My Toshiba Tecra M2 - Warming up to Progress
Review of Toshiba Tecra M2 - Pentium M 745 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
BawBaw
Advantages: Light, versatile, packed with features
Disadvantages: It's still a laptop
.... Comparable models retail as low as $1,029 in the U.S., with a price tag of $1300 being more common. As near as I can tell, the Tecra M2 retails in the UK for £1200 - £1700, with £1300 being about average.
◄Final Thoughts►
Weighing in at just under 5 pounds (2.3 kg), my Toshiba is growing on me. I can see the day coming when, at least for work purposes, my desktop will be retired to obscurity. I see that already with many of my colleagues, most of whom swear by docking stations and the easy portability of their notebooks. My work with graphics and large desktop-publishing projects has so far saved me from that fate. My reputation as a modern Luddite is temporarily secure--but only temporarily. Based on what I've experienced with the Tecra M2, I'll likely give in without much of a fuss. Though naturally I'll insist...

Finally a laptop that works !!
Review of Toshiba Satellite 1700-300 - C 650 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
Stoobie
Advantages: Lightweight and urban
Disadvantages: the "mouse" stick
...After a huge debacle with the manufacturers of my Advent laptop, it was decided that I was now in the market for a new one. One that worked. Thankfully, I know someone in the know, and he pointed me in the direction of the Toshiba Satellite 1700-300 series. They retail for about £750 - £850 and pack a pretty mean punch for your cash.
One of the things I hated most about a laptop was that, if you used it on your lap (which is the intended method), it tends to burn the Hell out of your legs. Am almost convinced I got prickly heat from the Advent laptop !! With the Toshiba model, my legs remained relatively cool and comfortable throughout. Coupled with the fact that it weighs a lot less than the average laptop (sorry but I didnt weigh it), this cute little black and silver number was picture-perfect on my lap as I sat and whiled...

Fuji MX 1700 - Past its sell by date ?
Review of Fujifilm MX 1700 Zoom Digital Camera by
apowis
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Replaced by serious competition
...When the MX 1700 was introduced last year, along with its bigger brother the MX 2700, it looked as though Fuji had got one over on the rest of the market with a couple of brilliant cameras, at excellent prices.
The MX 1700, with it's zoom lens and 1.5 million pixel resolution seemed the better buy, not least because its bigger brother lacked a zoom.
To get the best quality prints, you need to put the camera on 'fine' mode. Unfortunately, with the 8Mb Smartmedia card that it included, this means that you can only take 9 photos before the card it full.
I have recently added a 64 Mb card which takes the capacity up to around 90 photos which much better.
On 'fine' quality, and with a good inkjet printer you'd be hard pressed to tell the results apart from conventional prints. And with the price tumbling to below £300 since...

Dell Vostro 1700: the dark horse of notebooks
Review of Dell Vostro 1700 by
Aquillyne
Advantages: Built-in webcam, huge number of ports, clever function buttons, media button panel, nice screen
Disadvantages: Basically none except that it is slightly heavy because it contains a lot!
...for Instant Messaging or general webcam use as you basically have a webcam without it taking up any physical space whatsoever. A light next to the camera shines when it is filming so you are always aware if you are being recorded! Similar lights also alert you to the use of the microphone, Caps Lock, the hard-drive, batteries, Bluetooth or wireless. Little useful features like this are all over the Vostro 1700. A function button instantly brings up Windows calculator, and larger-screened models come with a full number pad to use with this. A "home" button instantly opens Dell Media Center for playing DVDs.
A button on the side can instantly turn on or off all the wireless capabilities of the laptop - all of them come with an adequate Wireless adaptor so that you can browse the internet without any cables, but you can also add on a Bluetooth...

Slim Toshiba DVD player performs well
Review of Toshiba SD340E by
bowdeni
Advantages: Multi Region, Good picture, slim, durable
Disadvantages: No Scart, not a recorder
...DVD was launched commercial over 10 years ago. The major manufacturers made the mistake of not licensing the technology appropriately and subsequently the cost of DVD players has fallen dramatically within the past 5 years. Some people may find it hard to justify the cost of a DVD player when they can picked up for £30, but I am going to write this review to communicate the advantages of having a medium range quality DVD player.
So firstly, why Toshiba? Toshiba have an excellant reputation for producing quality products for a great price. There are some manufacturers such as Sony, that in my opinion rely too much on their brand image to sell the good. Toshiba both provide an excellant product, more importantly quality and value. 'What hifi' have for many years ranked Toshiba as the best budget DVD player, and the Toshiba SD340E itself...

Dell Vostro 1700
Review of Dell Vostro 1700 by
Selito206
Advantages: Great all rounder, fast, durable and good pricing, value for money
Disadvantages: Some minor problems like power cable sometimes not recognised
...The dell Vostro 1700 is a good piece of technology. It have used it now for 6 months roughly and the thing i find great about dell's computers is their durability even when kept turned on for long hours (sometimes a couple of days in my case!!).
This laptop is powerful and has a good quality screen that does not get marked easyly, unlike the other new laptops from dell, where the screen gets marked easyly due to the ultra clean and shinyness of it.
I reccomend this product if you need a laptop to go, with a wide screen, full keyboard (includes the extra numbers like on the normal keyboard) and you will be using it for things like word processing, internet browsing, website development and more! All types of home and small business uses are covered with this decent laptop.
However i do not reccomend this if you intend to use...

Samsung X10 1700
Review of Samsung X10 XTC 1700 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
faffler
Advantages: Very light weight and portable
Disadvantages: Short battery life
...If you are thinking of buying this particular model then you obviously have good taste. As well as looking good the X10 1700 has all the trimmings that you could wish for in a notebook. I have yet to find something that this thing cannot run, its has made my desktop completely redundant. It can cope with all the latest hi spec games such as Sim City 4 and Command and Conquer with out slowing even a little. The screen resolution and clarity is outstanding though you can have difficulties when trying to view the screen in bright sunlight but I'm yet to see a notebook that has overcome this problem. The lay out of the computer itself has been well thought through and the shortcut keys are particularly useful and can be personalised. The built in finger print reader and the software provided for it is excellent though a little faffy to set...

Toshiba A200 - 195
Review of Toshiba Satellite A200-195 Laptop by
JJS77
Advantages: Light, Fast, Looks nice, Reliable, Value.
Disadvantages: Doesn't have a built in webcam or Bluetooth connectivity.
...I first started investigating laptops in August as I wanted to take a laptop with me to university. My main requirements was that it was to be fast enough to handle most programs so that it doesn't leave me sitting around waiting to take notes or finish a task as well as remaining portable and more importantly good value for money. I am interested in computers and am doing a computer based course, so I thought I would have to budget form around £600 - £800 for a good performing laptop, as I was going on what my friends had paid for their laptops. I was also aware that after researching a bit on the internet, I found that when you buy a laptop its important that its from a good manufacturer e.g. Acer's apparently are unreliable, Compaq's are slow performing and Sony's tend to be out of most peoples price range. However Toshiba was the one...

Toshiba Satellite M30 - Good Lookin Machine
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
terence638l
Advantages: Fast, lots of features, easy to use
Disadvantages: Problems with internal modem, infra red port has short range
...The Toshiba satellite m30 pro is a thin and sleek laptop matching the looks and requirements for todays busy and on the move users. It is literally a desktop computer packed into a small, light and easy to use 1.6GHZ, 60 Gb memory HDD and 512 MB RAM machine. I have found it not only easy to use but also fun and hassle free most of the time. (With most problems the occasional usual thing that you get with computers)
Features:
- dual Harman/kardon speakers
- Infrared port
- Wireless lan
- Internal Toshiba software modem
- Dvd-r burner
- Dvd player features (play, stop , etc buttons on the side of the laptop)

To Infinity and Beyond, Toshiba R200 Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R200 - Pentium M 753 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
skrg28
Advantages: Build Quality, Light, Small
Disadvantages: None as yet
...INFO
I have been involved with Toshiba laptops for a few years now. First in having one as a work laptop and secondly supporting them for other users.
Toshiba have the ability to create a laptop that is rugged enough to withstand daily use whilst being designed well enough to fit the daily use it was intended for.
The Portege R200 is no exception and is an exceptional laptop for the business traveller. Once given the go ahead to buy a couple of these I couldn't wait to ditch the Dell equivalents.
COST
I managed to secure 2 R200 laptops for a mere £1234 each excluding VAT from Inmac. I have however seen one on EBAY last week for £994. Now that's cheap.
FIRST THOUGHTS
When the first R200 arrived I couldn't believe the size of the box. It's so small you would think it had a couple of paperback novels in it and not a PC...
