Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.

My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. He'd used it continuously for about a year and it was showing its flaws but after a bit of tweaking it's been a dream, and believe me I'm no light user either! Mostly I use it to develop software (Visual Studio 2005, C#, .NET) and have it weighted down with SDK's. ...INFO I have been involved with Toshiba laptops for a few years now. First in having one as a work laptop and secondly supporting them for other users. Toshiba have the ability to create a laptop that is rugged enough to withstand daily use whilst being designed well enough to fit the daily use it was intended for. The Portege R200 is no exception and is an exceptional laptop for the business traveller. Once given the go ahead to buy a couple of these I couldn't wait to ditch the Dell equivalents. COST I managed to secure 2 R200 laptops for a mere £1234 each excluding VAT from Inmac. I have however seen one on EBAY last week for £994. Now that's cheap. FIRST THOUGHTS When the first R200 arrived I couldn't believe the size of the box. It's so small you would think it had a couple of paperback novels in it and not a PC... Read review

...This really is what it says it is - Toshiba, the mark of quality and reliability, and Portege, meaning it is portable. The Toshiba Portege is an excellent laptop. My Experience When I first got this on order from amazon.co.uk, I looked at the box and thought 'jees its huge!' After stripping down the 100's of layers of wrapping and cardboard on the laptop, I finally got to it. It is very petite in real life, yet a good weight at 2.1 kg - not too heavy but not too light, about the weight of a little over 2 bags of sugar. It's 29.5 cm wide, 24.9 cm high and 3.9cm deep. Very easy to just stick in your backpack if you need it for a school or work project. Using it is a pleasurable experience! It is excellent to use with either the touch pad or stylus. ...I bought my laptop in march for £1,300 and it is fantastic, it is a lot better than the previous Toshiba laptop I purchased which was also very good. I am yet to find a fault with Toshiba's products and service. I damaged my old laptop twice and both imes my warranty dealt with it brilliantly. In my opinion they are second only to Sony. Weight and size are very important to me, so this is ideal. The battery is great it lasts me 5 to six hours depending on the task, which is a lot better than any laptop I've had before. The wireless LAN is also very good, easy to set up and works a charm. The touch pad has a few little problems as it has too many functions, e.g. certain parts of it will send you back to the last internet page and other parts will scroll a page when you just want to move the cursor. Yes, I went completely mad and spent £1800 for a laptop with small screen (12.1"), poor resolution (1024x768), slow CPU (900MHz), just a bit of RAM (256MB DDR), tiny HDD (30GB) and no internal optic drive. OK, it didn't sound as miserable back then as it sounds right now. I just wanted ultra portable laptop. And I got it. It weight only 1.1kg, and is only 2cm thick. Has most necessary (and couple unnecessary) bits build in, like: network card, wireless network card, modem, mono input (3.5mm), stereo output (3.5mm), two USB2.0, 15 pin VGA output, PCIMCIA II slot, SD memory card reader, docking/port replicator connection, second RAM slot for memory upgrade (up to 1256MB). ...I bought my 3490CT on eBay UK back in January this year. It was a second hand model which came without an OS. I know that it comes with a license for Microsoft Windows 2000. I used Windows XP Home on mine. From the moment I turned it on I have loved this little machine. It has great features. I have found it to have just the adequate speed for portable computing needs. I do still find the need to have a main fast desktop computer at home. This in my case is because I do a lot of work in HTML and Flash. If you do not require a extremely fast machine which you will use for very basic Windows tasks and a machine which looks good, is tiny and light this should be one of the contenders in your buying list.
