A superb dvd player at a superb price
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
Mister-x
Advantages: Value for money,Nice looks, superb quality playback, wealth of sockets available
Disadvantages: selling like hot cakes, needs chip to be made multi-region capable, no scart lead.
...The Toshiba SD220E is my 3rd DVD player I have bought. Purchasing one is a veritable minefield of new acroynms to get your head around. My first 2 dvd players I bought because they were cheap, unfortunatly the players themselves were too.
The Toshiba SD220E on the other hand is one hell of a piece of kit for your money. I payed £134.99 including vat and delivery from www.dvdplayers.co.uk for a pre multi-region chipped model in silver.
The dvd player itself is a very sleek and stylish looking addition to anyones tv rack. One thing that suprised me was the narrow width of the player. It comes with every socket on the back of the dvd player you could ask for. It does not however have analogue outs for 5.1 sound as the player does not contain a decoder. It does however have coaxial and optical outputs if one decides to connect a 5...

INTRODUCTION
........................
I have been searching for a DVD player for a while due to the lack of ability the Playstation 2 has of playing DVD's well. Now my playstation 2 has broken I decided I needed to get myself a stand alone DVD player instead of playing them on my Playstation 2.
MY VIEW ON THE PLAYER
......................................
I had been very aware of the Toshiba SD220E after reading many glowing reviews of Toshiba's budget DVD range. This DVD player is part of an award winning range that came out a couple of years ago which including the SD210.
Also on dooyoo.
BUYING THE PLAYER
...............................
I happened to find this player on ebay so I thought I would bid, As it happens I won the bid at a total cost of £20...

Top Tosh
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
ScottyG
Advantages: Price, Picture, Sound
Disadvantages: Remote control design
...When you have a budget of £200 to spend on a DVD player that has a high rating from respected Entertainment magazines you could be looking for a very long time. That’s just what I did. It took me around 2 months to decide what DVD player to opt for. In the end it came down to a five-star LG DVD player or a five-star Toshiba 220 DVD player. I opted for the Toshiba.
Despite the trouble I had of actually getting it (see my review on Unbeatable). I am very happy with my Tosh. The player is accompanied with an audio/video cable, a remote control (with batteries) and a neat, coherent user manual. The price then was £180, now it can be obtained for as low as £110.
The Toshiba SD220E is CD-RW, CD-R and MP3 compatible. It is Dolby Digital and ‘Spatializer virtual surround’ integrated, offering premium sound and picture...

Great Performance for a Great Price
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
Rato
Advantages: Picture Quality, Sound Quality, Price, Ease of Use, Build Quality
Disadvantages: None
...The SD220E provides fantastic picture quality (I use the Movie2 setting for most disks) with none of the problems I've seen with other players when reproducing large areas of black.
The sound quality is superb (although I have only a two speaker setup, so I can't comment on the surround sound) even when used as an MP3 CD player. It's not a match for a dedicated audio CD player, but what do you expect ?
The system is simple to set up with a wide range of outputs to suit most setups.
The box is very stylish and the interface (mainly though the remote control and on-screen menus) is very intuitive. It has been mentioned that the buttons on the remote are fiddly, although I find the RC unit very easy to navigate and use, even when watching a movie with the lights off. If you misplace the RC however, you find that only a very...

The best introduction to DVD
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
HappyHarry
Advantages: Beautiful playback, Stylish, More outputs than sticks and shaken
Disadvantages: No decoder (what do you expect at this price?), Very sought after
...OK, so you can pay 60 - 80 GBP for a DVD player, from the likes of Alba, Crown and other cheap and cheerful 'manufacturers'. Just go to your Supermarket, major electrical retailer or even Toys R Us (now what's the character for a reverse R?). But you would be throwing away your money. Before buying any non-commodity item (electrical especially) a little research pays dividends (especially at the Co-op).
Those same Supermarkets, along with more traditional Newsagents and bookshops, offer a number of What? consumer magazines. Then there's a raft of helpful 'comparison' web sites too.
The SD220E is a five star champion across the board. Like all entry DVD players, it is compact and bijou. It comes in black or silver and more recently in multi-region format.
So what do you get?
Well firstly, a picture quality that is superb. Clear...

New to DVD? This is for you!
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
iancognito
Advantages: Great first time buy, sleek design, value for money, tons of features
Disadvantages: Fiddly remote, 1cm too wide for my corner unit!
...For a long time I viewed the DVD market with scepticism, then came this mid-range budget player and my whole viewpoint changed.
I was looking for a player that didn't cost the earth but would give me access to features that I couldn't get with VHS such Zoom modes, angle changes and the obvious improvements of both picture and sound quality. I was looking for the basics first and any extras as a bonus. As it turned out I was in luck with the SD220-E.
The first thing that struck me about the player itself was the sleek design of the unit. Whilst much of the player is silver, the front fascia is covered in the main by a satinised clear perspex-like strip that houses the basic function buttons of the machine. All of this is positioned below the CD tray and incorporates a crystal clear LCD display. This is dimmable via the remote...

The best sub 300 pound DVD Player there is.
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by
SHadleigh
Advantages: Cheap and very impressive
Disadvantages: Remote a bit too fiddly
...The things that most people look for in a good quality DVD player are the picture quality, the sound quailty, the appearance and also price. On all these 4 counts the SD220E comes out with very high marks.
The picture quality is great, very clear and belies the fact that it is considered a lower end DVD player due to the price (I paid £110 from Amazon.com). None of the problems I have encountered with other DVD players is evident (this being the shocking ability of some to mess up a large black area of the screen and make it look like a mini rainbow (never good for the mood effect required in a film!).
Sound wise too this player scores well. Surround sound adds a whole new dimension to a great movie and when it is as clear as this then all the better. Able to play audio CDs as well (although with slightly less clarity but if you...

Slim Toshiba DVD player performs well
Review of Toshiba SD340E by
bowdeni
Advantages: Multi Region, Good picture, slim, durable
Disadvantages: No Scart, not a recorder
...DVD was launched commercial over 10 years ago. The major manufacturers made the mistake of not licensing the technology appropriately and subsequently the cost of DVD players has fallen dramatically within the past 5 years. Some people may find it hard to justify the cost of a DVD player when they can picked up for £30, but I am going to write this review to communicate the advantages of having a medium range quality DVD player.
So firstly, why Toshiba? Toshiba have an excellant reputation for producing quality products for a great price. There are some manufacturers such as Sony, that in my opinion rely too much on their brand image to sell the good. Toshiba both provide an excellant product, more importantly quality and value. 'What hifi' have for many years ranked Toshiba as the best budget DVD player, and the Toshiba SD340E itself...

Toshiba A200 - 195
Review of Toshiba Satellite A200-195 Laptop by
JJS77
Advantages: Light, Fast, Looks nice, Reliable, Value.
Disadvantages: Doesn't have a built in webcam or Bluetooth connectivity.
...I first started investigating laptops in August as I wanted to take a laptop with me to university. My main requirements was that it was to be fast enough to handle most programs so that it doesn't leave me sitting around waiting to take notes or finish a task as well as remaining portable and more importantly good value for money. I am interested in computers and am doing a computer based course, so I thought I would have to budget form around £600 - £800 for a good performing laptop, as I was going on what my friends had paid for their laptops. I was also aware that after researching a bit on the internet, I found that when you buy a laptop its important that its from a good manufacturer e.g. Acer's apparently are unreliable, Compaq's are slow performing and Sony's tend to be out of most peoples price range. However Toshiba was the one...

Toshiba Satellite M30 - Good Lookin Machine
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
terence638l
Advantages: Fast, lots of features, easy to use
Disadvantages: Problems with internal modem, infra red port has short range
...The Toshiba satellite m30 pro is a thin and sleek laptop matching the looks and requirements for todays busy and on the move users. It is literally a desktop computer packed into a small, light and easy to use 1.6GHZ, 60 Gb memory HDD and 512 MB RAM machine. I have found it not only easy to use but also fun and hassle free most of the time. (With most problems the occasional usual thing that you get with computers)
Features:
- dual Harman/kardon speakers
- Infrared port
- Wireless lan
- Internal Toshiba software modem
- Dvd-r burner
- Dvd player features (play, stop , etc buttons on the side of the laptop)
- IEEE port
- Serial port to add monitor
- Expansion card slot
- 3 USB ports
