...INFO
I have been involved with Toshiba laptops for a few years now. First in having one as a work laptop and secondly supporting them for other users.
Toshiba have the ability to create a laptop that is rugged enough to withstand daily use whilst being designed well enough to fit the daily use it was intended for.
The PortegeR200 is no exception and is an exceptional laptop for the business traveller. Once given the go ahead to buy a couple of these I couldn't wait to ditch the Dell equivalents.
COST
I managed to secure 2 R200 laptops for a mere Ł1234 each excluding VAT from Inmac. I have however seen one on EBAY last week for Ł994. Now that's cheap.
FIRST THOUGHTS
When the first R200 arrived I couldn't believe the size of the box. It's so small you would think it had a couple of paperback novels in it and not a PC...
Advantages: Wireless networking, Very Light, Very Fast, Good battery, Sensitive touch pad, Nice design Disadvantages: Small screen, Sensitive touch pad
...I bought my laptop in march for Ł1,300 and it is fantastic, it is a lot better than the previous Toshiba laptop I purchased which was also very good. I am yet to find a fault with Toshiba's products and service. I damaged my old laptop twice and both imes my warranty dealt with it brilliantly. In my opinion they are second only to Sony.
Weight and size are very important to me, so this is ideal. The battery is great it lasts me 5 to six hours depending on the task, which is a lot better than any laptop I've had before. The wireless LAN is also very good, easy to set up and works a charm. The touch pad has a few little problems as it has too many functions, e.g. certain parts of it will send you back to the last internet page and other parts will scroll a page when you just want to move the cursor. I suppose it is a good feature if...
Advantages: stylish design, good display quality, convenient QWERTY keyboard Disadvantages: poor battery life, Windows language support issue, poor headphone sound, miniUSB audio jack
...I purchased a new ToshibaPortege 710 under VDA GPS(Vodafone) branding in Germany for about 100 Euro, and I must say that in my opinion the device has few, if any, competitors for the price, but I discovered a few drawbacks which I found more or less disappointing:
1) The battery life is really poor compared to a budget-class mobile phone I previously had. I've been using the phone for 3 weeks only, but the battery runs from fully charged to flat after 2 days of stand-by mode plus 15-20 minutes of talking. One of my intentions was to use the phone as a pocket e-book reader, but as I see reading at "bright" highlight level discharges the battery completely very quickly.
Strangely enough to me, the phone is losing datetime settings when the battery runs flat, so unless you charge it regularly you'll have to reset system time over...

Review of ToshibaPortege G710
Advantages: QWERTY keyboard, fingerprint security, bluetooth. wi-fi, windows mobile 6 Disadvantages: Costly, considerably large
...Toshiba are not renowned for their mobile phones, but more for their innovations in other technological areas. The ToshibaPortege G900 is one of a small minority of Toshiba mobile phones, and one of an even smaller minority of personal horizontal slider phones.
Loaded with mobile technology the ToshibaPortege G900 comes with an innovative fingerprint sensor and a full QWERTY Keyboard. The QWERTY keypad is very easy to use making the use of e-mail more efficient.
Being one of the first mobile phones to include Windows mobile 6 , you can read and reply to e-mails as soon as they arrive at your INBOX, you can organize your calendar and make use of the integrated and popular Microsoft Office applications. Other benefits of this phone are that it consists of a generously large 3" screen, two cameras (one for video calling as this...

Review of ToshibaPortege G900
Advantages: Finger print recognition, GPS functionality, video calling Disadvantages: High price, average features.
...The ToshibaPortege G500 was one of two smart phones released in the second quarter of 2007. However, with the introduction of Microsoft's new mobile operating system (Windows Mobile 6), Toshiba decided not to integrate the new system within the ToshibaPortege G500. Instead they went with the older Windows mobile 5 operating system. A wise choice?
This phone like the ToshibaPortege G900 has fingerprint recognition, which is a security bonus for all users who like to keep their personal files private and confidential. Also with the new finger print technology you can program the G500 to respond to different finger prints, giving you the option to create short cuts with each unique and individual finger print.
Windows mobile 5.0 as it is known, makes the G500 seem more like a portable PC than a mobile phone. Like many new smart...

Review of ToshibaPortégé G500
...I bought my first (and still only) laptop, ToshibaPortegeR100, four years ago. Yes, I went completely mad and spent Ł1800 for a laptop with small screen (12.1"), poor resolution (1024x768), slow CPU (900MHz), just a bit of RAM (256MB DDR), tiny HDD (30GB) and no internal optic drive.
OK, it didn't sound as miserable back then as it sounds right now. I just wanted ultra portable laptop. And I got it. It weight only 1.1kg, and is only 2cm thick. Has most necessary (and couple unnecessary) bits build in, like: network card, wireless network card, modem, mono input (3.5mm), stereo output (3.5mm), two USB2.0, 15 pin VGA output, PCIMCIA II slot, SD memory card reader, docking/port replicator connection, second RAM slot for memory upgrade (up to 1256MB).
Toshiba added also second, high capacity battery (connected via port replicator...
Advantages: Ease of use, memory capacity Disadvantages: Quality, feel, value for money
...The Toshiba Satellite L500 is the same as most other toshiba laptops. It looks stylish and can do all the basic functions that you would want for a laptop. However, when you use it, you dont feel very comfortable because it feels very cheap. The keyboard is very flimsy and feels like it is about to break every time you type something and the mouse pad and buttons do not respond well. However, the number pad on the right hand side of the keyboard is great as it makes it so easy to type numbers. You can buy this laptop with a range of processors and sizes of harddrive so you can choose the one which suits you best. The display is actually very good but the battery life could have been improved. On my model it will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours on its lowest power setting.
Overall, this laptop is reasonable at most things but not...
Advantages: very slim, very light, 3 year guarantee, long battery life Disadvantages: Pricey (average specifications for a very high price)
...The PortegeR500 is a new range of ultra-thin laptops by Toshiba. This laptop consists of a 12" (30 cm) wide screen display with an integrated optical drive. With the addition of the optical drive Toshiba's R500 range have become the thinnest laptops in the world which feature 7mm super-slim DVD SuperMulti drives.
The ToshibaPortegeR500-100 is one of many new Toshiba laptops that weigh just under 1 kilogram (0.98 kg to be exact). You will get an all day battery life, all day battery life meaning up to 8 hours depending on what you do on the laptop. For example. If you play the next generation of video games, then obviously a lot of processing power is required, which most definitely requires a large amount of electrical energy in a fairly small period of time.
With this laptop you have a Toshiba standard guarantee of 3 years...

Review of ToshibaPortegeR500
Advantages: Fast on a small OS, very light and small, has a good LCD screen, comes with essential bits Disadvantages: Can be slow on Win 2K, has limited RAM, one USB 1.1 port on laptop, can get hot,
...I was given this laptop by a friend for free. In my opinion, this laptop would be brilliant as a netbook. It is really small and lightweight, and with the correct operating system it can be very fast. I also want to comment on how durable the laptop is. I have spilt 2 glasses of Coke onto the keyboard and parts of the laptop and it has come through smiling. I was really impressed. Another thing that is good about the laptop is that Toshiba decided to include the Port Replicator for free. The port replicator adds more USB ports, an ethernet port and a few others.
The downside to this laptop is mainly the RAM. The laptop comes with 64Mb of RAM which can be upgraded with 32Mb, 64Mb and 128Mb modules. The problem with these RAM chips is that they are VERY expensive. Ł50 or $70 for the 128Mb module!!!
The laptop can also get quite hot...
Advantages: Light, looks great, dependable Disadvantages: Not for heavy applications
...An odd title for a review, I know, but this is a fairly odd laptop- as far as I'm concerned at least- mainly because I actually *like* it and haven't got tired of carrying it around.
COST
Around Ł1200 all in all, included Windows XP, with service pack 2 plus lots of Toshiba software, most of which isn't really required.
DESIGN
The laptop in question is the ToshibaPortegeR200. When you take it out of the box, the first thing you will notice is the attractive, sleek silver look to it. It certainly looks the part for anyone wanting to take their laptop to a conference and hoping to make a good impression with a worthwhile machine. It has a nice silver, ultra-slim design and certainly looks the part. Although compact, the keyboard is easy to use (as eas to use as any other laptop keyboard, anyway).
WEIGHT
The second...
