Portege 3110CT and Microsoft XP
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  Portege3110CT

Advantages: Small, Light and runs Windows XP
Disadvantages: Under powered and runs hot

...The Notebook is SMALL and LIGHT that's it main features. 25.7cm x 21.8cm and only 1.4kg. The processor runs at 300Mhz and the device will probably come with a 6GB HD. The Laptop runs hot and the fan never really stops. The standard package comes with 64MB of memory and can be upgraded to 192MB. I have a 128MB upgrade chip installed, bringing it up to 192MB. Treat yourself and upgrade your memory. The original OS was WIN98. I upgrade my Protégé 3110CT to run Window XP pro. If you do upgrade then make sure you have the latest drivers for the external CD-ROM and remove the extra memory before the upgrade. As I remember, at some point it failed because it couldn't address the extra memory. With XP loaded reinstall the extra memory and the system will discover it. The system can be upgraded using the floppy disk drive... Read review

Portege 3110CT - Lovely Little Mover
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  martinpw

Advantages: Very small, and light
Disadvantages: Not really

...A PII-300 smaller than an A4 sheet of paper, just over 2cm thick, and weighing as much as a bag of sugar! If it was ugly as sin you'd forgive it - but it looks darn fine too! The 300 Mhz processor is plenty powerful enough to crunch everday tasks - and it's just as capable running Word, Dreamweaver or web surfing. The 6GB hard disk, and 64Mb memory complement appropriately. The 10.4" TFT screen is plenty big enough for most work at 800x600, and clear and bright. The keyboard doesn't hinder my reasonable typing speed either. The 'nipple' mouse pointer is plenty responsive, and despite not having used such a pointer before I was soon comfortable. Battery life is well above average, giving 2 to 3 hours depending on levels of disk access / modem use. Toshiba's proprietory power saving software squeezes battery life to your own... Read review

Roadworthy Portege 7220CTe
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  stephbu

Advantages: Size, Performance, Display
Disadvantages: No internal CD.

...As someone else has already pointed out, most laptops are bought as corporate machines, but since I spend most of my life tied to one - I think the Portege is worthy of an opinion. I travel very long distances, sometimes by train, sometimes by plane. Often away from the office environment all bar a dodgy modem line. I'm quite lucky to be able to choose my work laptop. Dells are prefered by the company. I chosen the Toshiba above the others because it fits in with my lifestyle... And here's why... Design, Weight and Size - When I travel by plane, I need to use my laptop, however restrictions on luggage size often mean that space is a real premium in my bag. Robustness is critical where items get bounced around in car boots, or on planes. Ideally I need a package that is as small and light as possible, and yet could offer... Read review

Portege 4010
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  PhillWorboys

Advantages: Ultra light weight
Disadvantages: Does not come with floppy drive

...I purchase a lot of laptops for the company I work for and we tend to stick with Toshiba. Why? Because they offer excellent build quality and reliability not to mention the speed of repairs etc. A director wanted a light laptop as he travels a lot. I recommended the Portege 4010 and tool delivery of it this morning. It is a very sleek silver design. The keyboard area is black. The unit I brought is the following specification. Pentium III 933 Mobile processor, 256Mb RAM, 30Gb Hard disk, 12.1" TFT screen, internal 10/100 network and 56K modem, WiFi, 2 x USB and internal DVD drive. I brought it from Action.com for £1644.99. The floppy drive is a further £53.99. The laptop is extremely light weighing in at 1.7Kg. The power adapter is also light weight. To reduce the weight even further, you can remove the DVD drive... Small but perfectly formed
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  harv

Advantages: Small, powerful sub-notebook with all the features you'll need.
Disadvantages: Can get hot when used for long periods

...I bought a Toshiba Portege 3110 about six months ago due to it winning the PC Magazine sub-Notebook award. One of the main reasons I bought was its size and weight - this is a tiny machine and weighs in at a little over 1Kg. It is ideal if you want a machine to use whilst commuting, since you won't need to visit the chiropractor after carrying it around for a week, unlike most laptops. However, if you want a desktop replacement, look elsewhere. As well as it weighing very little, it has a decent sized TFT screen; is powerful enough for me to develop web applications on; and has an exceptional battery life for a small machine (3 hours). It can get a little warm after being on for a couple of hours, but in the winter that warms my legs quite nicely. It comes with PII-300 processor, 4.5Gb hard-disk, internal 56K modem, 1 x PC Card... The Corporates Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  Mcsm

Advantages: Not perfect but good keyboard and build quality
Disadvantages: Extra to pay for CD rom

...section of the case as well. Consequently, the screen shouldn't get broken while you are travelling, and the inflexible case ought to protect internal components and delicate electrical connections against the continual stresses of handling and transport. There isn't enough room in the compact 1.4kg case for anything other than the hard disk - which is removable for easy repair or upgrading - so as usual the floppy drive is external. It connects via the notebook's USB port, but the Portege is supplied as standard with a small, 300g port replicator which has essentials on it that are missing from the machine itself, like parallel and serial interfaces, and it also sports an integrated 10/100 Ethernet adapter, making it potentially quite a useful piece of kit. The designers have managed to squeeze a pair of Type II PC Cards into the Portege... Read review

One machine...to rule them all!
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  yoharry

Advantages: Size, weight, design
Disadvantages: Battery life

...Being students, my brother and I each recently purchased this specific laptop computer. Basically, the little beast is amazing! It’s compact size and looks but additionally its very full specification made it the ideal laptop for us both. It easily and discretely fits into bags separating it from many other of the bulky average laptops. As a result of its size, the machine is pretty light making it an overall winner. Its basic specification is as follows: Display - 10.4" TFT Hard Disk – 6GB Memory – 64MB Processor – Pentium II, 300MHz Modem - Inbuilt 56K Ports - Serial, Parallel, PS/2, Serial, Parallel, PS/2 Battery Li-ion AC Adapter world wide auto sensing AC I have installed the necessary software and files on to it, and the 300MHz processor easily copes with my student demands. In addition to this, the 6GB hard disk... Read review

The best things come in small packages
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  milwayj

Advantages: Compact, Quick, Looks good
Disadvantages: Needs many add ons which can be annoying

...The Toshiba Portege laptop is the best I have ever used, as it is quite different form the usual bulky, sluggish laptops I have used in the past. The main purpose of laptops is to be fast, easy to use, easy to transport and be efficient. This laptop is all of these, I found the keyboard good and the roller point mouse is very effective once you get used to it. In a year of owning it I think it only crashed once and it handled multitaksing with ease. Even though it is considerably smaller than other laptops the screen is still a good size and was not in any way a disadvantage. The battery also seemed to last for a great deal longer than other laptops I have used. The main problem associated with it is the fact that it needs external floppy drives, CD/DVD drives, network/Lan connection cables etc ec which means that some... Read review

Not a technical opinion
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  vala

Advantages: Size and weight
Disadvantages: Possibly the external bits

...This is an opinion for people who, like me, have read other opinions on computers and thought "huh?". Why we wanted a laptop:- We live in a one-bedroom flat so there is no room for a desk top plus work station. I wanted something I could type documents on and my husband wanted something on which he could produce presentations. The other essentials were CD Rom and internet access. The one we chose:- A Portege 3110 from eBay at a cost of £250. My bid was accepted on Wednesday and the laptop arrived very well packaged on Saturday. The Portege really is compact. When I took the packaging and accessories out of the carrying case, I thought the seller had forgotten to put in the laptop as it was hidden in a corner. It is smaller than an A4 sheet of paper and about 2 cms thick. What we think of it:- It has a few scuff... Read review

Toshiba R100 - very small laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R100 - Pentium M 900 MHz - 12.1" TFT by  koobra

Advantages: Size
Disadvantages: Spec

...I bought my first (and still only) laptop, Toshiba Portege R100, four years ago. Yes, I went completely mad and spent £1800 for a laptop with small screen (12.1"), poor resolution (1024x768), slow CPU (900MHz), just a bit of RAM (256MB DDR), tiny HDD (30GB) and no internal optic drive. OK, it didn't sound as miserable back then as it sounds right now. I just wanted ultra portable laptop. And I got it. It weight only 1.1kg, and is only 2cm thick. Has most necessary (and couple unnecessary) bits build in, like: network card, wireless network card, modem, mono input (3.5mm), stereo output (3.5mm), two USB2.0, 15 pin VGA output, PCIMCIA II slot, SD memory card reader, docking/port replicator connection, second RAM slot for memory upgrade (up to 1256MB). Toshiba added also second, high capacity battery (connected via port replicator... Read review
