take a boat trip across the bay and eat fresh fish and chips in Brixham. Dartmouth - home to Dartmouth Royal Naval College. Lovely historical town where you can take a boat trip down the river. Places to eat out: There are loads of places to eat out in Torquay. I would recommend any of the large chains e.g. Hogshead etc or Banx in the town centre (my favourite place to eat!) for lunch. In the evening eat anywhere in the main town centre or around the marina. A fantastic place to feast is the Edward's Brasserie in Wellswood (just up from the town centre). The food is gorgeous but it is pricey, around £15 for a main meal. Places to stay: Torquay is not short of places to stay from caravan parks to 5 star hotels (well, 1 actually...

A shabby hotel in need of updating

Advantages: Easy to find, plenty of parking
Disadvantages: A steep walk back from the town, much of the decor and facilities in desperate need of an upgrade

...This hotel is well located and easy to find, but it is a steep hill's wall away from the town of Torquay and the harbour. However there is a bus which comes up the hill fairly frequently and stops by the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we were kept waiting for several minutes whilst the hotelier was on the telephone talking to another potential guest. He didnt acknowledge us at all and never apologised for keeping us waiting. He showed me to my room which was of a very poor standard. The floor of the en-suite bathroom was covered in some grubby stuff which looked like stuck down flooring had been taken up and the adhesive not properly removed. The room was barely big enough for a large single, but two single beds were squashed in with very little space between them. The bed spreads were past thier best and one of them had...
