...For the first time we decided to take a holiday in the middle of February. We've heard Spain can be OK in the winter, so we gave it a go. We stayed in La Mata, just outside Torrevieja. As we arrived from Alicante airport (about 20 minutes away) The rain did not stop pouring down, which creates a problem in Spain as the roads do not appear to drain as in the UK. This was to be the story for much of the week, it summed up the holiday really. The first day or two were spent around La Mata, which appeared to have a lovely beach, and our apartment was nice, although there was a distinct lack of bars, restaurants etc, apart from a very nice Irish bar on the front, so we ended up eating indoors and cooking ourselves. Torre-V-Horror

Advantages: Weather, GREAT if you are a Crane Spotter

...My Parents moved to Spain around about 3 years ago, they live in Alicante. When we go visit we stay in Torrevieja. Torrevieja is in Costa Blanca Southern Spain. Torrevieja is accessed from the main coast road - the N332 We normally land in Alicante, but this time our flights were changed and we were flying into Murcia airport. When in the plane, looking out the window, it looks nice you are coming to land over the sea and onto the runway. Murcia airport is a former military base. This airport I have to say is the smallest ive seen. Torrevieja is about 25-30 minutes away from both Murcia and Alicante Airport. My parents picked us up, Parking is a nightmare at the Murica airport, and they don't seem to have any logic about parking spaces, its more park where you want. Cheap and comfortable

Advantages: Local to town centre and cheap
Disadvantages: Noisy if on road side of hotel / thin walls

.... On the whole the hotel was cheap and in an ideal spot for us at the time as it was in a central location. The town of Torrevieja was very pleasant and the beach and sea looked very inviting even in February....

Great holidays in Torrevieja

...Hi everyone!!! I only want to share my experience with all of you because it was great!!! I found a nice apartment in Torrevieja through Niumba, a holiday rental website, where you can find the perfect accommodation for anywhere you want to go at a good price in Spain and also in the rest of Europe ( Italy, Germany, France or Portugal). Once you have rented where to stay, it's easy to keep on planning your holidays. It's just what I did. Once I had rented an apartment in Torrevieja through the Niumba website, I booked a flight and started to look for interesting places to go and things to do there. Torrevieja has everything you need to spend a wonderful time, to relax and to enjoy Spain. I recommend Torrevieja and Niumba for your next holidays!!! I hope it can be useful for you. Lucy....

Review of Costa Blanca (Spain)

Only 2 stars but worthy of 4.

Advantages: Very close to all facilities. Good value for money. English spoken.
Disadvantages: A tad noisy during high season.

...I have stayed at this Torrevieja hotel several times (originally at the recommendation of my Spanish lawyers),before purchasing a property in the area. The hotel claims 2 stars but in my opinion and that of my partner, it is equal to many 4 star hotels. My lawyer explained that if they apply to be rated 4* they will have to pay much higher taxes, so they remain only 2*. The hotel is centrally located just off the main shopping street, Calle Ramon Gallud, and only a 5 minute walk from the main marina/promenade. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak excellent English. The little balconies overlooking the street are excellent places to enjoy a morning cuppa or a late nightcap:-) I'm not sure what the high season prices are but when I have stayed in September/October/November/December the price has been an absolute bargain...

...I use Alicante airport for my annual break in Spain and find it is convenient and fairly easy to use. It is situated just outside Alicante on the Costa Blanca, around 46.5km from Benidorm. It is within driving distance of Valencia, around two hours and 179km. Arrivals You would probably fly to Alicante if you were staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, Calpe, Moraira or Teulada. It is popular with budget airlines such as Easyjet and Bmibaby and there are flights from many regional airports in the UK such as East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Stansted to name a few. There are around ten car hire companies who operate out of the airport including the big names like Avis, Europcar and Hertz, these desks are located in the arrivals hall and can get busy at peak times. Its a long way....To Murcia Airport!

Advantages: Quiet, friendly and handy for many resorts
Disadvantages: Lack of transport, distance from Murcia.

...is roughly 2 hours and 25 minutes. Its a similar time from Stansted. WHERE IT SERVICES Basically, it covers a wide range of areas for holiday makers. It is roughly the same distance from tourist hotspots such as Torrevieja to the North as the more popular and busier Alicante airport (about 45 mins drive) and an ideal 30 mins drive from the golfing paradise of La Manga. I was a little suprised with the number of golf bags on the carousel until i realised how close we were to La Manga! During the winter months, its probably the best choice for those people lokoing at flying in to visit the more southerly resorts of Almanzora and Almeria regions as the airport at ALmeria has limited flights to england between October and March.
