Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba
Review of Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive by
skrg28
Advantages: Small, looks very cool
Disadvantages: Noe really, does what it says it does
...write CD's etc and play DVD's, all for free and they are not the usual trial versions.
I did have a quick look at the user manuals, which appear to be user friendly and understandable but at the end of it, its only a CD drive, how hard can it be.
OPERATING
Inserting a CD is easy enough. There is a chromed button with operating light on the top front of the unit that you press to open the drive. Insert your CD as normal and off you go. The unit reads/writes at the following speeds.
read: 24x (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW) 8x (DVD-ROM) 4x (DVD-R, DVD-RW) 1x (DVD-RAM)
write: 24x (CD-R/-RW)
ELSE
As with all Toshiba products you get excellent product support. There is a good support section at www.toshiba.co.uk
I quite like this unit. Looks good and functions well without being no the heavy side. Especially like the easy USB connection...

Toshiba SPM30
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
nigelcwm
Advantages: screen size, overall features
Disadvantages: price
...with this one. It has a rectangular touch pad for moving the cursor and is very responsive, occasionally the unit carries out a left mouse click without actually having one pressed which can be irritating, the secret is to keep your fingers away from the pad unless moving the cursor.
The speed of processing is good for most things. It boots up fast and is very stable once up and running. I am running XP and using MS Office 2003 and have experienced no idiosyncratic crashes.
It has a DVD\CD RW drive and this is slow to come up to speed but I have never had a problem with either DVDs or CDs. With its 100mb wireless network card I connect to my wireless home network and once again it is ultra reliable I boot up the card connects to my network and then I just work away happily with no problems. It has infra bred but I don't use it. It has a fire...

What to write on a DVD-RW?
Review of Imation Corp. DVD+RW 4.7 GB 4x by
Ollydv
Advantages: Good quality, nice price, oooh a spindle
Disadvantages: same as most dvd-rw's
...Ok so yesterday I wrote a review on a CD-R, so I thought that I would move on and review a DVD+RW today.
These aren't the discs I usually use for my DVDs, actually I have only used them once, but I think I will be using them more in the future. They are great. They are a nice price compared to a lot of others, and they are pretty durable.
Reliability…
In my CD-R review I mentioned errors while burning CDs, and errors while burning DVDs was pretty much mandatory for me, until I started using these. I have only ever come across 2 errors, and they were my fault anyway for opening the drive in the middle of burning. Before I bought a DVD-RW drive, I used to make VCDs most of the time, as they were quick and easy. But since I have been using these, there is no need for VCDs as the discs give me no trouble at all.
Use…

Freecom Classic DVD+/-RW *Double Layer.
Review of Freecom Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer by
derek-j-a
Advantages: Can be moved from PC to PC, lighweight, robust, reliable, fast
Disadvantages: None so far...
...Rewriter that most computers have these days).***
With both drive bays taken up on my PC, I decided on an external DVD Writer drive. Although more expensive than internal drive, it could easily be connected to my lap top should I wish to take my masterpieces and inflict them on people who didn't own DVD players. I jest of course!
In PC world, there were several external DVD drives on the shelves, but having had an external CD writer by Freecom which had been extremely reliable, I opted for the High Speed (USB2) Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer model. It was the most expensive at just over £120 at the time (much cheaper now, see below), but the best available.
The Hardware:
In the box was a black DVD RW which was slim and lightweight (it was also available in white), the USB connector cable, the power transformer/cable (PSU- power...

Lacie DVD +/- RW
Review of LaCie Dual DVD+/-RW DVD±RW drive by
markays
Advantages: reliable, burns cds well, good compatibility
Disadvantages: dvd writing speed slow, not very portable
...Features:
Can Burn: DVD +/- RW, CD RW
Using: Firewire, USB 2.0, USB 1 (only at slower speeds)
Operating Systems: Windows (all), Mac
Free Software: Roxio Suite, WinDVD Player
Speeds: 4x Typical for DVD, 32x Typical for CDs
Other Important Features: Burn Proof
Installation:
The installation was very simple under Windows XP, I managed to get the drive working with Nero, Windows and all my dvd burning software very quickly.
Reliability:
Every CD and DVD i have burnt has worked perfectly. The cds can be read much faster and rarely fail, even after using in over 120 pcs one after another. This writer burns much more professionally than other writers i have.
Portability:
None, this thing is heavier than a brick, don't even consider carrying it anywhere. I think it's ideal if you've got more than one pc at home (or...

Toshiba A200-195
Review of Toshiba Satellite A200-195 - Core 2 Duo T5300 1.73 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
davidjp1990
Advantages: Great Sound, 2GB RAM, Quite Quick, 4 Hours Battery life, looks, Bright Widescreen, WiFi
Disadvantages: Weight...............that's it
...The Toshiba Satellite A200-195. I first saw this product on the comet website, as i was looking for my first laptop to use at home and at school, the price looked good for the specification of the laptop.
So what do you get for that price:
A Dual Core Processor that runs at 1.73 GHz (like having a 3.46 GHz pentium 4)
A huge 2GB of high performance RAM (667 mhz DDR2)
A decent 120GB hard drive
An integrated DVD-RW
A 15.4" Bright Widescreen
Excellent WiFi and wired Internet
An amazing up to 4 Hours battery life (I have only got upto 3:45 Hours, if you were to run linux you could get it upto 5 hours)
Windows Vista Home Premium
A very very good sound system
The main thing i was looking for was a good battery life. I had a choice of this Toshiba (4 Hours) , an Apple Macbook that cost twice as much (6 Hours), a Sony Vaio almost...

Pioneer DVR-105 Internal DVD-RW Drive
Review of Pioneer DVR 105 by
china_wolf
Advantages: High DVD/CD compatibility after firmware update, it's Pioneer need another reason?
Disadvantages: Before flash update the drive sucks, 4 speed is dated now
...of electronic entertainment, not as big as Sony but they can hold their own. The drive itself is very plain on the front and is light grey instead of the classic beige colour of PCs. Although it's simple, it isn't ugly or boring to look at at all, a very nice drive to have seen on your PC. This is a DVD-RW drive so it is only compatible with DVD-R and DVD-RW media, not the DVD+R and DVD+RW (attention to the - and the +). This is important because you don't want to be paying for the wrong type of DVD discs.
Since this is one of the earlier drives, it can only write to one layer discs (4.7GB discs). This drive is an IDE drive so any standard PC can have it installed for immediate DVD reading and writing. Well of course it depends if the owner of the PC is knowledgable in the arts of PC upgrading.
This drive is the DVR-105 drive which is the OEM...
