...could find slimmer DVD players, many will comprimise on picture and sound quality. The Toshiba SD340E is a DVD player that will look asethically pleasing under a TV. I already antiscipated that the Toshiba SD340E would not contain a scart lead and bought a fairly decent £20 one myself. You can pick them up much cheaper, but I would recommend that when using a DVD player the quality of the Toshiba SD340E , I'd suggest spending about the same as me, the difference is apparent. So how does the Toshiba SD340E perform? Very well is the answer, and considerably better than cheaper DVD players. 'What hifi' even suggest that the Toshiba SD340E performs aswell as £200 DVD players, so the quality is assured. The colour is natural, and provides a picture with deep darks and much clarity. ...brand that I had heard nothing but praise for, whether it was their reliability, good value, high build quality and good battery performance. So I carried on researching for about 3 weeks as it was a major purchase for me to go to university with, as my student budget hardly stretches over the necessities as it is. I found myself eliminating a lot of the manufacturers from my comparisons due to reliability issues and general feel of the laptops for example a HP laptop's touchpad just doesn't feel right to me, it feels cheap and sticky, it's a personal opinion but it's a laptop so the user is stuck using the peripherals installed on it e.g. touchpad and keyboard. I was aware that the best deals are to be had online, and thought I'd settle on a Toshiba, preferably one from the Satellite range, as they seem to be the good performance ones... Read review

...INFO I have been involved with Toshiba laptops for a few years now. First in having one as a work laptop and secondly supporting them for other users. Toshiba have the ability to create a laptop that is rugged enough to withstand daily use whilst being designed well enough to fit the daily use it was intended for. The Portege R200 is no exception and is an exceptional laptop for the business traveller. Once given the go ahead to buy a couple of these I couldn't wait to ditch the Dell equivalents. COST I managed to secure 2 R200 laptops for a mere £1234 each excluding VAT from Inmac. I have however seen one on EBAY last week for £994. Now that's cheap. FIRST THOUGHTS When the first R200 arrived I couldn't believe the size of the box. It's so small you would think it had a couple of paperback novels in it and not a PC... Read review

.... Furthermore, although there are two speakers on either side of the laptop, which produces clear, sharp sounds, the big problem is that there is no bass, and it’s not very loud. So forget playing those Metallica CD’s on here! There is also only 1 USB port, and only a 1 year warranty which costs around £200 to extend every year (worth it if you’re likely to drop it!). It has no CD/W CD/RW, only a floppy disk which is common in most laptops today. ***Overall opinion*** Although designed extremely well by Toshiba, with good features, this laptop is very average compared with other laptops on the market. For a small and light laptop, the speed is very fast. It loads PDF documents faster than I have seen most desktops! Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.

My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. What follows is a brief discussion of the Toshiba Portege 3500 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative. Of all the tablet PC's currently on the market the Toshiba Portégé 3500 has the best performance of all the systems because it uses the Intel Pentium III-M 1.33 GHz processor and a fast hard drive. ...itself is, well, Toshiba. I could leave it at that, it explains itself. Toshiba are in my eyes one of the best makers of TV's, they are probably vying for the top spot with Sony. I had originally had my heart set on a beautiful Sony Vega, but finding the three grand was a minor hitch. I was told by the bloke in the store (TGS Electricals, believe me they are great!) that Toshiba are just as good, they just don't have the marketing surrounding them, so you'd presume they weren't a top player. On looking at their range of TV's, and seeing them in store, I was hooked, and I am glad I didn't lose an arm and a leg to get the health insurance money to pay for a Sony! What can I say about the picture? If you, as a typical Brit, are used to a horrible little 21" TV, this thing will blow you away. The extra few inches make all the difference... Read review
