Toshiba A200 - 195
Review of Toshiba Satellite A200-195 Laptop by
JJS77
Advantages: Light, Fast, Looks nice, Reliable, Value.
Disadvantages: Doesn't have a built in webcam or Bluetooth connectivity.
...brand that I had heard nothing but praise for, whether it was their reliability, good value, high build quality and good battery performance. So I carried on researching for about 3 weeks as it was a major purchase for me to go to university with, as my student budget hardly stretches over the necessities as it is. I found myself eliminating a lot of the manufacturers from my comparisons due to reliability issues and general feel of the laptops for example a HP laptop's touchpad just doesn't feel right to me, it feels cheap and sticky, it's a personal opinion but it's a laptop so the user is stuck using the peripherals installed on it e.g. touchpad and keyboard. I was aware that the best deals are to be had online, and thought I'd settle on a Toshiba, preferably one from the Satellite range, as they seem to be the good performance ones...

To Infinity and Beyond, Toshiba R200 Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R200 - Pentium M 753 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
skrg28
Advantages: Build Quality, Light, Small
Disadvantages: None as yet
....
The R200 arrived in its original Toshiba packing. Opening the box up you find that Toshiba send you what you need and not 100 CD's of trial software and AOL internet. Inside the packaging you get the laptop, Recovery CD, Power Supply and a manual.
The actual laptop is shrink wrapped to a sturdy piece of cardboard and is secured well enough to keep it safe.
QUALITY
Now my next surprise was touching the laptop for the first time. I honestly couldn't believe how light the unit was. If you turned the cardboard back over so that you couldn't see the laptop you would all most think that the laptop wasn't there. The R200 weighs in at a light 1.29Kg. Nothing.
DETAIL
The power supply is tiny on this. At last a small laptop with an even smaller power supply. The battery is a Lithium Ion with around 5 hours operating time depending on what your...

Toshiba R100 - very small laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R100 - Pentium M 900 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
koobra
Advantages: Size
Disadvantages: Spec
...I bought my first (and still only) laptop, Toshiba Portege R100, four years ago. Yes, I went completely mad and spent £1800 for a laptop with small screen (12.1"), poor resolution (1024x768), slow CPU (900MHz), just a bit of RAM (256MB DDR), tiny HDD (30GB) and no internal optic drive.
OK, it didn't sound as miserable back then as it sounds right now. I just wanted ultra portable laptop. And I got it. It weight only 1.1kg, and is only 2cm thick. Has most necessary (and couple unnecessary) bits build in, like: network card, wireless network card, modem, mono input (3.5mm), stereo output (3.5mm), two USB2.0, 15 pin VGA output, PCIMCIA II slot, SD memory card reader, docking/port replicator connection, second RAM slot for memory upgrade (up to 1256MB).
Toshiba added also second, high capacity battery (connected via port replicator...

Toss out this Toshiba
Review of Toshiba Satellite 1800-204 - C 1 GHz - 13.3" TFT by
funphobic2
Advantages: Compact, good hard drive space and processing speed
Disadvantages: Its durability, and has become out-dated
...and a picture guide for those (like myself) who don’t have the patience to read through all of the written guides.
***Support***
I’ve never needed to call Toshiba about anything as my brother is extremely computer literate, but I’ve heard mainly positive comments about the Toshiba technical support system. If you did lose any info or drivers, browse through the website to download the drivers.
http://uk.computers.toshibaeurope.com/cgibin/ToshibaCSG/csgnationalentrypage.jsp?service=UK&from=http%3A//www.toshiba.co.uk/
***Overall advantages***
The biggest pro’s for the laptop are its design; Firstly, it is light. At 2.6kg (including battery), which is ideal for taking to work or university. Along with the power adapter and the bag, it comes to about 3.1kg in total. Overall size is 31.7 x 27.9. x 3.9 cm quite small compared with some...

Toshiba's top of the line notebook
Review of Toshiba Tecra S1 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 15" TFT by
jcakoh
Advantages: Sleek design, very powerful, reliable, large screen and typical premium quality as expected from Toshiba
Disadvantages: Heavy and a little large. this is a very protable lap top but you can't exactly throw it around due to it's weight and slightly larger then normal size
...Toshiba is probably the most credible and reputable maker of notebook computers. The Tecra S1 is one of Toshiba's top of the line notebooks.
The notebook is very stylishly designed, better looking than Sony's notebooks in my opinion. The only bad points about the design is that the surface is easer to scratch then the softer surfaces of notebooks made by Dell or Acer, but this isn't a big worry.
The speakers, keyboard, pointing devices (2 of them), and power button are well located and the indicator lights on the front are extremely useful for determining what mode the lap top is in (ie. wirelesss mode, whether the battery is charging, whether the AC power is connected) after you've worked out what each light is for.
The notebook's biggest strength is it's power. It is a large hard drive (60GB), high amount of RAM (512MB...

Toshiba A210-11P portable computer, not laptop
Review of Toshiba Satellite A210-11P - Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
mekon88
Advantages: Powerful, fast, quiet, good gaming
Disadvantages: Short battery 1 hour and a bit normally
...I bought this mainly for the graphics card, I was impressed with the desktop version so when my laptop died I thought "ill get a laptop with the same graphics as my desktop" bought in bennetts for a very reasonable price (100 pounds UNDER toshiba website RRP at the time)
The machine is smooth, and fast, and with service pack 1 installed the webcam is now reliable!!!
The integrated webcam is perfectly usable in most conditions however in low light the picture can look noisy (grainy).
The integrated speakers are high quality and do not buzz even at very high volumes.
The screen is very clear and clean, infact my friend who has a 17 inch HP which is only a few months older was looking at mine with envious eyes.
The media player buttons are responsive if a little limited.
The touchpad with its dual functionality is very good...

Quality Laptop
Review of Toshiba Satellite A30 - 714 by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: Fast Computer
Disadvantages: Not good for games
...programs. These are not needed, they are simply rubbish.
However the power management is a great thing from Toshiba. You have 3 settings for when it's run on battery "power", "Normal", "Power save". But you can alter every little bit of them.
You can change how much power is allocated to the processor, the brightness of the screen. But you can change these attributes depending on how much power is left in the battery. So you can set power save to use more power when the battery is full than when it is half full.
This is really easy to do and a great little program on the laptop.
You can also change how it reacts when you close the lid. It can go to standby, hibernate or just stay on. I use hibernate, because by the time you've lifted the lid fully up, the computer is back up and running, it's THAT fast!
There's also the drag...

The Toshiba L20 - My laptop of choice
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 - Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz - 15" TFT by

Disadvantages: Fairly small hard-drive
...of their files.
Third, the laptop comes bundled with alot of pre-installed and optional software. Now some may say that it is often unfair for companies to bundle in their own software as it often adds to the price, but in this case we can see that the price remains incredibly low. Importantly, Toshiba's ConfigFree Software which is brilliant in the detection of wireless connections and also in its troubleshooting techniques for detecting errors in attempting to connect to wireless network.
Fourth, unlike some companies, this software REALLY IS OPTIONAL. It can be removed easily and swiftly, and reinstalled again, if necessary, just as fast. A | | |
