.... It is still expandable up to 2048Mb, and of cos, it's a DDR RAM. It's faster than the SD RAMs, duh! Compared to the iBook which can only support up to 640Mb Ram, this one is surely far ahead! The Hard disk capacity is claimed to be 40 GB 4200 rpm S.M.A.R.T. but it seems to only have around 37.9GB when i last checked it. The HD is from Toshiba( also used by Apple) and is shock proof. This model also comes with a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive with a maximum speed of read 24x CD-ROM, 24x CD-R, 12x CD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM, 4x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, and writing is at 24x CD-R, 4x CD-RW. There's no burning capabilites for DVDs. It's just a combo drive. Burning CDs nw can be much faster compared to the external Benq CD burner which i previously had. Advantages: Compact, good hard drive space and processing speed

.... Furthermore, although there are two speakers on either side of the laptop, which produces clear, sharp sounds, the big problem is that there is no bass, and it’s not very loud. So forget playing those Metallica CD’s on here! There is also only 1 USB port, and only a 1 year warranty which costs around £200 to extend every year (worth it if you’re likely to drop it!). It has no CD/W CD/RW, only a floppy disk which is common in most laptops today. ***Overall opinion*** Although designed extremely well by Toshiba, with good features, this laptop is very average compared with other laptops on the market. For a small and light laptop, the speed is very fast. It loads PDF documents faster than I have seen most desktops! With this version you can go over the limit of, for example, a 700 mb CDR and the program will automatically tell you it will need more than 1 CDR. This makes backing up large amounts of data very easy. DVD recordable drives are coming down in price almost weekly, soon they will be a standard feature on most new PC`s, and with this in mind Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum will be an extremely wise addition to your software collection. ...drive, the retail drive is called DVR-A05 and it's basically the same but with more extras than the OEM and costs more to. What's the extras? The A05 would get bundled software MyDVD Video Suite 4 and Instant CD/DVD v6.5, 1x DVD-R and 1x DVD-RW discs, 1x IDE cable, instruction manual, warrantee card and a shiny retail box. The OEM just gets Instant CD/DVD v6.5, but hey it's cheaper for a reason right? The instruction manual needs a little help, but at least it's concise and straight to the point of what you need to do with it. Why are instructions always in black and white for PC stuff? How fast is this drive? 4x write to DVD-R, 2x write for DVD-RW, 16x write for CD-R, 8x write for CD-RW, 32x read for CD and 6x read for DVD. It can churn out DVDs in about 15 minutes (very fast compared to the 1x drives that do it in over 1 hour), and CD... Read review

...write CD's etc and play DVD's, all for free and they are not the usual trial versions. I did have a quick look at the user manuals, which appear to be user friendly and understandable but at the end of it, its only a CD drive, how hard can it be. OPERATING Inserting a CD is easy enough. There is a chromed button with operating light on the top front of the unit that you press to open the drive. Insert your CD as normal and off you go. The unit reads/writes at the following speeds. read: 24x (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW) 8x (DVD-ROM) 4x (DVD-R, DVD-RW) 1x (DVD-RAM) write: 24x (CD-R/-RW) ELSE As with all Toshiba products you get excellent product support.
