Quality, Affordable Back-Up Hard Drive
Review of Iomega HDD External Desktop Hard Drive 320 GB by  robert232

Advantages: Very Fast, Efficient, Stylish, Easy Installation
Disadvantages: Only a minor point the 1m usb cable

...bigger as its only 1 meter long, something to bear in mind if you plan to have it as a permanant fixture on your computer desk. Installation manual was very easy to read and very helpful with diagrams. So easy I didn't use it though.Plug up the cables, usb and power then power on using the on/off switch located at the back of the drive and away you go, Installation on a Vista Computer was lightning fast and was detected immediately and the driver was installed in a matter of 10/15 seconds. It is very quiet in operation and has a quality blue light which flashes during data transfer.I used Acronis True Image 10 to make a full backup of my 320GB hard drive in less than 45 minutes although it only had a 100gb of data to backup. I thoroughly recommend this external hard drive to all.... Read review

Seagate barracuda SATA 320gb hard drive review
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by  simpson123

Advantages: Fast, Value for Money, Quiet, 5yr warranty
Disadvantages: none that i know

...to transfer data between pc's without using a network, or for backup storage on many pc's. Also with external hard drives from seagate you only get a 1yr warranty, instead of 5yrs for internal drives like this one. The formatted usable size is 298gb, not 320gb, it is very quiet I do not notice it at all. It is lightning fast thanks to its 16mb cache which helps make windows and programs load up quicker. The downside with the low price I paid was that as it was OEM (original equipment manufacturer) hard drive, this means that it is for computer manufactures and the hard drive is the only item incuded, so there is no instruction manual, or the sata cable to connect your hard drive to the motherboard. I had to buy the cable seperatly, but this was only a couple of quid. However nnon OEM drives come with the cable included. Although... Read review

External Hard-drive fit for rugged adventures
Review of LaCie Rugged Hard Disk Hard drive 250 GB by  yassarikhan786

Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops
Disadvantages: Fairly high price

...they have less than what they state. For e.g. a 320 GB hard-drive will have about 290 GB, which is quite a chunk away from the stated amount. So, looking at the LaCie external hard-drive you will be looking at a memory capacity of 230-240 GB, which in this case is not a large chunk, but is still considerable. There is no known reason why all hard-drives (including the LaCie) have less memory than stated, it may be due to the internal disk within the outer case not being able to hold the stated amount or it may be that company's want to make a profit out of its customers. No on really knows. If you don't believe me about the memory capacity of a hard drive being less than stated, you can yourself check your hard-drives capacity by going into 'My Computer' and then right clicking the computer hard-drive icon and going into its properties... Is it really worth the money?
Review of Toshiba Hard drive 320 GB by  tomliverpool

Advantages: Huge memory
Disadvantages: Some of Toshiba's external hard drives have a separate power cable

...I recently bought a Toshiba 320gb extrenal hard drive off ebay to store my mp3's, movies, documents etc. The capacity of the drive is awesome. 320gb is almost too big. It was easy to install and I had it going within minutes. The downfall of the hard drive I purchased, is that it is big, it is an eye sore, and it does not connect to your PC/laptop via usb. It has a separate power cable. My advice would be to buy a smaller capcity hard drive which connect via usb. 320gb is far too much unless you have endless amounts of files. For £90, it does what it says on the tin. However, DO NOT pay over £90 for a Toshiba hard drive!... Read review

Nice little box
Review of Western Digital Essential External Hard Drive USB 2.0 320 GB by  orrin31

Advantages: Large capacity, quiet when not in use
Disadvantages: Can in noisy when in use

...I bought this about 6 months ago, as my internal 80gb hard drive was getting full and I needed something to back up my MP3 files and documents. I also planned on transferring the family camcorder videos to DVD, so I needed some extra storage. I’ve always wanted a Network Attached Storage device (NAS) but they seemed expensive. A NAS is a small box that connects to your computer via a network, using your router, and has a hard drive built in. After looking at a range of external storage devices, I decided on this external USB hard drive. There were several sizes but 320gb seemed right based on the price. Setting it up was very easy, just plugged in the power and connected it to the computer via the supplied USB cable. It was already pre-formatted with FAT32 but I prefer NTFS, as it includes compression, so it may increase the size... Read review

Great storage gadget
Review of Seagate Hard drive 320 GB by  king_goonie

Advantages: Vast storage capacity, attractive, easy to use
Disadvantages: Rather large, power supply takes up space

...For a few months now I have been having trouble with hard drive space on my computer, as well as a couple of major system failures that resulted in alot of stuff being wiped off my machine. For this reason I decided to invest in an external hard drive, where I could both store and backup my precious files. A GOOD INVESTMENT Up until the most recent time I had to reinstall Windows, losing files in the process, I was'convinced I would never have to backup stuff - as long as I don't fill my computer will junk, everything will be fine! Well, I was wrong. Systems fail all the time, regardless of reliability, and so I think it is important for people to consider purchasing devices such as the Seagate Barracuda External Harddrive. FEATURES It comes in a range of capacities, including 80, 160, 250 and 320 gigabyte models. This is a good... Read review

Wester Digital External Hard Drive 80GB USB 2.0
Review of Western Digital Essential External Hard Drive USB 2.0 80 GB by  blackhawk204

Advantages: Portable, easy to use, never failed on me yet!
Disadvantages: Perhaps only the disc size, but it has taken me 2 years to fill it!

...Wester Digital, a respected brand name, and i agree! I have owned the unit now for around 2 years, and have 0 problems. My internal hard drive has died on me twice but my external one, never! This 80gb HDD is perfect for storing large files, home movies, photo albums, music etc. It's ideal when transfering data from one place to another, simply unplug it, plug it in elsehwre and hey presto! It supports drag & drop so moving files couldn't be easier. Standard power adpater with 3-pin plug, and USB 2.0 connection to your pc, mac, server etc. It is easily recognised by each operating system and i have yet to find one that doesn't support the unit. Plug it in, wait around 30secs and it's up and running. Can be stored horizontally, and if you have 3 like me, you can stack them perfectly, or store them vertically... Read review

Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba
Review of Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive by  skrg28

Advantages: Small, looks very cool
Disadvantages: Noe really, does what it says it does

...Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive INTRO Along with my recent office purchase of the R200 laptop and seeing as it was minus a CDROM I bought an external CD unit. I originally made the mistake of buying the DVD ROM version and at £85 that was next to useless. So I returned that and got the Toshiba External USB2 Combo Drive. There are a few different ones out there, this one wrote CD's and read DVD's. IMPRESSIONS When you open the box up your greeted with what first looks like an MP3 player. Size wise its not much bigger than a CD. The finish of this one was brushed aluminium to match the R200 laptop. Quality is easily very high, just like Toshiba's other offerings. If nothing else the Combo drive looks cool. CONNECTION The combo drive is connected up with a standard USB 2 cable. Not external power supplies are needed... Read review

Iomega HDD External Hard Drive 250 GB
Review of Iomega HDD External Hard Drive 250 GB by  Bunchan

Advantages: 250GB capacity, 2 firewire port, 1 usb ports
Disadvantages: alittle bit expensive

...Hello again and welcome to Chan's new toys! Just had a box delieverd to my home 2 weeks ago which i hadn't ordered, someone at work had given me new hardware to help with a task I've got to do. How well people know me, give me new harware to play with and i'll do any work they want! Anyway, opening up my jiffy bag I find a box with Media Centre writen in big black letters. MY first thought is what on earth is a media centre??? The box seemed a bit small for a TV and DVD player, let alone surround sound, so i decided that putting on my glasses so i could focus on the box was probably a good idea. It turns out a media centre is a rather large USB and firewire hard drive, with a few extras thrown in to make it look special. What you get is a 250Gb drive, 2 firewire ports, 1 usb port to go to your machine and 2 usb ports to connect... Read review
